The Success Of A College Student
President Obama was once quoted saying, "By the end of this decade two in three job openings will require some higher education. Two in three.
And yet, we still live in a country where too many Americans are priced out of the education they need." which is a pretty depressing statement to
hear from our commander in chief regarding the future of the people. America is known for being the land of opportunity where typically the
favored goal of the people is acquiring wealth for a better lifestyle and future. Growing up as a kid I was always told by my teachers and parents that
higher education after high school is extremely necessary; this same expectation goes for the whole country as there is clearly emphasis on getting a
college degree in order to be successful. Although college may not be for everyone, there are those who would really like to gain acceptance to an
institution, but cannot because they do not have the money to do so. The rise in cost to be a college student has become too expensive for a country
that encourages, and emphasizes higher education. Tuition and fees, loans, and extra expenses become a big price to pay for wanting to play the
proper role in society as a student looking for a better future. Today's college students have to deal with a huge financial decision at a very young age
that leads to frustration and confusion which is caused by the inflating prices of college tuition. As decades have passed, it is clear that the cost of

Stress For College Students
Introduction "I will be so glad when this semester is over because school is stressing me to the max." This is a quote that quite a few college
students are familiar with and have probably said themselves. College can be a fun but also stressful time for students. They are focused on making
sure they attend class and get passing grades so they can be successful and hopefully succeed in the next chapter of their life. Researchers at Columbia
University and the University of San Diego conducted a study conducted a study to determine how stress negatively affects academic performance and
enrollment. They were surprised by the nearly 25% of students polled in the National College Health Assessment that said they experienced poor
grades or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article students also reported the cramped housing and lack of healthy food choices caused stress as well. (College Student Report Stress Affects
Academic Performance, 2011). The next source used for the paper was an article that came from New York University and it gave the key facts when
it comes to college student experiencing stress. Some of the key facts included college student reporting being more stressed out than ever before and
stress being the number one impediment to academic performance and 55% of students, nationally claimed their biggest stressor to be academic in
nature. (Stress, 2009). A survey at Villanova University was conducted for the article and the results of the survey included 70% of undergraduates
experienced stress. Also for one–fourth respondents, stress adversely affected academic performance (Top Impediments to Academic Success) (n.d.).
The purpose of this study is to show how college student stress levels can impact their academic achievement in a negative way. The relevance this
could have to social work is that it could show how high levels of stress can negatively impact college student's academic performance. The
information found in this study could show social workers that too much stress can be bad especially if a student comes to them asking for help

Stress on College Students
Recently, many first–year college students face to stress. Stress is come from different ways. From The Associated Press and MTV conducted a
survey of college students, 74% of students feel stress about grades,67% of students feel stress about financial worries, 54% of students feel stress
about their families and 53% of students feel stress about relationships(The Associated Press and MTV,2009). In the following, I would like to discuss
what cause, effect and prevention of college stress.
The cause of stress is divided to three parts. They are academic performance pressure, financial problem and family. The most important cause is
academic performance pressure. In your college life, you have many works, such as attending classes, completing the readings, writing papers,
managing projects and preparing for exam. For freshman, it may constitute stress. In addition, some freshman don't know what happen when starting
college, some students don't know how to distribute their time to finish their project or assignment. Moreover, so many test and exam need to do
revision, students who study all through the night because they worry they can't get a content marks. Also, students who want get higher score and
GPA to get scholarship, so the competition for earning top marks can be very fierce(White, 2010). "College life has become a lot more competitive, it's
much harder to get into schools, it is gotten a lot more expensive." Say Elizabeth Scott, stress management expert. If you

Being A College Student
Being a college student comes with some challenges and some of the challenges are trying to keep up with all the assignments, trying to live away
from home and the biggest challenge is being financially prepared for college. Being a freshman in college requires a lot of money and when it
comes to paying for tuition, textbooks and other college expense, most students are not prepared on how the money should be spent properly. There
are college students who live away from home and that increases the amount of money they have to spent to continue going to college. A big part of
being a college student is spending money to help with their education because in college nothing is free and everything needs to be bought and succeed
in college. In the reading "The reason college costs more than you think" written by Jon Marcus, the author goes over how many students are not
financially ready for college and don't know about the different circumstances that can occur that could increase the money needed to continue with
school.
The main reason why money is a big problem for college students is having a strict budget that can be used. Money is a common problem for every
student because of their perspective on what are the spending priority. Most students only prepare to go to college for only four years and the author
Jon Marcus explains, it is because it is an idea that everyone should graduate in four years, parents believe four years of college it the norm to graduate
and finally

College Student Athlete
"When you invest your time, you make a goal and a decision of something that you want to accomplish. Whether it's make good grades in school, be
a good athlete, be a good person, go down and do some community service and help somebody who's in need, whatever it is you choose to do, you're
investing your time in that" (Nick Saban). Athletes .Being a student athlete in college increases your chances of success in college by getting constant
pressure from the coaches to get good grades, receiving a full scholarship helps the athlete not have any debt after he or she graduates also playing
sports helps one build social network.
The pressure the coaches put on their players has a positive reflection on their grades. Coaches will push and nag for their student athletes to go to
tutorials, get to know your professor, and even sit in the front so the teacher can know you are serious about your education. The graduation rate for
student athletes is much higher than regular students. "More student athletes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Student athletes on full scholarship receive free tuition and fees, free room and board at a institution of higher learning. "To avoid student debt, use
academic and athletic excellence to land gift–aid scholarships that leave you free and clear after graduation" (College Scholarship.org). I attend a
private institution on full scholarship. It cost 36,000 dollars a year just to attend this school, if I didn't land a full scholarship to go here I would
probably end up at Texas Southern like my mom, aunts and uncles did. Everything is paid for so after I graduate I won't have any debt or loans to
pay back once I graduate. A scholarship is not always going to cover the full bill of college. Some colleges don't give full scholarships because the
school itself don't have that much money or it's too small. But it can cover a good portion of

Passion for College Students
Passion – College Students for Their Schools College students traditionally show pride towards their respective school. What makes students so
enthusiastic for their school? In Laura Randall's "Things You Only Do in College" and David Berreby's "It Takes a Tribe" both writers explore college
culture but come up with decidedly different results. Randall argues that college students' traditions are embarrassing to the university, and students
should be focusing on schoolwork not traditions; but Berreby suggests traditions are for the pride which students have for their school. In this essay I
argue that students are passionate for their school, and the traditions they participate in are for the pride they have for the school. Randall ... Show more

In this quote he is saying there are many students who apply to colleges for name recognition. However, when they get to the university or college they
will participate in the traditions. Not every student at Penn State knows the fight song or the alma mater. However, when they go to a football game
or any other sporting event they will be standing proudly singing that same fight song or alma mater. Berreby states that "They'll learn contempt
for that rival university, Oklahoma to their Texas, Sacramento State to their U.C. Davis, Annapolis to their West Point" (Berreby, 207). This quote
is saying the students will also learn who the rival university is, and they will build a hatred for them, and root against them every chance they get.
He also talks about some of the bigger rivalries between colleges. Oklahoma and Texas have been rivals for years, but in the public eye society
view this rivalry for sports. No one thinks about whose graduates succeed more after college. Society's views on rivalries deal with sports, and
college students live off their sports teams. If the teams do well then the campus is always more lively, but if the teams lose there is a down feeling all
throughout the campus. For example, before Penn State played Michigan in football this year there was a huge anticipation for the game. Most of my

