2. WHO?
• The youngest authenticated British soldier in World
War I was the twelve year old Sidney Lewis.
3. WHAT?
• Ran away to join up fought on the front line in the
First World War until his mother sent his birth
certificate to the War Office and pleaded that he
should be sent home.
4. WHEN?
• Enlisted with the East Surrey Regiment in August
1915, five months after his 12th birthday, and was
fighting on the Somme by the age of 13.
7. HOW?
• People thought he was 18 years old, but he was
12…

He lived in times in which there
were lots of wars and complicated
situations.
My life is clearily easier because of
the world situation.
9. WOULD YOU HAVE DONE WHAT HE
DID?
• There wouldn’t be any other option for me, I would
be totally scared and sad but at the end thankful to
my mom because she took me from war…
• I wouldn’t be mentally prepared for going to the
war at the age of 12…if I had to go, I would wait till I
am older…but only if it was really necessary
because I don’t like it.
10. CONCLUSION
• We think that soldiers should have took care about
the people the chose for war. Sidney was very
young; sometimes for patriotism people do things
hey shouldn’t.
