Italian High Fashion
Shines in PDX
Chronicling the evolution of Italian fashion from
the end of World War II to today, the exhibition
“Italian Style: Fashion Since 1945” is showing at
the Portland Art Museum through May 3, in a
West Coast exclusive. Italy’s modern fashion
industry began as a tale of reinvention, after
support from the postwar Marshall Plan
allowed the country to start reinvesting in
trades. Included in “Italian Style” are
clothes and accessories that
helped solidify Italy’s status
as a fashion leader. One
of the highlights is a
Mila Schön dress that
was worn to Truman
Capote’s Black and White
Ball in 1966. To accompany
the exhibition, the museum is
hosting events such as a conversation
series with local Portland designers who
are influenced by Italian fashion. For more
information, call 503-226-2811 or visit