Why Students To Hire Students In College
There are so many students who say they are hardworking and can handle the pressure from a solid college workload. However too many times
these students fall behind in their studies and though they probably don't mean to end up just trying to "survive" their classes. This is exactly what
professors fear though they have no reason to with me. I always put my best foot forward and have had more than enough experience winning the
fight against stress. When you look for students to hire I am sure you are looking for ambitious individuals with a knack for learning. If so then you
don't need to look any further considering I am both of those things. However I am not overconfident when it comes to learning considering I don't
know everything. I

College Student Obstacles
My Obstacles as a College Student There are many Obstacles in my life as a college student, and I hadn't prepared myself to get through all of them.
Many obstacles lead back to money and not having enough to get to the stable and secure career in the future. My main obstacles are: money,
procrastinating, fear, and being unsure of what I want to do. Money is an obstacle that many people face not only in college, but in daily life. This
semester I had to pay for half of my tuition, and that was difficult to do with two low pay retail jobs. I was also lucky enough to have a friend who had
all but one of the books I needed, and she was happy to lend them out to me. She saved me about 400 dollars, 400 dollars that I didn't have to begin ...

College Partying And College Students
Have you ever wondered why college students party? In the past, I've heard people's reasoning to go to college. Some of those reasons aren't for
bettering themselves. Some people want to go to college specifically for the college partying experience. What makes a high school student want to
experience a college party? There's thrills, sex, socialization, and a nothing can touch me mind set. I started thinking sociologically when I realized a
lot of college students are effected by college parties due to alcohol abuse. The majority of college students party. At these parties there is always
alcohol of some nature. Some students may have come from a home that was strict. This can cause students to act out when they get to college because
they don't have parents constantly monitoring their behavior. Talking to several friends who party on a weekly basis tell me their parents would be
anger with them if they knew what they were doing. This type of behavior was punishable at their houses.
Students also rebel because they have helicopter parents. According to 7 Tips for Dealing with Your Helicopter Parents While in College, "Some
college students rebel against the helicopter parents by partying. While they are partying, and drinking, they don't feel guilty ignoring their parents calls
or texts" (Sazegar). There are many different articles and tips on the internet dealing with this issue. This can happen more frequent than not. Some
students may feel smothered or pressured by

Overvolved College Students
Life of an over–involved college student
"30 percent of freshmen entering college last autumn reported feeling stressed" (Higher Education Research Institute at the UCLA.) A pre–med college
student who is over–involved in the college life may deal with a lot of challenges. Some of the challenges an over–involved college student may
experience the feeling of being greatly overwhelmed, not having enough time for school work, friends or college clubs. This type of student may not
have a good balance of everything. They could become more stressed and sleep deprived which would greatly affect their health. Being extremely
stressed out could cause them to get sick, get less sleep, or obtain unhealthy eating habits. The biggest challenge for over–involved pre–med students
face is stress. There are so many possible stressors they could run into. Some examples of these stressors are worrying about their future career, not
having a good life balance, procrastinating, participating in more than they can handle, or something as simple has tomorrow's Chemistry test. There
are so many possible situations that could go wrong that they even begin to stress out over the amount of stressing they are doing. As many people
already know putting too much stress on yourself has many major negative effects on your health. Stress could affect someone physically, mentally, or
behaviorally. A few physical effects are headaches, muscle tension, fatigue, and lack of sleep. A few

Student Loan System For College Students
Student Loan System Throughout the ages, society has evolved to overcome the challenges it faces from one generation to the next, by learning and
advancing further than the previous ones. It has undergone a vast number of changes; however, mankind has never undermined the importance and
necessity of a complex and well–educated society. Moreover, it is the duty of each one of us to make sure that the next generation takes a step further
than the previous one. With this in mind, society has understood the importance of higher education for the future. Yet, the hesitation we witness today
to pursue a degree is due to the high cost of student loans. Truly this is a terrifying thing which cannot be ignored, as it has a direct impact on the ...

In the first place, the interest rates have been rigged to increase dramatically in a very short period of time. The interest on the student loans has
increased substantially resulting in huge debts for the outgoing graduate. These rates have skyrocketed, "The average student loan debt was $18,550 in
2004; this figure has doubled over the decade and now represents a 56% increase" compared to the previous decade and we are fully aware that
paying off such a debt would take a lifetime and is very difficult (End The Debt). This has begun giving graduate students the feeling of a never–ending
debt. Due to this, there are a huge number of high–school students who are re–considering a college degree, even though they are fully aware of the
necessity of qualification for many jobs.
An interesting fact is how the student loan system has made a conscious effort to incorporate international students to finance their full–time MBA
degrees. An example of this would be, "The Simon Business School at the University of Rochester in New York is offering a student loan program, with
student loans ranging from $1,000 to the full cost of tuition" this is a very useful benefit to international students (Other News).
However, it has become extremely complicated for Muslim students to even access these student loans as "Muslim students cannot claim a student loan
mainly due to their religious belief that prevent them from

Access To College Students
In this day and age, technology takes center stage. Temple College students understand this well, considering nearly all school assignments require
access to a computer and the internet. This need for technology prompts a vast majority of students to take advantage of the computers provided by the
school. However, these students are forced to maneuver around blocked websites and other internet restrictions put in place by T.C. Temple College
students should have access to all websites when they are using T.C. computers on the grounds that students are mature, they are paying for access, and
restricted access to the internet limits students resources. College students are mature enough to have access to the full, uncensored internet. Society
expects young adults, more specifically college students, to manage their own lives and time. If they fail to do so, it is their own fault. If they choose
to slack off and browse the internet instead of writing a paper, then they have no one to blame but themselves. Althoughschool administrators mean

When college students pay tuition, they are paying not only for their classes, but for the resources that the school offers; this includes access to school
libraries, tutors, and, yes, school computers. By limiting students access to school computers, school administrators are essentially ripping college
students off. Many would counter this statement with claims that colleges have the right to block any website that they desire to, and this is correct,
however, by including the cost of these resources in with the cost of tuition, college officials are not being reasonable. Students pay a full price for
this tool, but colleges come up short in the delivery, ultimately providing students with a below par service; no matter how you try to phrase this,
unknowingly paying to be limited is simply

Many students do not take advantage of all their opportunities to be financially stable in college. Students spend money on unimportant things like road

Educational shaming is when society looks down on you if you decide to take a route in life that does not involve college, or does not involve a 4
year degree or higher. It has also come to a point in this society, if you do not go to college right after high school and do not graduate within 4
years you are looked down upon by employers. We put a college degree over productive work career. When employers should start looking to see if
you are eligible for a laboring job (and other careers that do not need schooling) by your learning potential, motivation, integrity, and mental ability
instead of a piece of paper that tells your education and job experience. "We are setting up future generations for disaster if we don't help make a
change. We are starting to believe that the American Dream is all about a white collard job and a college degree." (Ted Talks, Dusty Wunderlich)
By 2020, 19 million more college graduates will enter the workforce but only 7 million of those require a degree. (Ted Talks) Since every person is
different not everyone will be ready for college at 18 and not every student will have the fast learning ability or money to graduate in 4 years.

