A few words about his life:
Nikolaos Pashalidis is Research Supervisor for Technological Development in the department
of Solar Physics at NASA. He comes from Makedonia. He was born February 7th
1963 in
Akritochori, Serres. In 1985, he graduated from the department of Electrical Engineering and
Computer Mechanics of the University of Thrace in Xanthi where he completed his PHD in
1992.
A few words about his work:
Nikolaos Pashalidis pioneered in the creation of advanced technology, microsystems and
instruments that were used in space missions. The space craft Cassini, for about 20 years has
been collecting data for the study of Saturn and his natural differentiations. Big part of his
career is focused on the “micro” with the purpose to explore the big unknown. He has
worked on the development of microscopical instruments on numerous reading instruments
from precision clocks to thermometers. He created computer chips in the “heart” of
instruments that are called ASICs. The most well-known ASIC that he created is the one for
flight time. It is a system on a clip that measures time in 1/3.000.000.000 of the second.
