Interviewing Pitfalls

Institution Pitfalls in Interviewing
Victims of various crimes are usually from diverse backgrounds regarding their cultural beliefs, physical abilities, and disabilities as well language
among other factors. Therefore, as an interviewer, one should consider all the factors to ensure that the interviewing process goes on smoothly. It is
also the role of the interviewer to make sure that even though the factors are considered, there is the least bias in the process to ensure that the
prosecution gets the facts right rather than based on the interviewer's perception (Thakkar, Jaffe & Vander Linden, 2015). Cultural differences and
physical disabilities are some of the most common hindrances of communication during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sex of the interviewee is one of the factors. In some cultures, the interviewer may have problems questioning a victim of the opposite sex. Also, young
interviewers may be perceived as disrespectful when trying to interview older individuals, especially when they question the information given by the
victim. Also, people of some cultures do not like making eye contact when communicating, therefore making their answering of issues ineffective to
prosecute the defender. For instance, in cultures such as the Native Americans and Asians among others, not looking directly into someone's eyes is
perceived as respecting the person. Also, some of the interviewees may not respond respectfully because of stereotypical perceptions concerning the
culture of the interviewer. For instance, a racist interviewee may not like being interviewed by a person from a race that they see as lesser than theirs.
Also, language is part of the culture, and there may arise language barrier between the interviewer and their interviewee in case they do not clearly
understand each other (Thakkar, Jaffe & Vander Linden, 2015). Therefore, to ensure that the effects of culture are minimized, the interviewer should
make sure that they avoid negativity such as stereotyping and generalizing. It is also important to avoid shouting to make the process successful.
Otherwise, if the

Oil vs. Green Technology: Pitfalls and Promises
Oil versus green technology: Pitfalls and promises The need to maintain access to crude oil supplies has long been used to justify many US policies,
such as our relatively conciliatory attitude towards autocratic Middle Eastern nations that we would otherwise abhor. However, authors such as Thomas
Friedman have begun to question this conventional wisdom. Friedman has suggested that American dependence upon oil has become a self–fulfilling
prophesy, and stymied our ability to lessen our dependency on fossil fuels. Remaining addicted to oil is bad for the US politically as well as bad
for the environment. "Eight of the top nine oil exporters are dictatorships or autocratic kingdoms" (Fischetti 2011). Other nations, including China,
understand this reality and so must the US. Our dependence on oil renders us politically vulnerable. "Oil prices are global, and as Woolsey points
out, the US has no domestic leverage. Greatly increasing our own offshore oil drilling could lower imports a little, but it won't lower world prices;
it is too easy for OPEC to manipulate production to offset the effects of any new US supply" (Fischetti 2011). The world's biodiversity is threatened
because of the developed world's addiction to oil (Friedman 2008: 141). Major investments in green technology are the only way to alter this state of
affairs. To create incentives to get off oil, Friedman has suggested a $1–a–gallon gasoline tax. According to Friedman, gas prices are slowly and steadily

Cultural And Societal Influence On Adolescents
Different types of environments change the way technology is used by society. The belief system surrounding technology relies on "everything from
religion and spirituality to gender, sexuality, work ethics, and politics. The range of attitudes that a culture embraces on a particular topic affects the
beliefs, lifestyles, and perceptions of their adolescents. They both can have both positive and negative impacts on adolescents' development." (Cultural
and Societal Influences on Adolescent Development). Particularly, living in a rural area, on a farm greatly shifted my perspective ofelectronics:
respecting them more, allowing me the ability to scrutinize this "superficial [world]" (Stewart); this environment can be stated for many adolescents. ...

Stewart explained that kids who can recognize their regret for being on electronics have the ability to regain their lost skills, such as time
management and denial. Dr. Stewart dismissed that technology was not addictive: "Technology is a drug... it makes you feel as if you lost your
sense of things." As adolescents mature, they become less active in their family if they are influenced by technology, whereas if not influenced by
technology they would be more active in family affairs. She notes my "personal" experience and maturation with electronics; because of my "rural
upcoming" and "care for nature" electronics have less of an impact on myself. "Electronics were just another hobby" that one of her kids had. This
hobby of building computers for peers, fixing electronics around the house, advising strangers how to troubleshoot and fix their problem accordingly,
even finding expertise in becoming anonymous across the internet has affected siblings, parents, friends, and strangers. Nevertheless, there are severe
downfalls to this hobby. Just as professional sports players spend the majority of their time training and playing, I experiment with various electronic
devices and research them. If one considers a passion for any activity healthy then my passion should subsequently be considered healthy. Any one
event while using electronics i.e. a laptop, can set one up for aliment, as it modifies how they interact and socialize with others. It also shows how they

Avoiding The Pitfalls Of The Unauthorized Practice Of Law,
Avoiding the pitfalls of the unauthorized practice of law, also known as UPL, is one of the most important duties that all legal professionals or
aspiring law students should learn and integrate into their law career, in order to maintain impeccable ethics and conduct at all times. Clear rules and
regulations must be followed in regards to the unauthorized practice of law. Thus, in order to avoid the unauthorized practice of law, one must first
know what it is by definition and how it pertains to their best practices and due diligence. Furthermore, the violations of one's failure to comply with
the rules and regulations for UPL, may be costly in more ways than one. Individual's or "non–Lawyer's" who have not graduated and earned a law...

Nevertheless, anyone pursuing a legal degree, would to themselves a great deal of justice by learning and understanding what role they are to take
within the legal industry and implement the definition of UPL. If one does not steer clear of this violation, it could be a "career–ender" (Denckla) The
role a paralegal has in a law firm is a vital. These professionals are highly valued for the abilities they contribute in the area of knowing the law, legal
research and how it applies to a client's case. Furthermore, paralegals also as assist their Attorneys on a variety of tasks pertaining to a law related
matters. Regardless, no matter how knowledgeable the paralegal may be; they are always required to work under the direct supervision of an
attorney. There are very little exceptions for paralegals to work in the law field, unsupervised. Even in these exceptions, It is still possible for a
professional paralegal, under the supervision of an attorney or not, to still commit UPL (California Legislative Information Business and Professions
Code). Regardless if a paralegal knows the answer to a client's legal question, they must never give that client any advice or direction for applying case
law recommendations and remedies to the client's legal question. Furthermore, when a paralegal is working in a law firm and they come into contact
with a client, whether it be interviewing

The Leadership Pitfalls Of Leadership
Leaders Who Fall to the Pitfalls of Leadership
When an employee of an organization feels their performance and achievements do not matter, that organization may ultimately suffer. Genuinely
recognizing the value of your employees will help stop a leader from falling into the pitfalls of leadership, and having their employees enter into a
dimension known as the 'critter state". An employee that falls into this state is known to have their ideas and skills fall short while they focus on a
single question: "What will keep me safe?" (Comaford C., 2013). Below, I will explore the leadership pitfalls and how to possibly avoid them.
Pitfall Number 1: Failing to Respond to Employee Emails
I can recall a situation at a former employer, where I sent an email to my supervisor asking for the following day off from work. I sent the email early
in the morning to give my employer enough time to consider my request. By mid–afternoon, I did not have a response. My supervisor was busier than
usual that day, but I sent her another email incase she forgot to reply. I still had no response by the end of the day. I finally approached her and
asked if she had a chance to read my email. She then told me she could not approve my request because our office would be short–staffed. I understood
the reason but did not understand why she did not respond to my email. I left work that day feeling I was not important enough for her to respond to
my email. A simple and quick reply would have