College Stress Are college students under stress? Wait, what is stress? Stress is considered a mental or emotional strain or tension that comes from very
demanding circumstances. School, relationship, family, finances and job related stress are examples of some of the stressors that college students
commonly face. According to author Micheal F. Shaughnessy, one of the biggest stressors for college students is school related. The transition for a
freshman student moving away from home for the first time can be stressful especially if it is their first time away from home or if they move to
another state where they do not know anyone. Student may have trouble managing school, work and managing

Rob Geis, a current college student, explains, "A student is not at fault for unwanted weight gain. It is the college meal plans that cause the gain in
weight. Many colleges require incoming freshmen to be on a meal plan" (Geis). Parents like the meal plans because they know their child is getting
meals every day, but the plan does have its downsides. Geis believes that many students do not eat three meals every day. "If we don't eat every meal
we are given, we are wasting our money which was used to buy the meal plan. So, it is either gain weight or waste money" (Geis). This may cause the
family of the student to get upset. The parents may reduce the student's meal plan for the next year, which would make the student eat less. ... Show

A family sending a student to college may expect good grades from the student. If a student's grade is going down, a family might check up on the
student. When the family checks on the student, the family may find something wrong with the child. The family will try and help, but the student
may refuse, thinking that he or she is fine. This could cause embarrassment in the student and make his or her situation worse. There are many ways to
stay healthy on campus. To begin with, the American CollegeHealth and Association states that "The top five threats to academic performance are
stress; a cold, flu or sore throat; sleep difficulties; concerns for friends or family; and depression" (qtd. in Dineley). When a student's grade drops
from any of the five threats, his or her future can be affected. A student's career can depend on his or her grades and health. Dineley tells the first
way to stay healthy is to get plenty of rest. Many students get too little of sleep, which causes illness ("College")". A student with an illness could
miss class. Besides missing class, a student will have less time to study and learn. The second way to stay healthy according to Dineley is to exercise
more often. However, many students do not have enough time to exercise; especially dealing with the stress of college ("College"). A student's top
priority might be his or her grades. If a student slacks on exercising, his or her physical health may deplete rapidly. Ultimately, a

Should College Students Be A College?
Have you ever thought about how difficult it is to go to college? As a current college student, my concern is about how difficult it is to attend college.
Students depend on many variables since most of them are dependent on their parents or on a job. There are many issues that college students have to
face in order to attain a college degree. In my opinion, there are three issues that are significantly critical to students face when they are planning to
attend college; Influence of Others, Location, Transportation, and the Students' Income. Students' being influenced by other people is a major concern.
Luckily, I had the choice to decide what I wanted to study and my parents are supporting me every day. In contrast, there are people who don't have the
same luck, and unfortunately they have to deal with their parents' ideology about what they should study. For example, Samuel, who is my best–friend
since I was five years old, has always wanted to be a professional video producer. However, his father always wanted him to be a dentist just like
him. When Samuel decided to tell his dad about his inspiration to be a video producer, his dad got disappointed and decided to no longer support
him in his persuasion of his dream career. Those being the circumstances, Samuel decided to do what his dad always wanted him to do, become a
dentist, because there was no possible way he could afford college tuition by himself. This was an example of my friend supporting the idea of how

First Generation College Students
Coming from a smaller town where a lot of families do not have the money to send themselves or even their children to college was tough, I was
always worried about what was going to happen after high school was over. Applying for financial aid and signing up for classes without having a
family member who has done it before is very difficult, the student don't know what classes to take or how much money to take out for loans, as a
first generation college student myself it has been hard to do all the paperwork for college. A first generation college student can be very stressed
like all college students but for first generation students they have no one that has gone through the same thing and that could help them get through
it. Financial issues are going to be stressful for every college student, but for first generation students it can get extremely difficult seen as they do
not know that much about applying for financial aid. Some students can get scholarships that help to pay for their college, though they do not know
how to apply for those scholarships sometimes.Students who are first generation do not get the advice of their parents on college, just like how they
do not know how to sign up for financial aid and other resources that are useful. Going to college as a first generation college student is a hard
experience to go through, students whose parents did not go to college have a disadvantage because they do not know how to adjust well to living at
college.

Challenges Of College Students
For first year students coming straight from high school, college life can either be very exciting or overwhelming depending on how well one prepares
for it. Some have the notion that college is fun and is all about partying, while some believe that it is an environment in which they can achieve the
ultimate freedom thus escape the stringent rules made by their parents at home. Others look forward to experiencing a different learning environment
while being exposed to different cultures and sharing different academic knowledge. Successful assimilation into college life is determined by the
student's capability to transform into the new role of a college student. Numerous students face challenges they have never experienced before which

Allocating more time towards having fun rather than focusing on schoolwork or studying in general also affects student's time management. Since
they have every opportunity of flexibility with minimal boundaries involved, there is the urge to enjoy the newfound liberty, and as a result, neglect
of assignments, deadlines bypassed and incompetent test results. For that reason, the commitment to study is only realized when exams are
approaching thereby causing panic to the student as the realization that class materials have not been covered starts to arise. Finally, the most difficult
challenge students face in college is a financial hardship. Many students come from various walks of life and sometimes determining one's financial
capability to offset college costs during the early stages of can be problematic. Some students come from well to do families who have a tremendous
capacity to pay full tuition without external assistance. These particular students do not require financial aid or scholarships, as they can meet the
institution's financial requirement regardless of what level in college they may fall under as the source of wealth is derived from the family or

Homeless College Students
Do you know the reason why so many college students in the United States are currently homeless? As of the moment there are thousands of college
students roaming around the streets, due to not having the necessary resources they need. Now days, it is common for a college student to be left
homeless, be evicted, thrown out their homes, or found living in a abandoned buildings which isn't suitable as a living environment. These students
don't have the available funds to be able to pay for somewhere to live in or know when their next meal will be. Every college student in order to be
successful needs a safe environment that they can call home and get there regular nutrients.
It is often said, that for a student to actually be able to excel in their studies. They must have a proper nutritional diet, a place to rest and work on their
studies. Yet, there is currently 14% of all college students living among the United States without a home. It is most commonly due to rent being so
expensive that students cannot simply afford. Which later leads to some of these students who are facing financial trouble to become homeless. Which
not only leaves the student without a home, but vulnerable to many other factors. For example, infection diseases, unsafe conditions, to even bad
weather which can all affect the health of a student. In today's society when people think about a homeless person they think they ask for money for the

