Activity A3

The main character of the book “Night” is Elie Wiesel. He is a Jewish teenager

who has to live through the Holocaust. He has to go through some things in his teenage

years that some people don’t experience their whole life! If you thought going through

some of the dramatic events Elie went through such as seeing a son kill his father for

food, that he would have a completely different attitude and outlook on life. Well, he did.

He started to have a different approach on life and even dropped his religion. Elietook

nothing for granted and did everything he could to keep him and his father alive. I don’t

think my friends appreciate how easy they have it. My friends’ biggest struggles are

school and girls, none of which kill you. I’m sure Elie would much rather spend 8 hours

in school a day then live in a concentration camp. My friends come home from school

“exhausted” so they grab some food and watch television on the 50 inch television.

Elieworks all day and gets a rations of soup and bread. Also, Elie cares deeply about

his father and would do anything to keep him safe and alive where as some of my

friends “can’t stand their parents.” I know that on the inside my friends love their parents

and probably as much as Elie loves his. One thing about my friends is they all have big

dreams. They all want to be a professional athlete but who doesn’t want to be famous?

Elie on the other hand kind of lost hope and really only lives because he is with his

father. Other than his father, he really doesn’t have much to live for.Elie has

unbelievable strength, mentally and physically. I know people that hurt themselves and

even commit suicide because they get bullied. It could have such an easy exit for Elie to

commit suicide. He could have escaped from all the horror. He could have but didn’t. He
found a little faith in the Allied Army to help him escape and it paid off. So many of my

friends would’ve quit or crumbled under the torcher and tragic events. I think one of the

most distinct differences in Elie and my friends are core values. Elie tries his best at

everything to keep him and his father alive. Some people I know are disrespectful and

unlawful.
