2. Description of the Currency
Demonstration
• Rewardsystem e-wallet
• Central emission of ‘points’
• Started 10 years ago to stimulate reusable
bottles, quick shift to advanced technology,
e-ID, database, online webshop
3. Needs addressed by the Currency, why
the model used was chosen?
• Stimulate and change citizens behaviour (waste &
environment)
• Marginal cost of products low + sponsoring
• Expand to other needs (testing 2 social projects)
• Possibility to stick to local needs per municipality
4. How the currency works
• Citizens and organisations are rewarded with
‘points’ = revive and activate this ‘idle’ capacity
• Points can be used to buy items or services offered
by the municipality = search for low marginal cost,
fits with the local policy goals
• IT solution, central database (300.000 households)
• Connection with the National Register (e-ID card)
• Authentication through e-ID card
• Web shop technology
5. Shared learning from Partners of the
CCIA Project
• Measuring of results and impact (ToC by NEF)
• How to cope with political agenda and local
authorities = strengths and weaknesses
• Implementing new ICT = complex process
• Engage citizens = participation (Makkie and Spice)
• Accept CC for local tax (Lambeth, business rate)
• Include other services (mobility, Nantes)
• Knowledge (Qoin conference The Hague 2013)
• Cope with EU administration (WCVA)