Why College Students Are Not Success In College
Through the years in America, more students in each generation of college are being successful and finishing college. "The latest data show that just
40 percent of Americans have finished an associate's degree or above, while an additional 22 percent attend some college but failed to graduate"
(Kelly, p.1). The 22 percent of college students who are failing to graduate, could be the college students who are not being successful in college.
There are many reasons why students are not successful in college. Some main reasons students are not successful in college are typical because of
drugs, stress, time management and procrastination, lack of desire and persistence and also poor self–esteem and lack of self–confidence. One reason
why students are not successful in college is that of drugs. When students leave their homes to go off to college they meet new people, and experience
overjoy of new freedom. When students notice that they are experiencing new freedom, they try new and different things. One of the main things
students try that are new and different, depending on where the student is from, are drugs. Students use drugs for a lot of different reasons. Students
use drugs to cope with stress, try to maintain course load, and they are influenced by peer pressure. In college, drugs are taken too far once students
start to use them. "Those who are enrolled in a full–time college program are twice as likely to abuse drugs and alcohol than those who don't attend
college" (College students and Drug Abuse). The students who abuse drugs in college are the students that are normally not successful in college. The
drugs take over the mind and students become unfocused and behind in school work, which leads to students failing out of college. Another reason why
students are not successful in college is that of stress. Relationships, family issues and cost of tuition are stress–related factors that are dealt with a
college student. The America Institute of the street website says, "a 2008 mental health study by the Associated Press and mtvU eight in 10 college
students say they have experienced stress in their daily lives over the past three months" (Stress in College Students p. 1). The college that I

Coming Into College Students
Coming into college we all probably think we have note taking figured out because that's pretty much all you did back in high school. But you start to
notice after your first couple of weeks of class your falling behind on your notes because not use to the fast–pace of the professor. The first few things
you need to have to make sure you are ready to take good and effective notes are: a binder, pencil or pen, and a highlighter. Being prepared is the
first step on becoming an effective note taker. Which includes getting enough sleep before your class. Because staying out all late is not going to help
you in class; you won't be able to pay attention to what the professor is saying. When taking notes, you want to find a method that works for you.

Successful College Students
Many college students have struggle with school, work, and their personal life responsibilities. Once you become a college student there is a lot of
struggles. College students tend to demonstrate that no matter what they tried to manage their life. Also, you tried to do all things possible to accomplish
school ,and have have at least free days or times in their life. There is severals ways that successful students manage work, school, and their their
personal life. To begin with, one way how successful students manage work is by finding the appropriate time to work. An example is, I seen many
of my colleagues how most of them didn't make it to class or left early from class to go to work. Either today I haven't had an issue right now with
coming late to work. College students tend to have a higher expectation to go to work and make it on time. It's demonstrated that balancing work
depends on when you can work while going to school. Most of college students to be successful at school go to work right after all their classes are
done. Being in a rush to work they tried to get early to have more free time to even start on some assignments. Finding the appropriate time to work is
easy ,but when it comes to school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
College students have responsibilities at home too not only at work and school. Pretty much most of us have chores at home that we must do or
help out. At my house we have split chores ,but since I'm the oldest from siblings I have to do all the chores. It's difficult balancing my chores
when I have school ,and work. As soon I get home liked I said I do my assignments to not worry about them later at night before I do any chores.
Sometimes I don't do my responsibilities due to the fact I have a lot of school work. But at the end , I did all my chores and had even free time to

Motivation For The College Student
Once upon a time, in a somewhat happy place, there lived a young woman. She was freshly divorced and now wondering how she was going to be
all that she had hoped and dreamed of becoming. All her once future plans were now shattered and she felt broken. In this thunderstorm of a place,
there was a silver lining: her two, handsome princes. They were really her saviors and grounding force. The two princes became her motivation to
start over, create a new life, and start rediscovering herself.
For the college student, motivation is a personal aspiration with much hard work. The college writing student will focus on increasing writing abilities
and becoming a better writer by class end. With a deep–rooted motivation, the learning to write process will continue to be built and perfected over the
course of the student's time in school. For example, I feel that I can write well, yet there are areas that need improvement, like increased vocabulary
and decreased compound–complex sentences. Therefore with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be expanded and practiced, building
upon what I have already learned and observing new ways to apply my writing skills. My motivation is to accomplish greater polished writing skills
and more personal success in writing. Motivation is the driving force found in the heart and mind that makes goals and dreams happen.
There is a time I remember when vocabulary in writing was strongly encouraged and then I attended my first college class

Success In College Students
The greatest thing that college students can learn is the idea of success and what that can mean for a person. In Bernard Roth's novel "The
Achievement Habit, stop wishing, start doing and take control of your life" explains how such a word can be described in many different ways for
one person. Success can be defined by time management, having a positive mindset, and having a purpose. Many times, through Roth's book he
explains the many different decisions and ways you should start to change in your life to make you a better person. College students need to learn the
real definition of success and how it can impact the views they might have towards furthering their education for the better. I have struggled to
maintain success in my college career for example I never have time I fail and can't seem to get out of my own head but after Reading Roth's book I
guarantee it will give real definition of success will finally make students understand how success is defined. Through the rigorous definitions of these
describing words Roth finally shows the definition and is defined in these words time management, having a positive mindset, and having a purpose.
Time management is one of the three most important traits to have success in college, it helps to map out your schedule, prepare you for exams, and
can be beneficial for your stress level. Roth has a great example of how he misused time management to match his schedule. He talked about having a

College Student Involvement
Throughout my high school and college career, I have had the opportunity to be involved in a multitude of extracurricular programs that has made my
educational experience extraordinary. The programs I was involved with at Boise High School include choir, basketball, sports medicine, National
Honor Society of Sports Medicine and National Honor Society. Outside of school, I was an active volunteer in my community with the Idaho Humane
Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho, and the Episcopal Diocese of Idaho. I have continued this active involvement throughout my
college education by getting involved in multiple programs at Idaho State University.

Why College Students Drop Out Of College
Grab your backpack it is time to go! Struggling college students face many obstacles when trying to balance classes and life. For most college
students, family, money, workload, preparation, and the pressures of life are a few of the reasons that students drop out of college.
Being prepared for college takes time, effort and even research. Not only do young college students have to figure out how to become dependent
upon themselves for things, they have to be responsible enough to make sure that they get to class on time and complete assignments. Being prepared
ahead of time will save many long hours of worry; for example, practice getting up early and getting motivated for the day. Practice chores that you

are struggling in a class, us the college resources to find a Tudor. If you work you may find that your employer is very support and provides many
incentives for college students, it never hurts to ask. By taking the time to make a daily schedule students will see that time management can be your
friend. Leave your work at work; don't bring home work with you at the end of the day. By doing this it frees time for studying and other

