PSA-(Prostate-specific antigen) is a protein that is
produced by prostate gland cells.
PSA test measures the level of PSA in man's blood.
The results are normally reported as nanograms of
PSA (ML-milliliter) (ng/ml)

PSA TEST
The level of blood in PSA is normally elevated in male
with prostate cancer, and PSA test was approved by the
FDA in 1986 (America) to monitor the progression of
prostate cancer in male, who already suffering from
Prostate problem.

PSA TEST
The FDA allows the use of PSA test in conjunction with a
digital rectal exam (DRE) to test prostate cancer symptoms
in male. Men who report prostate symptoms normally go
though PSA testing (with DRE) to let doctors know nature of
problem.

A number of benign (not cancerous) conditions may lead
to rise of PSA level in man with prostate cancer. The most
recently benign prostate conditions that cause increase in
PSA level are prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) and
benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) (Enlargement of the
prostate).

There is no definite evidence responsible for prostatitis or
BPH (prostate cancer). PSA level can be elevated in both of
the conditions. These conditions may cause prostate cancer
as well.

Foods to lower PSA levels

Turmeric
Turmeric, which is called as Haridra in Ayurveda, is a potent
anti-inflammatory herb with curcumin as active principle.
Curcumin helps to reduce PSA levels and fight against
prostate cancer.

Green tea
Green tea acts as a strong antioxidant that detoxifies the body
and clears the channels.

Cabbages
Type of cabbages like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower contains
sulphur rich compounds which are anti cancerous agents and
lowers the PSA levels. Cruciferous vegetables lowers the risk
of prostate cancer up to 50 %.

Pomegrannete (dadima)
Pomegranate, also called Dadima in Ayurveda, has got lot of
health benefits. This has been proved to lower the PSA level
as compounds found in it inhibits the growth of carcinogen
cells.

Lycopene
Consumption of a diet rich in lycopene can reduce the
aggressive potential of prostate cancer. Tomatoes are rich in
lycopene. ( Not Recommended in Kidney stones )

Soy
Soy can reduce prostate enlargement and can slow down the
tumour growth. Effect is attributed by isoflavones, that helps
to lower dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a man hormone that
stimulates the enlargement prostate tissue.

Avocadoes are rich in beta-sitosterol :

Rosemary
Rosemary has active compounds which have potential to fight
against prostate cancer, such as carnosic acid, rosmarinic acid,
alpha-pinene, beta-pinene and cineole.

Spinach
Spinach have 100 % power to kill Prostate cancer cells in vitro
and reduces the risk of prostate cancer in men by up to 82 %.
Neoxanthin is a Special Carotenoid that is found in spinach.

Nuts And seeds
Nuts, seeds, wheat germ and wholegrain are rich in Vitamin E,
which helps in reducing inflammation and also protects
against cancer.

Intake of vitamin C has been proved very effective in
preventing various prostate health issues as it enhances
immunity.

Foods rich in selenium
Foods rich in selenium include garlic and onions, sunflower
seeds, mushrooms, whole grains, brazil nuts and fish which
are best to choose for prostate health.

Foods rich in Zinc
Zinc intake daily up to 20 mg is suggested for better recovery
as in prostate cancer, it is deficient.

Water removes toxins
Drink lot of water which removes toxins out and protects
from various health issues but avoid taking after evening.

Restrict Dairy Products
Avoid dairy products which contribute to develop prostate
cancer.

Avoid Spicy Food
Avoid spicy, fried and junk food items.
One can use cinnamon, garlic, turmeric for flavors and
these are very good antioxidants also so helps in
detoxification of body too.

Alcohol Can Be Dangerous
Decrease the intake of alcohol, caffeine and other
substances that irritates the urinary tract system.

Avoid Saturated Food
Avoid intake of meats, saturated fat that leads to gain
weight.

Avoid Sugar
Avoid sugar-sweetened drinks, such as sodas and many fruit
juices. Eat sweets as an occasional treat.

Avoid Salt
Cut down on Salt. Choose foods low in sodium by reading
and comparing food labels. Limit the use of canned,
processed, and frozen foods.

Caution
Watch portion sizes. Eat slowly, and stop eating when you
are full.

Stay active
Researchers shown that aerobic
exercise, including brisk walking,
or non aerobic exercise,
(included leg lifts, sit-ups, and
stretching) three times a week
significantly improves prostatitis
pain and and quality of life.