Pitfalls Of Conservatism
The Republican elites have certainly surrendered to their nominee. They enjoy citing the "lesser of two evils", in which the problems that Trump brings
to the table are not as serious as the certain destruction that Hillary would bring if she was elected. Another emerging sentiment is that conservatism, in
its current ideological form, is no longer relevant in modern political discourse. Traditional Reagan–era conservatism had its day, and it failed, so why
not a new strategy, led by a potential despot who is at least promising to attack the status–quo.
However, if the truth is that conservatism is the only way to save this country, it is a requisite that the ideology be preserved, not perverted.
Conservatives need not to obey their party. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this should be the subject of another paper discussing the merits of conservatism, and its place in modern politics. In this section, I will just
be focusing on how the bastardized version of conservatism that Donald Trump is preaching is becoming, and will eventually lead to a complete
disaster if left unchecked. There will be no victory for true conservatives here, and if their movement truly converts to Trumpism, they will lose a
generation of voters.
This election is not even close, and that is not because of disaffected conservatives. It is because Donald Trump is a horrible joke of a candidate.
Currently, he is sitting at about 7 percent for those under age 30. These polls show that the youth population prefers not only Hillary, but the other two
fringe candidates over Trump. He's running at less than .5 percent among African American voters, and not even on par with Mitt Romney among white
non–educated voters. Since the first debate, he is trailing in almost all the key battleground states. If polls remain close to what they are showing
currently, he's not just going to lose, he will have been demolished on a historic level. Republicans in Congress will pay the price for backing him,
and having to answer questions justifying their decisions day after day. All this is to defend a candidate who has shown no allegiance

In our strategic planning work, we often work with companies who have tried strategic planning before. Almost inevitably, the companies we meet were
disappointed in the results they got before using Simplified Strategic Planning. While some of these disappointments can be attributed to poor strategy
or process issues, many – perhaps a third – were disappointed because the plan failed to lead to good implementation of the strategy.
This is a shame, because your management team puts some of its best thinking into your strategic plans. Often, the team is quite excited about the
vision portrayed by your strategies. So, how is it that strategic plans are so often poorly implemented?
In our experience, there are five main root causes of poor implementation. Some of these are very closely linked to each other – that is, it 's common to
see pairs of this issue operating in tandem. But, ultimately, each of these items, by itself, can torpedo your strategy implementation:
1. The plan is not linked to implementation

Pitfalls Of Being On A Team
Being on a team has its perks and its downfalls for everyone. For example being apart of a team will help you cooperate with others, and
understand what it's like to win and/or lose together as a whole. An example of a downfall for participating in a team is if you or another player
makes a mistake the whole team has to pay for it and make up for a mistake that only one person made. As said before being on a team has its ups
and downs and these factors may make it difficult or possibly easy for people to chose whether or not to engage in team activities such as sports or
drama. Being on a team helps people grow mentally, physically, and socially. Participating in team exercises helps people mature mentally and helps
improve communication skills. It does this by simply talking to others. Engaging in teams has been proven to help people see different perspectives
and understand what others are going through even if you may not have gone through the same events. Performing in a team helps improve you
physically as well as mentally. An example of this is with teams such as sports. With sports people are exercising while still working together. Even

For many engaging in a team takes too much time and energy to really commit to. Especially for kids who should be focusing on school work along
with their family and friends, but by adding a sport or any activity could offset that person's balance and send them over board. Another reason that
being on a team is bad is it's unfair to many people. Yes, in activities some are going to be better than others, but in many cases the others aren't given
an opportunity to prove themselves and unfortunately this is the case for many people and students. Participating in a club can also be very expensive.
Some people aren't able to even afford the fee to get into the activity, and not to forget all of the equipment that comes with

The Pitfalls Of Plastic Surgery Summary
In "The Pitfalls of Plastic Surgery," by Camille Paglia, she argues that American surgeons are being too narrow minded with their work because they
use the same models as a representation of what their clients can look like. She suggests that getting plastic surgery has become such a normal thing in
America and that society pushes women to get work done in order to get that "perfect" look. Paglia also points out that plastic surgery has "leveled the
playing field" with wives and their husbands mistresses (694). Also, she believes that plastic surgery is not only critical in keeping a job, but also in
keeping a relationship. Although I agree with some of Paglia's arguments, I view some of the issues differently such as, needing plastic surgery to keep
a marriage, that plastic surgery is for non intellectuals, that Hollywood's environment encourages women to change their looks, and that nothing good
can come out of plastic surgery.
Over time, many wives would have to compete with younger women that had a better physical appearance than them, thus, causing many wives to get
plastic surgery so they would not lose their husband to younger women. Paglia criticizes the idea of women getting plastic surgery in order to keep
their husbands when saying, "In the post 1960s culture of easy divorce on demand, middle–aged women have found themselves competing with nubile
women in their 20s, who are being scooped up as trophy second wives by ambitious men having a midlife crisis. Cosmetic

Sharia In Canad The Pitfalls Of Diversity
Islam is now the second most practiced religion in Canada, only behind Catholicism. Approximately one million people living in Canada identify as
Muslim, making it one of the largest minority groups within Canada. Internationally, Canada can be identified as a multicultural country, known for its
diversity of population and for its policies which enforce toleration for those living within Canada. The film Sharia in Canada – The Pitfalls of Diversity
explores the debates around allowing for Sharia law to exist as a legitimate law form within Canada. This is a point of contention throughout various
groups of people in Canada. In the 1990s, the idea to first introduce sharia law in Canadian society was presented. Sharia law is the rules outlined ...