College Student Addiction
In order to defeat this addiction, college students must be made aware of these life–threatening issues. From the moment they wake up to the time they
go to sleep, they must discipline themselves on how much they are in tuned with their devices. On a daily basis, they should practice being able to do
their assignments, and converse with other people around them without having to pick up their phone. Learn the essentials of using their brain as they
did in grade school. Most homework had to be done by flipping the pages of a textbook, going into a physical library and finding resources. Acollege
student must stop depending on technology to get them by. True, technology does help, but how is it really effect the minds of college students when it
comes to their mind, body, and communication? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having the ability to get turn by turn directions to a destination with GPS, we fail ourselves with the opportunity to memorize. With technology being
available not only in cell phones but television as well, we become in a zombie–like state spending hours upon hours watching t.v and playing games.
College should provide mandatory courses that have to be taken on–campus to teach about the dangers of technology addiction while being able to still
use it to benefit the college lifestyle. This will raise awareness and get more college students involved with one another rather than over the social
media. Police Departments should pass a new law that gives more severe repercussions to the first offense of driving with a phone in hand. In most
states, they go by a point system. If a person is caught using their cell phone, they can receive about 2 points against their driver's license and a
possible surcharge. The laws that protect college students and other drivers need to be made more serious so it catches the attention of the driver's
from carelessly driving with their

Student Loan System For College Students
Student Loan System Throughout the ages, society has evolved to overcome the challenges it faces from one generation to the next, by learning and
advancing further than the previous ones. It has undergone a vast number of changes; however, mankind has never undermined the importance and
necessity of a complex and well–educated society. Moreover, it is the duty of each one of us to make sure that the next generation takes a step further
than the previous one. With this in mind, society has understood the importance of higher education for the future. Yet, the hesitation we witness today
to pursue a degree is due to the high cost of student loans. Truly this is a terrifying thing which cannot be ignored, as it has a direct impact on the
future. This indicates how unfair the student loan system is for college students today.
A college education has become a necessity in this day and age; however, its costs have become a cause of discouragement for anyone willing to
pursue it. Student loans have become one of the highly debated topics of the modern century, so much so that it has begun questioning the need for a
college education. Student loans aid students with their expenses, in order for students to focus on their careers and futures. Unlike in the past, when
student loans had a considerably low–interest rate and the repayment schedule could be deferred while the student was still in school, student loans of
today with their huge interest rates have gotten completely out of

Stress In College Students
Stress is common for college students. The transition from high school to college can become stressful because they're deciding what they want to do
for their future. The lack of preparation for adulthood when choosing the right major for someone can become stressful. Once someone chooses their
degree, then they must take classes to get them to the degree. When college students step into reality knowing what classes to take can become
overwhelming. College students must know how to recognize and manage stress in these situations to become successful at what they want to achieve.
The essay "Common Sources of Stress" by Paul M. Insel and Walton T. Roth states stress comes from things we do often. Insel and Roth say, "Any

Insel and Roth mention ten different techniques for managing stress such as social support, communication, exercise, nutrition, sleep, time
management, cognitive techniques, worry constructively, take control, and problem–solve. People who handle stress properly are healthier and
accomplish their goals. Insel and Roth say, "People with a strong social support system are also better able to stand with the stress of major life
changes," because they have someone who will let them talk out their stress, rather than just hold it all in (118). If college students improve their time
managing the stress would not be as high. College students who recognize their stress can be successful at what they want to accomplish.
My transition from high school to college wasn't extremely stressful. Since I didn't move away it was not a major change in life. In high school,
there were stressful times, but not like in college. High school was laid back; however, college there are strict rules. For example, you can't miss
more than 2 weeks of class or you will get drop. Also, teachers will not accept late work or let you make up exams. I haven't had any problems with
either rule. The stressful part is the amount of homework and studying I have to do. I study every night because I don't want to fall behind in classes.
It's hard to stay on top of things because I work too. I generally close during the weekdays, so making time for

College Pressure On College Students
Enwerem O. Collins
Professor Patricia McEvoy–Jamil
English 1301
30 June 2015 Understanding College Pressure In the United States today, Colleges are made up of individuals, both the young and the old from
different works of life, who come from different backgrounds. They have different religious belief, morals, and attitudes; this make them see problems
differently. They come together with a single purpose which is to learn. Some people think College is all about a society of students having fun, or
living a carefree life, but majority of the students face so much pressure of rushing to meet deadlines and cramming for exams and so many more.
There are three categories of College Pressure working on College students today: economic pressure, parental pressure, and peer pressure. First of
all, you might want to ask why economic pressures is one of the pressures College students go through. The answer is as simple as what society do
College students live in. Do they live in a society where much of academic excellence are not demanded, or do they live in a society where transcripts
has become very important. In the United States today, employers are looking for the best A's in a transcript–I mean the best of best in students. This
alone puts pressure on college students. This put College students in pressure just to get the A's rather than concentrating on the skills and knowledge
they have to learn. However, a student living in a country where prices keep going up–

Forestalling Students In College
The policy that requires educational institutions to dissuade students from pursuing the fields that they are unlikely to succeed is, at first glance, rather
plausible. Certainly a prompt forestalling action may bring the student back from the detouring path effectively. However, the consequences of this
policy are not immutable. Instead, they vary dramatically with the characteristics of students, and the time during which the policy is enacted, before
or in college. Such complexity of the possible results of this policy requires careful circumspection. While the author declares such dissuasion is
obligatory, I remain doubtful of this.
First and foremost, the peculiarities of each student can probably lead to the different consequences even

Results of the College Student Interviews
I conducted 5 one–on–one interviews with students who have completed their first year in college. The idea was to find out how well they were
prepared for the financial decisions that would be put before them. Unlike the general survey, the interview allowed me to ask for individual input.
The first topic was preparedness. I asked if there was anyone who trained them about finances or talk to them about money. They all answered they had
received a little instruction from family and nowhere else. An interesting fact was that the majority learned their skills from their mothers.
Next they were asked a question that was similar to the survey in the aspect of what are some common items you purchase during a week. Gas,
Groceries, and coffee were consistent answers here, although school supplies were mentioned during one interview. ... Show more content on

decision was that each one had to weigh what they knew against what others were doing. Peer and family pressure played a part in each of the
choices. I continued and asked how they would grade themselves on these decisions. Only one said 5, the others graded 6, 7, 8, and 9. When asked to
explain, the student whose grade was 5 said she was caught off guard by ER trips and unplanned new tires for their car. The 9, that student felt the

Depression Amongst College Students
am writing to you today because our colleges and universities across the country are faced with a major problem. The number of depressed students is
increasing. These students are not able to get the help they deserve, and more importantly need. These institutions are not properly equipped to handle
this problem adequately. Out of 8,500 students that participated in the study, only 22% of them received minimally adequate care, defined as "at least
two months of antidepressant use plus at least three follow up visits to discuss medication or at least seven mental health–related counseling sessions"
(DeBenedette, 2012). Mental health is an integral part of our day to day lives. When our mind cannot function properly, we cannot live our lives... Show

This program proved to be successful; however, it was not implemented on all college campuses and only covers part of the mental health crisis on
campuses. Our colleges and universities students need more access to resources to help deal with all the pressures of college life. Many universities
have health clinics that deal with medical issues but very few have mental health clinics with qualified professionals that are able to handle the
excessive numbers of depressed students. For example, Rutgers University one of the few schools that offers adequate psychiatric services that include
psychiatric evaluations and medication monitoring. Students are given an initial 60 to 90 minute appointment where the psychiatrist will ask questions
about feelings, family, and development and may or may not require laboratory testing. At the end of the appointment, the student is given treatment
options and may be asked for a follow up visit. Most schools do not offer these kinds of resources. Schools need clinics that are "based on a community
mental health center model that provide evaluation, medications, crisis intervention, psychotherapy, and hospitalization, if needed" (DeBenedette,
2012). These types of clinics would make it easier for students to receive much needed help. In conclusion, I propose a project that would open
dedicated mental health clinics at colleges and universities around the country.

