● Named after John A. Logan, a Union
General in the Civil War
● Developed by Martin Kimbell
● Fully annexed into Chicago in 1889
● Original citizens were mostly English,
Scandinavian (Norwegian and
Danish), Polish or Jewish
● Illinois Centennial Monument built in
1918

-1850, there was a large farmers market along North West Plank Road, and now

-1871 Chicago fire, Logan Square grew especially suburban Maplewood which is

-1889, the “L” arrived and new homes were built
-After WWI, Logan Square boomed

own houses along the boulevards, the majority of Logan
Square's residents live in rental flats and apartments