However, with the emergence of multicultural policy, some difficulties have developed in the attempt to in place these policies. The challenges which
have emerged include the problem of how to properly categorize minorities, the problem of conditions and sequencing, and the relationship between
justice and security, (Kymlicka, 2013, pp. 8–9). Examining the relationship between justice and security, the question of to what extent should minority
rights be preserved, and what risks are worth taking is brought forward, (Kymlicka, 2013, p. 9). Putting Sharia law into practice is controversial
because while it follows multicultural, the practice also differentiates from Canadian law, and puts some Canadians at

The Pitfalls of American Interventionism Essay
The United States has been feeling the effects of Middle Eastern terrorism since June 5th, 1968, when Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian acting alone, shot
and killed Senator Robert F. Kennedy in response to some pro–Israeli statements he made (Eland 10). United States support for the newly formed Israel
had garnered a lot of hatred from native Palestinians, and Sirhan's attack marked the beginning of anti–American sentiment in the region. Starting with
President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the United States had been interfering in the Middle East, using Iran as a base for anti–Soviet operations. Over the
years, U.S relations with the Middle East soured, leading CIA–trained operatives to form terrorist organizations. President George H. W. Bush... Show

As for economic downturn, the lack of regulation and the failures of banks were both caused by the Gulf Wars. The United States government was too
focused upon military conflict outside of its borders to pay attention to the loopholes that banks were using to make unwise lending decisions. The Gulf
Wars had a large economic impact on the United States and was the primary cause of the economic downturn during both Bush administrations.
American intervention in the Middle East drove up gas prices to an all–time high, resulting in billions of dollars lost. As Peter Katel said, "In the week
that the [First Gulf War] started, the average world oil price was about $27 a barrel...[later oil prices] were pushed up to prices upwards of $116 a
barrel." (5). The money lost due to this alone ranged in the hundreds of billions of dollars lost. As a result, the American economy took a
staggering blow, and was later felled by the economic cost of the war itself. The global increase in oil prices caused inflation, leading to a massive
increase in cost of living expenses. But, the American intervention in the Middle East included larger and far more devastating expenses as well. For
the first Gulf War, a war that lasted a little over a hundred days cost upwards of $260 billion dollars ("Calculating" 6). The second Gulf War, or theIraq
War, was far more costly, as

360 Degree Feedback- Benefits and Pitfalls
360 DEGREE FEEDBACK: BENEFITS & PITFALLS Introduction Employees usually want to receive feedback on their performance for certain
reasons such as for improving their performance. DeNisi & Kluger (2000) herald that it is widely accepted that feedback is an essential
component of an effective performance improvement strategy as individuals learn on the basis of receiving feedback on their performance.
Moreover, performance feedback increases job satisfaction and motivation among the employees (Hackman & Oldham, 1980). 360 degree
feedback is one of the tools used for providing feedback to employees. Commentators state that it is not an entirely new process and it has been in

McCauley & Moxley (1996) also agree on this point and state that it provides a comprehensive view about an individual as different group of
employees can observe an individual with regard to different perspectives. For instance, the supervisor can observe an employee only for a few hours
during which the employee is likely to be at his best behaviour but the peers can observe an employee throughout his work hours which helps in
getting a true picture of the employee's performance (Milliman & Zawacki, 1994). Thus, 360 degree feedback helps in enhancing self–awareness
in an individual. On the basis of the empirical study done by McCarthy and Garavan (1999), 360 degree feedback helps a person to be aware of
other people's expectations from him and the impact of his behaviour and actions on others. This is accommodated with the availability of an
opportunity to compare views of others with that of an individual's own opinions about himself on various aspects. This practice can be helpful in
revealing something new to the individual as opposed to his own thinking. A particular opinion might be held by a variety of persons evaluating the
same individual and in this way a

Cosmetic surgery has become increasingly more popular. However, many are unsatisfied with their results. Debra Dunn decided to have cosmetic
surgery to fix a bump she had on her nose as a result of a childhood injury. After having two nose jobs and spending thousands of dollars, she was so
dissatisfied with her results that she was embarrassed when she left the house and avoided mirrors. When she ventured out in public, she hid behind
her hair. Although doctors tried convincing her that her nose was lovely and others would kill for a nose like hers, she greatly regretted ruining the

In the case of Gabriel and others who suffer from accidents or problems in development, cosmetic surgery can change lives. However, the process is
long, the risks are very much present, and patients may have long recovery times. Risks of Cosmetic Surgery Although improving appearance through
cosmetic surgery seems optimistic, risks and possible complications are associated with cosmetic surgery. Patients' susceptibleness to these
complications vary but are certainly issues that should be taken into consideration. Many patients don't take into consideration the risks of cosmetic
surgery. Following a cosmetic procedure, patients may develop infection, disease or illnesses. Along with cosmetic surgery, complications such as:
"paralysis of the face or other body parts, abnormal heart rhythm, airway obstruction, blood clots, brain damage, heart attack, malignant hyperthermia,
nerve damage and stroke" are possible (Disadvantages). After surgery, patients may have to undergo a lengthy healing process. Healing takes days,
months, or even forever depending on the patient (Disadvantages). Are the risks and process really worth the desired outcome? Death Death results
from cosmetic surgery. Even though, death is rare patients need to be aware of this risk. Donda West, mother of rapper Kanye West, died following

Letting Your Competition Set Your Prices
Pricing your products is actually one of the hardest decisions for a new business owner to make. Make the prices too high and no one will want to
buy. Make the prices too low and you can't make a profit. Not knowing how to price products properly is a common challenge for new business
owner. And it is one that can make or break a company.
One business decided to let their competition set their prices. And it had the potential of driving the company into bankruptcy.
The owner based his products' prices on what he thought the market would bear. He looked at what his competitors were charging and set his prices
accordingly. So, if the competition is charging $100 for a thingamajig, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Let's say you're watching a baseball game on TV. You can see the number of runs each team has up on the scoreboard. That is the basic measure of
success or failure in the game. But it is not the only one. As a new batter approaches home base, the announcer talks about the player's statistics – RBIs,
batting average, and number of stolen bases. Those numbers tell you if the batter is All–Star material or about to be sent back to the minor leagues. The
team stats tell you how well they are doing this season.
After the game ends, you end up watching part of a cricket match, a sport about which you know absolutely nothing. The scoreboard for the game
shows the number of runs scored and the number of wickets lost. The announcer talks about each player's innings, not outs, centuries, overs, wides, and
strike rate. Yet, there is no information on the team's performance other than the scores.
Utterly confusing to someone not familiar with the game. Who is winning? Is that player one of the best or not? Is the team doing well this

There are variations, such as weighting fill rates by dollar volume. Yet these may not satisfy customers. A customer order usually involves
multiple line items. For example, a personal computer (PC) dealer may order printers, computers, accessories, and software in one order. As the
dealer is merely replenishing its own stock, which will be sold to end users, the supplier can ship individual items separately, depending on the
availability of these products, without adversely affecting the dealer's business. Line item fill rate would be a good indicator of customer service.
Other customers demand a single shipment of all items, such as customers who need service parts to complete a repair job. In these cases, it is
important to measure the fill rate in terms of completed orders. However, measuring order fill rates will not by itself diagnose operational problems.
For example, a workstation manufacturer fills orders of multiple products that come from different divisions, and customers demand to receive each
order in a single shipment. The manufacturer has merging centres where products are consolidated before they are shipped out. Overall order fill rate
is an appropriate performance measure, but measuring it will not help the firm identify which divisions are slowing down order completion.
Conventional fill rate measures also inadequately measure the degree of order lateness.