College Students Disadvantages
College students deal with stress, anxiety, and worrying all the time while they are taking classes on campus or online. Most students have a moment
during the semester that they are ready to have a mental break down and that is a sign that they are getting burnt out of school. Students will stop
hanging out with friends, not leave their dorm room, or will start missing classes. College can burn students out very easily from trying to fit in with
their peers or trying to survive the classes they are taking currently. Feeling stressed and burnout are two totally different things and every college
student will experience at least once if not more in their time in college. College can be very rewarding experience for many people interested ... Show

The student needs to give their selves credit every once and awhile. Students do not realize how important it is to find a group of friends that make
you feel so comfortable around. There are over thousands of students walking around campus currently and trying to find a group of friends can be
difficult if the student does not come out of their bubble to start talking to other students, that can lead into making no friends. Meeting new people
start in the students first few weeks of classes due to everyone wanting to make new friends. Once those first few weeks are over, students start
making friend groups. It is hard when the student just focuses on themselves and academic rather than their social life. Some students have a hard
time because they focus so much on their own academic rather than staying connected with their friends they made the first few weeks of classes. Not
staying connected can cause the student to get burnt out due to feeling like their friends do not want to hang out. Finding the right group of friends to
feel comfortable around can be difficult but it is easy to do. When feeling burn out of classes, go out, hang out with the friends made that make you
comfortable and let some stress off. Maybe have the friends over to do homework with. Getting burnt out of college is not enjoyable and can affect the
student's life. When the student starts feeling overwhelmed they need to take some time

Students Moving Into College
Moving into college is a major transition in a student's life and it can bring about a lot of life stressors. Moving in and adjusting to the college
lifestyle can be more difficult for some than others, but regardless there is a lot more freedom for students to make their own choices and do as they
please. In some cases, students do not necessarily know what to do with this new freedom and can fall into a variety of habits that range from positive
to negative such as studying, exercising, partying, or drug use. Research has supported that certain lifestyles, specifically drug use and stress, can have
significant effects on how well one performs academically. For example, researchers found that stress had a negative effect on academic performance

College Student Health
For most college students, gaining weight during their first year (and the following years) is a reality. While it might not be a full fifteen pounds,
23% of students will gain around ten pounds in just their first semester, and 70% of students will gain at least twelve pounds by the time they
graduate (Gropper, Simmons, Connell, & Ulrich; Wengreen & Moncur). From a survey I conducted of 50 Mizzou students, 62% of them gained
weight during their first year at college. Eight of them gained less than five pounds, 17 of them gained 5 to 10 pounds, five gained 10 to 15, and one
of them gained 15 to 20 pounds. Out of the eleven students who have completed over two years of college, eight of them gained between 5 and 10

First semester, I was slightly active through intramural volleyball and working out, but this semester has shown me how truly lazy I can be. The
only regular exercise I get is on Mondays and Fridays: a one and a half mile walk to and from the location I volunteer at. I live less than one
hundred from the rec entrance (a reason I choose my current dorm), but I hardly find myself inside. This is kind of strange for me, and would be for
you too if you knew me in high school. Freshman and sophomore year, I was a three sport athlete; and during my junior and senior year, I competed in
cross–fit and weight lifting competitions. Obviously, I know hoe to workout and stay in shape, but why haven't I in college? I think one of the
biggest reasons for this is not starting off strong. When I first got to Mizzou, I was going through sorority recruitment and was too emotionally
unstable to even think about working out. After recruitment was over, I told myself that I would work out once I figured out my schedule and
became acclimated on campus. By the time that happened, it was three or four weeks into the semester. The first time I went to the rec, I was
immediately too intimidated to do my normal work out routines and stayed out of what seemed like the boys only pump room. In addition, I felt very
silly because I did not know where all of the equipment was and how

The Success Of A College Student

  • 1. The Success Of A College Student President Obama was once quoted saying, "By the end of this decade two in three job openings will require some higher education. Two in three. And yet, we still live in a country where too many Americans are priced out of the education they need." which is a pretty depressing statement to hear from our commander in chief regarding the future of the people. America is known for being the land of opportunity where typically the favored goal of the people is acquiring wealth for a better lifestyle and future. Growing up as a kid I was always told by my teachers and parents that higher education after high school is extremely necessary; this same expectation goes for the whole country as there is clearly emphasis on getting a college degree in order to be successful. Although college may not be for everyone, there are those who would really like to gain acceptance to an institution, but cannot because they do not have the money to do so. The rise in cost to be a college student has become too expensive for a country that encourages, and emphasizes higher education. Tuition and fees, loans, and extra expenses become a big price to pay for wanting to play the proper role in society as a student looking for a better future. Today's college students have to deal with a huge financial decision at a very young age that leads to frustration and confusion which is caused by the inflating prices of college tuition. As decades have passed, it is clear that the cost of college ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Stress For College Students Introduction "I will be so glad when this semester is over because school is stressing me to the max." This is a quote that quite a few college students are familiar with and have probably said themselves. College can be a fun but also stressful time for students. They are focused on making sure they attend class and get passing grades so they can be successful and hopefully succeed in the next chapter of their life. Researchers at Columbia University and the University of San Diego conducted a study conducted a study to determine how stress negatively affects academic performance and enrollment. They were surprised by the nearly 25% of students polled in the National College Health Assessment that said they experienced poor grades or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the article students also reported the cramped housing and lack of healthy food choices caused stress as well. (College Student Report Stress Affects Academic Performance, 2011). The next source used for the paper was an article that came from New York University and it gave the key facts when it comes to college student experiencing stress. Some of the key facts included college student reporting being more stressed out than ever before and stress being the number one impediment to academic performance and 55% of students, nationally claimed their biggest stressor to be academic in nature. (Stress, 2009). A survey at Villanova University was conducted for the article and the results of the survey included 70% of undergraduates experienced stress. Also for one–fourth respondents, stress adversely affected academic performance (Top Impediments to Academic Success) (n.d.). The purpose of this study is to show how college student stress levels can impact their academic achievement in a negative way. The relevance this could have to social work is that it could show how high levels of stress can negatively impact college student's academic performance. The information found in this study could show social workers that too much stress can be bad especially if a student comes to them asking for help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Stress on College Students Recently, many first–year college students face to stress. Stress is come from different ways. From The Associated Press and MTV conducted a survey of college students, 74% of students feel stress about grades,67% of students feel stress about financial worries, 54% of students feel stress about their families and 53% of students feel stress about relationships(The Associated Press and MTV,2009). In the following, I would like to discuss what cause, effect and prevention of college stress. The cause of stress is divided to three parts. They are academic performance pressure, financial problem and family. The most important cause is academic performance pressure. In your college life, you have many works, such as attending classes, completing the readings, writing papers, managing projects and preparing for exam. For freshman, it may constitute stress. In addition, some freshman don't know what happen when starting college, some students don't know how to distribute their time to finish their project or assignment. Moreover, so many test and exam need to do revision, students who study all through the night because they worry they can't get a content marks. Also, students who want get higher score and GPA to get scholarship, so the competition for earning top marks can be very fierce(White, 2010). "College life has become a lot more competitive, it's much harder to get into schools, it is gotten a lot more expensive." Say Elizabeth Scott, stress management expert. If you ... • 4. Being A College Student Being a college student comes with some challenges and some of the challenges are trying to keep up with all the assignments, trying to live away from home and the biggest challenge is being financially prepared for college. Being a freshman in college requires a lot of money and when it comes to paying for tuition, textbooks and other college expense, most students are not prepared on how the money should be spent properly. There are college students who live away from home and that increases the amount of money they have to spent to continue going to college. A big part of being a college student is spending money to help with their education because in college nothing is free and everything needs to be bought and succeed in college. In the reading "The reason college costs more than you think" written by Jon Marcus, the author goes over how many students are not financially ready for college and don't know about the different circumstances that can occur that could increase the money needed to continue with school. The main reason why money is a big problem for college students is having a strict budget that can be used. Money is a common problem for every student because of their perspective on what are the spending priority. Most students only prepare to go to college for only four years and the author Jon Marcus explains, it is because it is an idea that everyone should graduate in four years, parents believe four years of college it the norm to graduate and finally ... • 5. College Student Athlete "When you invest your time, you make a goal and a decision of something that you want to accomplish. Whether it's make good grades in school, be a good athlete, be a good person, go down and do some community service and help somebody who's in need, whatever it is you choose to do, you're investing your time in that" (Nick Saban). Athletes .Being a student athlete in college increases your chances of success in college by getting constant pressure from the coaches to get good grades, receiving a full scholarship helps the athlete not have any debt after he or she graduates also playing sports helps one build social network. The pressure the coaches put on their players has a positive reflection on their grades. Coaches will push and nag for their student athletes to go to tutorials, get to know your professor, and even sit in the front so the teacher can know you are serious about your education. The graduation rate for student athletes is much higher than regular students. "More student athletes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Student athletes on full scholarship receive free tuition and fees, free room and board at a institution of higher learning. "To avoid student debt, use academic and athletic excellence to land gift–aid scholarships that leave you free and clear after graduation" (College Scholarship.org). I attend a private institution on full scholarship. It cost 36,000 dollars a year just to attend this school, if I didn't land a full scholarship to go here I would probably end up at Texas Southern like my mom, aunts and uncles did. Everything is paid for so after I graduate I won't have any debt or loans to pay back once I graduate. A scholarship is not always going to cover the full bill of college. • 6. Passion for College Students Passion – College Students for Their Schools College students traditionally show pride towards their respective school. What makes students so enthusiastic for their school? In Laura Randall's "Things You Only Do in College" and David Berreby's "It Takes a Tribe" both writers explore college culture but come up with decidedly different results. Randall argues that college students' traditions are embarrassing to the university, and students should be focusing on schoolwork not traditions; but Berreby suggests traditions are for the pride which students have for their school. In this essay I argue that students are passionate for their school, and the traditions they participate in are for the pride they have for the school. Randall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this quote he is saying there are many students who apply to colleges for name recognition. However, when they get to the university or college they will participate in the traditions. Not every student at Penn State knows the fight song or the alma mater. However, when they go to a football game or any other sporting event they will be standing proudly singing that same fight song or alma mater. Berreby states that "They'll learn contempt for that rival university, Oklahoma to their Texas, Sacramento State to their U.C. Davis, Annapolis to their West Point" (Berreby, 207). This quote is saying the students will also learn who the rival university is, and they will build a hatred for them, and root against them every chance they get. He also talks about some of the bigger rivalries between colleges. Oklahoma and Texas have been rivals for years, but in the public eye society view this rivalry for sports. No one thinks about whose graduates succeed more after college. Society's views on rivalries deal with sports, and college students live off their sports teams. If the teams do well then the campus is always more lively, but if the teams lose there is a down feeling all throughout the campus. For example, before Penn State played Michigan in football this year there was a huge anticipation for the game. Most of my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However too many times these students fall behind in their studies and though they probably don't mean to end up just trying to "survive" their classes. This is exactly what professors fear though they have no reason to with me. I always put my best foot forward and have had more than enough experience winning the fight against stress. When you look for students to hire I am sure you are looking for ambitious individuals with a knack for learning. If so then you don't need to look any further considering I am both of those things. This semester I had to pay for half of my tuition, and that was difficult to do with two low pay retail jobs. • 10. College Partying And College Students Have you ever wondered why college students party? In the past, I've heard people's reasoning to go to college. Some of those reasons aren't for bettering themselves. Some people want to go to college specifically for the college partying experience. What makes a high school student want to experience a college party? There's thrills, sex, socialization, and a nothing can touch me mind set. I started thinking sociologically when I realized a lot of college students are effected by college parties due to alcohol abuse. The majority of college students party. At these parties there is always alcohol of some nature. Some students may have come from a home that was strict. This can cause students to act out when they get to college because they don't have parents constantly monitoring their behavior. Talking to several friends who party on a weekly basis tell me their parents would be anger with them if they knew what they were doing. This type of behavior was punishable at their houses. Students also rebel because they have helicopter parents. According to 7 Tips for Dealing with Your Helicopter Parents While in College, "Some college students rebel against the helicopter parents by partying. While they are partying, and drinking, they don't feel guilty ignoring their parents calls or texts" (Sazegar). There are many different articles and