Logical Fallacies and Pitfalls in The Crucible In The Crucible, a Modern tragedy, Arthur Miller incorporates many logical fallacies including the post
hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. When Reverend John Hale, Giles Corey, and Francis Nurse visit John Proctor and his wife, they all explain how many
wives are being accused of witchcraft. Giles states that Walcott charged his wife, Martha Corey, on the terms of bewitching his pigs. He says that
Walcott bought one pig from his wife, and it died shortly after. He asked for his money back, but Martha refused, arguing that he will not live to own
many pigs if he doesn't know how to feed them properly. Giles concludes, "Now he goes to court and claims that from that day to this he cannot keep

During the first court proceedings, Proctor gives Danforth a document attesting the good opinions of Rebecca Nurse, Elizabeth Proctor, and Martha
Corey. Danforth explains that all ninety–one people who signed the testament must be summoned for questioning. He remarks that it is an attack on
the court. When Proctor becomes upset about bringing trouble upon those people, Danforth states, "But you must understand, sir, that a person is
either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between" (Miller 87). The logical device functions in the scene to create a
sense of hopelessness. Since there are only two outcomes in the minds of the court officials, they rush to conclusions. The girls' influence on the court
officials puts the decisions in their favor, leading the villagers to either confess to witchcraft or be hanged. Danforth's statement is one that guides the
rest of the novel. The idea that one must either be with the court or against it leads to all of the problems in Salem. The forced choice from two
alternatives creates tension, fear, and false accusations in the community. The corrupt court makes rash decisions using this reasoning. Therefore, the
fallacy of the false alternative adds to the development of the play as a whole by creating a sense of hopelessness and despair for the truthful villagers in

This would ultimately increase the national standard of living because the taxpayer dollars currently spent on prisons would be lessened substantially
and those taxpayer dollars could be used on more pressing issues, such as making postsecondary education cheaper, or at least more accessible.
Granted, this is in an ideal world, which we do not live in, however, it is reasonable to expect that capital punishment could be embraced to the point of
becoming at least marginally more efficient than life in prison without parole and thus ultimately improve our country as a whole. In further attempting
to promote the more widespread use of capital punishment as a primary form of punishment in the United States as well as other candidate countries,
surfaces the idea that capital punishment is more humane than life in prison without parole. By definition humane is having or showing compassion or
benevolence. By that definition the argument that capital punishment is more humane than life in prison without parole holds a reasonably high
amount of merit. This is, of course, based on several variables and, as such, varies greatly on a case–by–case basis. Generally speaking, however,
capital punishment itself is swift and ultimately painless, and as such is very humane in its current state. Imprisonment,

inappropriate self–disclosure. Next, watch the video Pitfalls: Inappropriate Self–Disclosure: Clip 1 with Nicole and her client, Mrs. Anderson, to see an
example of a social worker 's inappropriate self–disclosure. The pitfalls with inappropriate self–disclosure is it makes the client think you are a friend
versus the professional social worker which can hurt the helping process. In addition, providing general information about yourself can be helpful,
however, discussing your life experiences can be distracting even in areas of commonality. Furthermore, this can make the client feel uncomfortable
and hurt the relationship before it even began. Cautions about Self Disclosure: "The client may perceive the social worker as a friend and expect
mutuality in the relationship" (Cummins et al., 2012, p.131). "The client may feel compelled to help the social worker" (Cummins et al., 2012,
p.131). "The client may feel as if the social worker can't help, because the social worker's own life issues are so distracting" (Cummins et al., 2012,
p.131). "The client may use the information shared by the social worker in a self–serving or manipulative way" (Cummins et al., 2012, p.131). "The
client may react negatively and feel cheated out of his or her opportunity to disclose" (Cummins et al., 2012, p.131). At one point, Nicole

What Are The Pitfalls Of Judicial Oversight
Class, Good evening to all. I hope all is well this week. As many of you have stated, I thought I had a descent grasp of the United States Intelligence
oversight. However, to my surprise I found that I actually did not have as good of an understanding as I thought. My shortcoming was in
understanding just how convoluted the system is. The system has evolved over the years just as many things do. However, the system still has a long
way to go before it's as effective as it could be. Former Under Secretary Charles Allen noted that "virtually any terrorist attack on the homeland that one
can imagine must exploit a border crossing, a port of entry, a critical infrastructure, or one of the other domains that the department has an obligation to

Intelligence Oversights greatest shortfall that I see is how that throughout history there has never really been a dedicated committee focuses its sole
efforts on Intelligence oversight, it has usually been an additional role or responsibility and just like my additional roles and responsibilities within my
job, they take second and possibly third in priorities. The different Oversight Committees include the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978,
Intelligence Oversight Act in 1980, Legislative Oversight, and the Congressional Oversight. Congress built upon the reforms of the 1970s by passing
the Intelligence Oversight Act in 1980. This Act was an amendment to the Hughes–Ryan Act and obligated the IC to report covert actions to both the
SSCI and the HPSCI prior to their implementation, unlike the ambiguous previous requirement of a timely manner. The Intelligence Oversight Act
was noteworthy in that it constrained the intelligence community more than any previous legislation (Riley 2010). The two biggest shortfalls I see to
the system is the number of contributors there are to the system on such a large scale. When I think about all of the redundancy built within the
system, I think about all of the possible breakdown in communications that could take place. The second shortfall I see is the legislative leverage that
is held over the Intelligence community. I personally believe this to be a mistake because this power could be held in a negative manner and to gain a
political stance or agenda. The Congress can withhold money and resources, can leak information to the media and which could cause a mission or
operation to

People Should Be Allowed To Keep Pitfalls As Pets
Did you ever think pit bulls were so dangerous that people would want to ban them? Many people have seen or hear of pit bulls. Some people choose
to have them as pets. This issue has been very problematic. The state should not ban on ownership of pit bulls are pets.
Pit bulls can show American pride. For example the blog, Source 3 says that "Pit bulls remained popular during the 1950's and 60's. Many companies
used pit bulls as mascots in advertising." This shows that pitfalls where very popular before they got there bad reputation. This is important because it
shows that pitfalls haven't always been hated. Therefore people should be allowed to keep pitfalls as pets. The pit bull is a popular dog and many
famous people own them. In addition, Source 2 states that "Mark Buehrle of the Marlins, relocated to Broward County in order to keep his family's

can help people see that pit bulls are friendly and good. As you can see pit bulls are not harmless pets.