tips on the internet dealing with this issue. Overvolved College Students Life of an over–involved college student "30 percent of freshmen entering college last autumn reported feeling stressed" (Higher Education Research Institute at the UCLA.) A pre–med college student who is over–involved in the college life may deal with a lot of challenges. Student Loan System For College Students Student Loan System Throughout the ages, society has evolved to overcome the challenges it faces from one generation to the next, by learning and advancing further than the previous ones. It has undergone a vast number of changes; however, mankind has never undermined the importance and necessity of a complex and well–educated society. Moreover, it is the duty of each one of us to make sure that the next generation takes a step further than the previous one. With this in mind, society has understood the importance of higher education for the future. Yet, the hesitation we witness today to pursue a degree is due to the high cost of student loans. In the first place, the interest rates have been rigged to increase dramatically in a very short period of time. The interest on the student loans has increased substantially resulting in huge debts for the outgoing graduate. These rates have skyrocketed, "The average student loan debt was $18,550 in 2004; this figure has doubled over the decade and now represents a 56% increase" compared to the previous decade and we are fully aware that paying off such a debt would take a lifetime and is very difficult (End The Debt). This has begun giving graduate students the feeling of a never–ending debt. Due to this, there are a huge number of high–school students who are re–considering a college degree, even though they are fully aware of the necessity of qualification for many jobs. An interesting fact is how the student loan system has made a conscious effort to incorporate international students to finance their full–time MBA degrees. An example of this would be, "The Simon Business School at the University of Rochester in New York is offering a student loan program, with student loans ranging from $1,000 to the full cost of tuition" this is a very useful benefit to international students (Other News). • 13. Access To College Students In this day and age, technology takes center stage. Temple College students understand this well, considering nearly all school assignments require access to a computer and the internet. This need for technology prompts a vast majority of students to take advantage of the computers provided by the school. However, these students are forced to maneuver around blocked websites and other internet restrictions put in place by T.C. Temple College students should have access to all websites when they are using T.C. computers on the grounds that students are mature, they are paying for access, and restricted access to the internet limits students resources. College students are mature enough to have access to the full, uncensored internet. Society expects young adults, more specifically college students, to manage their own lives and time. This could cause embarrassment in the student and make his or her situation worse. There are many ways to stay healthy on campus. To begin with, the American CollegeHealth and Association states that "The top five threats to academic performance are stress; a cold, flu or sore throat; sleep difficulties; concerns for friends or family; and depression" (qtd. in Dineley). When a student's grade drops from any of the five threats, his or her future can be affected. A student's career can depend on his or her grades and health. Dineley tells the first way to stay healthy is to get plenty of rest. Many students get too little of sleep, which causes illness ("College")". A student with an illness could miss class. Besides missing class, a student will have less time to study and learn. The second way to stay healthy according to Dineley is to exercise more often. However, many students do not have enough time to exercise; especially dealing with the stress of college ("College"). A student's top priority might be his or her grades. If a student slacks on exercising, his or her physical health may deplete rapidly. Ultimately, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Should College Students Be A College? Have you ever thought about how difficult it is to go to college? As a current college student, my concern is about how difficult it is to attend college. Students depend on many variables since most of them are dependent on their parents or on a job. There are many issues that college students have to face in order to attain a college degree. In my opinion, there are three issues that are significantly critical to students face when they are planning to attend college; Influence of Others, Location, Transportation, and the Students' Income. Students' being influenced by other people is a major concern. Luckily, I had the choice to decide what I wanted to study and my parents are supporting me every day. In contrast, there are people who don't have the same luck, and unfortunately they have to deal with their parents' ideology about what they should study. For example, Samuel, who is my best–friend since I was five years old, has always wanted to be a professional video producer. However, his father always wanted him to be a dentist just like him. When Samuel decided to tell his dad about his inspiration to be a video producer, his dad got disappointed and decided to no longer support him in his persuasion of his dream career. Those being the circumstances, Samuel decided to do what his dad always wanted him to do, become a dentist, because there was no possible way he could afford college tuition by himself. This was an example of my friend supporting the idea of how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. First Generation College Students Coming from a smaller town where a lot of families do not have the money to send themselves or even their children to college was tough, I was always worried about what was going to happen after high school was over. Applying for financial aid and signing up for classes without having a family member who has done it before is very difficult, the student don't know what classes to take or how much money to take out for loans, as a first generation college student myself it has been hard to do all the paperwork for college. A first generation college student can be very stressed like all college students but for first generation students they have no one that has gone through the same thing and that could help them get through it. Financial issues are going to be stressful for every college student, but for first generation students it can get extremely difficult seen as they do not know that much about applying for financial aid. Some students can get scholarships that help to pay for their college, though they do not know how to apply for those scholarships sometimes.Students who are first generation do not get the advice of their parents on college, just like how they do not know how to sign up for financial aid and other resources that are useful. Allocating more time towards having fun rather than focusing on schoolwork or studying in general also affects student's time management. Since they have every opportunity of flexibility with minimal boundaries involved, there is the urge to enjoy the newfound liberty, and as a result, neglect of assignments, deadlines bypassed and incompetent test results. For that reason, the commitment to study is only realized when exams are approaching thereby causing panic to the student as the realization that class materials have not been covered starts to arise. Finally, the most difficult challenge students face in college is a financial hardship. Many students come from various walks of life and sometimes determining one's financial capability to offset college costs during the early stages of can be problematic. Some students come from well to do families who have a tremendous capacity to pay full tuition without external assistance. These particular students do not require financial aid or scholarships, as they can meet the institution's financial requirement regardless of what level in college they may fall under as the source of wealth is derived from the family or families. • 22. Homeless College Students Do you know the reason why so many college students in the United States are currently homeless? As of the moment there are thousands of college students roaming around the streets, due to not having the necessary resources they need. Now days, it is common for a college student to be left homeless, be evicted, thrown out their homes, or found living in a abandoned buildings which isn't suitable as a living environment. • 23. Why College Students Are Not Success In College Through the years in America, more students in each generation of college are being successful and finishing college. "The latest data show that just 40 percent of Americans have finished an associate's degree or above, while an additional 22 percent attend some college but failed to graduate" (Kelly, p.1). The 22 percent of college students who are failing to graduate, could be the college students who are not being successful in college. There are many reasons why students are not successful in college. Some main reasons students are not successful in college are typical because of drugs, stress, time management and procrastination, lack of desire and persistence and also poor self–esteem and lack of self–confidence. One reason why students are not successful in college is that of drugs. When students leave their homes to go off to college they meet new people, and experience overjoy of new freedom. When students notice that they are experiencing new freedom, they try new and different things. One of the main things students try that are new and different, depending on where the student is from, are drugs. Students use drugs for a lot of different reasons. Students use drugs to cope with stress, try to maintain course load, and they are influenced by peer pressure. In college, drugs are taken too far once students start to use them. "Those who are enrolled in a full–time college program are twice as likely to abuse drugs and alcohol than those who don't attend college" (College students and Drug Abuse). The students who abuse drugs in college are the students that are normally not successful in college. The drugs take over the mind and students become unfocused and behind in school work, which leads to students failing out of college. Another reason why students are not successful in college is that of stress. Relationships, family issues and cost of tuition are stress–related factors that are dealt with a college student. The America Institute of the street website says, "a 2008 mental health study by the Associated Press and mtvU eight in 10 college students say they have experienced stress in their daily lives over the past three months" (Stress in College Students p. 1). For example, I feel that I can write well, yet there are areas that need improvement, like increased vocabulary and decreased compound–complex sentences. Therefore with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be expanded and practiced, building upon what I have already learned and observing new ways to apply my writing skills. Success can be defined by time management, having a positive mindset, and having a purpose. Truly this is a terrifying thing which cannot be ignored, as it has a direct impact on the future. This indicates how unfair the student loan system is for college students today. A college education has become a necessity in this day and age; however, its costs have become a cause of discouragement for anyone willing to pursue it. They have different religious belief, morals, and attitudes; this make them see problems differently. They come together with a single purpose which is to learn. Some people think College is all about a society of students having fun, or living a carefree life, but majority of the students face so much pressure of rushing to meet deadlines and cramming for exams and so many more. There are three categories of College Pressure working on College students today: economic pressure, parental pressure, and peer pressure. First of all, you might want to ask why economic pressures is one of the pressures College students go through. The answer is as simple as what society do College students live in. Do they live in a society where much of academic excellence are not demanded, or do they live in a society where transcripts has become very important. In the United States today, employers are looking for the best A's in a transcript–I mean the best of best in students. This alone puts pressure on college students.