Pitfalls Of Pride Quotes
Pitfalls of Pride The grandma applies the mark "good" unpredictably, obscuring the meaning of a decent man until the name loses its importance
totally. She first applies it to Red Sammy after he furiously whines of the general deceitfulness of individuals. He asks her for what valid reason he let
two outsiders charge their fuel–he's clearly been cheated–and the grandma says he did it since he's a great man. For this situation, her meaning of
"good" appears to incorporate artlessness, misguided thinking, and visually impaired confidence, none of which are characteristically "great." She next
applies the mark "great" to the Oddball. After she remembers him, she asks him whether he'd shoot a woman, in spite of the fact that he never says that
he wouldn't. Since being a woman is such a huge part of what the grandma considers moral, the Oddball's answer demonstrates that he doesn't stick to

Leaders Who Fall For The Pitfalls Of Leadership
Leaders Who Fall to the Pitfalls of Leadership
Leaders that are successful in today's business environment must understand that success does not happen overnight. The process is long and
sometimes very time consuming, making the percentage of successful leaders very small. When planning an important group to take into account is
human resource. Having the trust and buy in from the line staff is critical to the overall success as a leader. We have all had that leader that seems to
only be number or result driven, that only makes decisions based on what is best for the bottom line. Usually these leaders have high turnover and do
not last as long as the employees that are able to stick around through their tenure. In this paper I will provide examples of leaders that have fell into
these six pitfalls, how it affected the team and what they could have done differently.
Six Pitfalls
Catherine Comaford (2013) presented 6 pitfalls that lead to employees not feeling valued. These pitfalls are, failing to respond to employees emails,
failing to provide feedback, acknowledging people only when they make mistakes, failing to celebrate victories, showing favoritism and burning out
employees. I have served in the United States Navy for 25 years and worked in different levels of leadership at a plasma company for 15 years. I have
come across many leaders that have fallen into one or multiple of these pitfalls. Having had the knowledge and understanding of these pitfalls, maybe

Conceited Judgment and the Pitfall of Pride
In both of Flannery O' Connor's short stories "A Good Man is Hard to Find" and "Good Country People," there is a central theme about the negative
effects of trusting one's own judgment too readily, as well as using religion to manipulate people. It is easy to see multiple connections to this theme in
the two short stories, although the specific events themselves are different. For instance, Hulga from "Good Country People" believes her intelligence
allows her to see people's true character, but she is ultimately left alone full of despair when her faith in herself and her leg is ironically taken away. In
the same way, the unnamed grandmother in "A Good Man is Hard to Find" feels her morals and experience in life allow her to judge other characters
without fault. Therefore, the two short stories are similar to each other because the plots, characters, and misuses of religion reflect the central theme of
trust and manipulation. Although the details of these two stories differ in many aspects, they share a similar plot that follows a theme about people
trusting their own judgments too easily. In "Good Country People," Hulga meets a Bible salesman, Manly Pointer, who seems to have an innocent
aura around him. He bored Mrs. Hopewell, Hulga's mother, but she "couldn't be rude to him. He was just good country people, you know" (Good
Country 445). However, her personal view of him is tragically incorrect. Pointer persuades Hulga to go on a date with him, inviting Hulga out

Benefits and Pitfalls of Short-selling Shares
Benefits and pitfall of short–selling
Short selling is the borrowing of shares in companies whose market value is believed to go down. The sellers gain profit when they buy back the
shares at a lower price (Investopedia, n.d.). The benefits of short–selling include facilitating market efficience, driving down overprice shares,
increasing liquidity of stock markets and exposing financial fraud. The CFA Institute believes thatshort–selling enables "participants to quickly and
accurately adjust securities prices to reflect investor opinions about valuations" (Smith, 2012), hence improving marketing efficiency. It also shortens
the time taken to discover corporate misconduct and predict firms who will be involved in financial misconduct (Foster, 2009).
However, short–selling has its limitation as well. Firstly, it has detrimental effect which weakens investors' confidence in financial markets. It gives rise
to short–term market volatility and cause severe damage to investors' confidence when share prices decline. Secondly, there is an unlimited risk
involved as there is no limit to the amount of money the short–seller can lose, the price of the share can increase forever (IG, n.d.). Lastly, the
companies involved would need to preserve their reputation and pay for the negative publicity with higher funding costs (Smith, 2012).

may have some advantages and disadvantages as most new technologies do, and some of these advantages and disadvantages can be seen on online
assignment submission, online social networking and online news sites.
Pete Bridge and Rob Appleyard (2005), senior lecturers in radiotherapy and oncology at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, compared the way
that paper–based assignments are submitted with the online equivalent within the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in a study. 47 first year
undergraduate radiotherapy physics students were the volunteers, and surveys were used to gather their submission and receiving feedback experience.
The same group of students was required to compare their online submission perception with another assignment submission, which was a paper–based
assignment. Students were asked to compare the quality of the submission process based on ease of compilation (Bridge & Appleyard, 2005).
The results indicated some positive and negative sides of using the internet to submit assignments. 88% of the students reported that online assignment
submission can help the save time, and many said they found it financially beneficial. In addition, 93% of students preferred receiving their
feedback online rather than "printed and handed to them" (Bridge & Appleyard, 2005).

Purpose, Advantages And Pitfalls Of Costing Techniques
3.Purpose, advantages and pitfalls of costing techniques
As alluded in the introduction, the role and effective use of costing techniques may vary depending on a certain number of contextual variables and
objectives. This section explores these variables and thus provides a critical assessment of the roles and uses of the techniques.
Economic rationale
From a public sector economic rational point of view, Bergman (2009) argues that marginal costing is superior to absorption costing to the extent that
a public entity has access to tax revenues (i.e. subsidies) to cover for a large part of its fixed costs. This argument has resonance in sectors such as
education or health. In France, where higher education is entirely subsidized, a debate has been launched by a new fee structure in a university where
students are asked to contribute to their tuition. The rational is that education has both a public benefit (a more educated and thus productive society)
and a private benefit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Interestingly, the spread of New Public Management (NPM) in administrations (whereby the entrepreneurial behavior of managers has been favored, as
well as the introduction of more market–based /private sector features in the public sector) has favored more decentralized systems where managers
have an increase say over overheads. For instance, international organisations such as the World Bank have increased their field presence by opening
country offices. Through effective decentralization, office managers have gained increasing control over overheads – ranging from decision on rents to

Pitfalls in Evaluating Risky Projects
James E. Hodder and Henry E. Riggs
In recent years, the leaders of American companies have been barraged with attacks on their investment policies. Critics accuse American executives of
shortsightedness and point out that managers in Japan and Europe often fix their vision on more dis¬tant horizons. Here, it is claimed, managers pay
too much attention to quarterly earnings reports and not enough to such basic elements of industrial strength as research and development. Some
analysts see the root of this problem in the tendency of American companies to rely on discounted cash flow techВ¬niques in weighing long–term

An R&D Project, for Example
Although the comments here apply to a variety of investment proposals, we shall illustrate these three major pitfalls with the analysis of an R&D
project. [Exhibit I lists examples of other investment projects that are frequently misevaluated for the reasons de¬scribed in this article.) Because of
their risk charac¬teristics, R&D projects present some especially thorny problems. The pronounced uncertainties in these projects affect the analysis
of risk in many ways. As a result, R&D projects with acceptable– even exciting–risk/return profiles may fail to meet the payoff criteria that
management has established.
Let 's look at a typical (hypothetical) project that would be rejected on the basis of the incomplete DCF analysis common in industry today. Then we

Benefits and Potential Pitfalls of Predictive Analytics
In the increasingly competitive global business environment, each organization needs to take advantage of every tool, opportunity, and advantage it
can to achieve the best products and services, to gain and maintain market share, and keep stakeholders happy from investors and workers to supply
chain and customers. The advance of data analysis has opened up new vistas to support decision making. Decision support systems (Sauter, 2010)
have emerged that process various forms of data to build outcome models. These have been adopted in every segment of society, in the private and
public sector, from political campaigns and the military to corporations and nonprofits alike. As a whole, the new set of tools involving the strategic
use of data is called business intelligence. Within that general framework, the term analytics refers to the statistical, quantitative use of data to produce
explanatory and predictive models for fact–based decision making. (Sauter, 2010).
Predictive Analytics in Practice (Harvard Business Review, 2014) explores some intriguing questions regarding this new technology in its various short

Examples Of Fallacies And Pitfalls In The Crucible
Logical Fallacies and Pitfalls of The Crucible Throughout The Crucible, Arthur Miller uses many logical fallacies and pitfalls to describe characters
and delve deeper into a character's motives. One such example is found in hasty generalization, which is present in the play. During the first scene of
the play, the community is torn over the cause of a "sickness" that has afflicted two young girls. One of the girls is the daughter of Revered Parris,
and the other the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Putnam. Both girls express similar symptoms; they are unresponsive, unable to move out of bed. Part of
the town begins to worry that the girls have become overcome by darkness, although others are unwilling to accept this explanation. Revered Parris,
who observed a group of girls... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mrs. Putnam describes her daughter, Ruth's, condition, explaining, "'She ails as she must–she never waked this morning, but her eyes open and she
walks, and hears naught, sees naught, and cannot eat. Her soul is taken, surely'" (Miller 13). Mrs. Putnam makes a hasty generalization of the
situation. She jumps to the conclusion that her daughter's soul is taken by the Devil, with only minimal evidence to support her claim. Instead of
waiting for the "sickness" to fix itself, the Putnams assess the situation, and within hours, believe they know exactly what is wrong with their daughter.
The device also factors into the development of the play as a whole. There could have been many causes for the "sickness," including a contagious
disease spreading through Salem, or the stubbornness of two girls faking an illness. By introducing the idea of the Devil into the situation, Mrs.
Putnam creates an uneasiness that impacts each person in the town. People become more suspicious of one another, and begin to betray their
neighbors. Townspeople, who are normally God–fearing, respected men and women, observe irrelevant and trivial things about other people, and then

their extreme commitment to their sport. High school athletes often over–exert themselves in preparation for their sports. In addition to the in–season
commitment of hours of practice daily in addition to games, the off–season is often more demanding. There are countless hours of preparations such as
conditioning and weight–training. These often take the same amount of time as the in season games and practices, if not more. There are also other

The Pitfalls Of Creative Destruction
Pitfalls of Creative Destruction
Strong standing businesses have a definite answer to the five fundamental questions introduced in chapter two: what will be produced, how it will be
made, who will get the goods, how to accommodate to change, and how to promote progress. However, outdated businesses start to collapse, suffer
losses, and even close down when rival firms introduce cutting–edge innovations. This is the result of creative destruction: new products and production
methods replace or rather destroy obsolete goods (McConnell et al 37). Creative destruction benefits the consumers because the new products make
their lives easier and economic evidence shows that old firms should learn the newest technologies. On a microeconomic basis, ... Show more content

From then on, Netflix seemed to be increasing while Blockbuster continued to decrease because Netflix was stealing Blockbuster's consumer market.
Figure 2 displays Netflix's and Blockbuster's revenue, where initially Blockbuster's revenue was way greater than Netflix's revenue. While Netflix
made a steady rate of income, Blockbuster had steady losses and eventually a great drop in income, which lead to bankruptcy. Economically speaking,
Blockbuster had to shut down because its marginal revenue was lower than its average total costs. Every time the business sold their product, it made
losses because the revenue never covered its cost of operating and production costs. Among the five fundamental questions discussed in chapter two,
how a product will be produced is vital. Firms want to minimize the cost of making an output. Thus, Blockbuster used efficient ways to produce its

Pitfalls Of Torture Essay
Torture is one of the most extreme methods of eliciting information; unfortunately, it has been used for centuries and is still prevalent worldwide.
Thesis: Counterterrorism through interrogation is wrong and leads to false information.
Scientific Perspective
In 2006 the Intelligence Science Board, a civilian board that advises the U.S. Department of Defense on technical and scientific matters, stated that
there was information to support the declaration that torture produces reliable information. Shane O'Mara, a neurobiologist associated with Trinity
College in Dublin, analyzed the interrogation methods of the Bush administration. O'Mara refers to such techniques as "folk psychology," and "are

Another serious pitfall of torture is confabulation (false memories), a resultant of the damage to the prefrontal cortex. A 2008 study showed that pain
and stress retreat further into a murky situation where the detainee cannot tell truth from false knowledge. O'Mara argues that prolonged and sever
stress does not support memory in the brain as stated by some. Coercive interrogations are unlikely to facilitate "the release of veridical information
from long–term memory." Indeed, torture provides the interrogator with false and unreliable information.
Unreliable Information
The act of torture can be traced back to the early history of man and the questionable validity of information extracted goes back as far. The third
century Roman Jurist, Ulpian, wrote that information obtained via torture should not be trusted as some people are "so susceptible to pain that they
will tell any lie rather than suffer it" (Peters, 1996). Nearly two millennia later, the discussion continues and the evidence more and more supports
Ulpian's assertion. Most torture victims will "confess" to any accusation if it will stop the pain. Although there are occasions where accurate
information may be disclosed under duress, numerous victims have reveled that the truthful information that they did revel was interspersed with
fictitious information to appease the interrogators to stop the pain (Conroy 2000). Studies have disclosed that as

Interviewing Pitfalls

 • 1. Interviewing Pitfalls Pitfalls in Interviewing Name Institution Pitfalls in Interviewing Victims of various crimes are usually from diverse backgrounds regarding their cultural beliefs, physical abilities, and disabilities as well language among other factors. Therefore, as an interviewer, one should consider all the factors to ensure that the interviewing process goes on smoothly. It is also the role of the interviewer to make sure that even though the factors are considered, there is the least bias in the process to ensure that the prosecution gets the facts right rather than based on the interviewer's perception (Thakkar, Jaffe & Vander Linden, 2015). Cultural differences and physical disabilities are some of the most common hindrances of communication during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sex of the interviewee is one of the factors. In some cultures, the interviewer may have problems questioning a victim of the opposite sex. Also, young interviewers may be perceived as disrespectful when trying to interview older individuals, especially when they question the information given by the victim. Also, people of some cultures do not like making eye contact when communicating, therefore making their answering of issues ineffective to prosecute the defender. For instance, in cultures such as the Native Americans and Asians among others, not looking directly into someone's eyes is perceived as respecting the person. Also, some of the interviewees may not respond respectfully because of stereotypical perceptions concerning the culture of the interviewer. For instance, a racist interviewee may not like being interviewed by a person from a race that they see as lesser than theirs. Also, language is part of the culture, and there may arise language barrier between the interviewer and their interviewee in case they do not clearly understand each other (Thakkar, Jaffe & Vander Linden, 2015). Therefore, to ensure that the effects of culture are minimized, the interviewer should make sure that they avoid negativity such as stereotyping and generalizing. It is also important to avoid shouting to make the process successful. Otherwise, if the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 2. Oil vs. Green Technology: Pitfalls and Promises Oil versus green technology: Pitfalls and promises The need to maintain access to crude oil supplies has long been used to justify many US policies, such as our relatively conciliatory attitude towards autocratic Middle Eastern nations that we would otherwise abhor. However, authors such as Thomas Friedman have begun to question this conventional wisdom. Friedman has suggested that American dependence upon oil has become a self–fulfilling prophesy, and stymied our ability to lessen our dependency on fossil fuels. Remaining addicted to oil is bad for the US politically as well as bad for the environment. "Eight of the top nine oil exporters are dictatorships or autocratic kingdoms" (Fischetti 2011). Other nations, including China, understand this reality and so must the US. Our dependence on oil renders us politically vulnerable. "Oil prices are global, and as Woolsey points out, the US has no domestic leverage. Greatly increasing our own offshore oil drilling could lower imports a little, but it won't lower world prices; it is too easy for OPEC to manipulate production to offset the effects of any new US supply" (Fischetti 2011). The world's biodiversity is threatened because of the developed world's addiction to oil (Friedman 2008: 141). Major investments in green technology are the only way to alter this state of affairs. To create incentives to get off oil, Friedman has suggested a $1–a–gallon gasoline tax. According to Friedman, gas prices are slowly and steadily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 3. Cultural And Societal Influence On Adolescents Different types of environments change the way technology is used by society. The belief system surrounding technology relies on "everything from religion and spirituality to gender, sexuality, work ethics, and politics. The range of attitudes that a culture embraces on a particular topic affects the beliefs, lifestyles, and perceptions of their adolescents. They both can have both positive and negative impacts on adolescents' development." (Cultural and Societal Influences on Adolescent Development). Particularly, living in a rural area, on a farm greatly shifted my perspective ofelectronics: respecting them more, allowing me the ability to scrutinize this "superficial [world]" (Stewart); this environment can be stated for many adolescents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stewart explained that kids who can recognize their regret for being on electronics have the ability to regain their lost skills, such as time management and denial. Dr. Stewart dismissed that technology was not addictive: "Technology is a drug... it makes you feel as if you lost your sense of things." As adolescents mature, they become less active in their family if they are influenced by technology, whereas if not influenced by technology they would be more active in family affairs. She notes my "personal" experience and maturation with electronics; because of my "rural upcoming" and "care for nature" electronics have less of an impact on myself. "Electronics were just another hobby" that one of her kids had. This hobby of building computers for peers, fixing electronics around the house, advising strangers how to troubleshoot and fix their problem accordingly, even finding expertise in becoming anonymous across the internet has affected siblings, parents, friends, and strangers. Nevertheless, there are severe downfalls to this hobby. Just as professional sports players spend the majority of their time training and playing, I experiment with various electronic devices and research them. If one considers a passion for any activity healthy then my passion should subsequently be considered healthy. Any one event while using electronics i.e. a laptop, can set one up for aliment, as it modifies how they interact and socialize with others. It also shows how they would ... • 4. Avoiding The Pitfalls Of The Unauthorized Practice Of Law, Avoiding the pitfalls of the unauthorized practice of law, also known as UPL, is one of the most important duties that all legal professionals or aspiring law students should learn and integrate into their law career, in order to maintain impeccable ethics and conduct at all times. Clear rules and regulations must be followed in regards to the unauthorized practice of law. Thus, in order to avoid the unauthorized practice of law, one must first know what it is by definition and how it pertains to their best practices and due diligence. Furthermore, the violations of one's failure to comply with the rules and regulations for UPL, may be costly in more ways than one. Nevertheless, anyone pursuing a legal degree, would to themselves a great deal of justice by learning and understanding what role they are to take within the legal industry and implement the definition of UPL. If one does not steer clear of this violation, it could be a "career–ender" (Denckla) The role a paralegal has in a law firm is a vital. These professionals are highly valued for the abilities they contribute in the area of knowing the law, legal research and how it applies to a client's case. Furthermore, paralegals also as assist their Attorneys on a variety of tasks pertaining to a law related matters. Regardless, no matter how knowledgeable the paralegal may be; they are always required to work under the direct supervision of an attorney. There are very little exceptions for paralegals to work in the law field, unsupervised. Even in these exceptions, It is still possible for a professional paralegal, under the supervision of an attorney or not, to still commit UPL (California Legislative Information Business and Professions Code). Regardless if a paralegal knows the answer to a client's legal question, they must never give that client any advice or direction for applying case law recommendations and remedies to the client's legal question. • 5. The Leadership Pitfalls Of Leadership Leaders Who Fall to the Pitfalls of Leadership When an employee of an organization feels their performance and achievements do not matter, that organization may ultimately suffer. Genuinely recognizing the value of your employees will help stop a leader from falling into the pitfalls of leadership, and having their employees enter into a dimension known as the 'critter state". An employee that falls into this state is known to have their ideas and skills fall short while they focus on a single question: "What will keep me safe?" (Comaford C., 2013). Below, I will explore the leadership pitfalls and how to possibly avoid them. Pitfall Number 1: Failing to Respond to Employee Emails I can recall a situation at a former employer, where I sent an email to my supervisor asking for the following day off from work. I sent the email early in the morning to give my employer enough time to consider my request. By mid–afternoon, I did not have a response. My supervisor was busier than usual that day, but I sent her another email incase she forgot to reply. I still had no response by the end of the day. I finally approached her and asked if she had a chance to read my email. She then told me she could not approve my request because our office would be short–staffed. I understood the reason but did not understand why she did not respond to my email. I left work that day feeling I was not important enough for her to respond to my email. A simple and quick reply would have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 6. Pitfalls Of Conservatism The Republican elites have certainly surrendered to their nominee. They enjoy citing the "lesser of two evils", in which the problems that Trump brings to the table are not as serious as the certain destruction that Hillary would bring if she was elected. Another emerging sentiment is that conservatism, in its current ideological form, is no longer relevant in modern political discourse. Traditional Reagan–era conservatism had its day, and it failed, so why not a new strategy, led by a potential despot who is at least promising to attack the status–quo. In this section, I will just be focusing on how the bastardized version of conservatism that Donald Trump is preaching is becoming, and will eventually lead to a complete disaster if left unchecked. There will be no victory for true conservatives here, and if their movement truly converts to Trumpism, they will lose a generation of voters. This election is not even close, and that is not because of disaffected conservatives. It is because Donald Trump is a horrible joke of a candidate. Currently, he is sitting at about 7 percent for those under age 30. These polls show that the youth population prefers not only Hillary, but the other two fringe candidates over Trump. He's running at less than .5 percent among African American voters, and not even on par with Mitt Romney among white non–educated voters. Since the first debate, he is trailing in almost all the key battleground states. If polls remain close to what they are showing currently, he's not just going to lose, he will have been demolished on a historic level. Republicans in Congress will pay the price for backing him, and having to answer questions justifying their decisions day after day. All this is to defend a candidate who has shown no allegiance ... Strategic Planning : Pitfalls And Implementation Strategic Planning – Pitfalls in Implementation By Robert W Bradford | Submitted On June 03, 2007 Recommend Article Article Comments Print Article Share this article on Facebook 1 Share this article on Twitter Share this article on Google+ Share this article on Linkedin Share this article on StumbleUpon Share this article on Delicious Share this article on Digg Share this article on Reddit Share this article on Pinterest Expert Author Robert W Bradford In our strategic planning work, we often work with companies who have tried strategic planning before. Almost inevitably, the companies we meet were disappointed in the results they got before using Simplified Strategic Planning. While some of these disappointments can be attributed to poor strategy or process issues, many – perhaps a third – were disappointed because the plan failed to lead to good implementation of the strategy. This is a shame, because your management team puts some of its best thinking into your strategic plans. Often, the team is quite excited about the vision portrayed by your strategies. So, how is it that strategic plans are so often poorly implemented? In our experience, there are five main root causes of poor implementation. Some of these are very closely linked to each other – that is, it 's common to see pairs of this issue operating in tandem. But, ultimately, each of these items, by itself, can torpedo your strategy implementation: 1. The plan is not linked to implementation 2. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 8. Pitfalls Of Being On A Team Being on a team has its perks and its downfalls for everyone. For example being apart of a team will help you cooperate with others, and understand what it's like to win and/or lose together as a whole. An example of a downfall for participating in a team is if you or another player makes a mistake the whole team has to pay for it and make up for a mistake that only one person made. As said before being on a team has its ups and downs and these factors may make it difficult or possibly easy for people to chose whether or not to engage in team activities such as sports or drama. Being on a team helps people grow mentally, physically, and socially. Participating in team exercises helps people mature mentally and helps improve communication skills. It does this by simply talking to others. Engaging in teams has been proven to help people see different perspectives and understand what others are going through even if you may not have gone through the same events. Performing in a team helps improve you physically as well as mentally. An example of this is with teams such as sports. With sports people are exercising while still working together. Even with non... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For many engaging in a team takes too much time and energy to really commit to. Especially for kids who should be focusing on school work along with their family and friends, but by adding a sport or any activity could offset that person's balance and send them over board. Another reason that being on a team is bad is it's unfair to many people. Yes, in activities some are going to be better than others, but in many cases the others aren't given an opportunity to prove themselves and unfortunately this is the case for many people and students. Participating in a club can also be very expensive. Some people aren't able to even afford the fee to get into the activity, and not to forget all of the equipment that comes with ... • 9. The Pitfalls Of Plastic Surgery Summary In "The Pitfalls of Plastic Surgery," by Camille Paglia, she argues that American surgeons are being too narrow minded with their work because they use the same models as a representation of what their clients can look like. She suggests that getting plastic surgery has become such a normal thing in America and that society pushes women to get work done in order to get that "perfect" look. Paglia also points out that plastic surgery has "leveled the playing field" with wives and their husbands mistresses (694). Also, she believes that plastic surgery is not only critical in keeping a job, but also in keeping a relationship. Although I agree with some of Paglia's arguments, I view some of the issues differently such as, needing plastic surgery to keep a marriage, that plastic surgery is for non intellectuals, that Hollywood's environment encourages women to change their looks, and that nothing good can come out of plastic surgery. Over time, many wives would have to compete with younger women that had a better physical appearance than them, thus, causing many wives to get plastic surgery so they would not lose their husband to younger women. Paglia criticizes the idea of women getting plastic surgery in order to keep their husbands when saying, "In the post 1960s culture of easy divorce on demand, middle–aged women have found themselves competing with nubile women in their 20s, who are being scooped up as trophy second wives by ambitious men having a midlife crisis. Approximately one million people living in Canada identify as Muslim, making it one of the largest minority groups within Canada. Internationally, Canada can be identified as a multicultural country, known for its diversity of population and for its policies which enforce toleration for those living within Canada. The film Sharia in Canada – The Pitfalls of Diversity explores the debates around allowing for Sharia law to exist as a legitimate law form within Canada. This is a point of contention throughout various groups of people in Canada. In the 1990s, the idea to first introduce sharia law in Canadian society was presented. The challenges which have emerged include the problem of how to properly categorize minorities, the problem of conditions and sequencing, and the relationship between justice and security, (Kymlicka, 2013, pp. 8–9). Examining the relationship between justice and security, the question of to what extent should minority rights be preserved, and what risks are worth taking is brought forward, (Kymlicka, 2013, p. 9). • 11. The Pitfalls of American Interventionism Essay The United States has been feeling the effects of Middle Eastern terrorism since June 5th, 1968, when Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian acting alone, shot and killed Senator Robert F. Kennedy in response to some pro–Israeli statements he made (Eland 10). United States support for the newly formed Israel had garnered a lot of hatred from native Palestinians, and Sirhan's attack marked the beginning of anti–American sentiment in the region. Starting with President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the United States had been interfering in the Middle East, using Iran as a base for anti–Soviet operations. Over the years, U.S relations with the Middle East soured, leading CIA–trained operatives to form terrorist organizations. President George H. W. Bush... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As for economic downturn, the lack of regulation and the failures of banks were both caused by the Gulf Wars. The United States government was too focused upon military conflict outside of its borders to pay attention to the loopholes that banks were using to make unwise lending decisions. The Gulf Wars had a large economic impact on the United States and was the primary cause of the economic downturn during both Bush administrations. American intervention in the Middle East drove up gas prices to an all–time high, resulting in billions of dollars lost. As Peter Katel said, "In the week that the [First Gulf War] started, the average world oil price was about $27 a barrel...[later oil prices] were pushed up to prices upwards of $116 a barrel." (5). The money lost due to this alone ranged in the hundreds of billions of dollars lost. As a result, the American economy took a staggering blow, and was later felled by the economic cost of the war itself. The global increase in oil prices caused inflation, leading to a massive increase in cost of living expenses. But, the American intervention in the Middle East included larger and far more devastating expenses as well. For the first Gulf War, a war that lasted a little over a hundred days cost upwards of $260 billion dollars ("Calculating" 6). The second Gulf War, or theIraq War, was far more costly, as ... DeNisi & Kluger (2000) herald that it is widely accepted that feedback is an essential component of an effective performance improvement strategy as individuals learn on the basis of receiving feedback on their performance. Moreover, performance feedback increases job satisfaction and motivation among the employees (Hackman & Oldham, 1980). 360 degree feedback is one of the tools used for providing feedback to employees. Commentators state that it is not an entirely new process and it has been in organizations in one form or the other from a long... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCauley & Moxley (1996) also agree on this point and state that it provides a comprehensive view about an individual as different group of employees can observe an individual with regard to different perspectives. For instance, the supervisor can observe an employee only for a few hours during which the employee is likely to be at his best behaviour but the peers can observe an employee throughout his work hours which helps in getting a true picture of the employee's performance (Milliman & Zawacki, 1994). Thus, 360 degree feedback helps in enhancing self–awareness in an individual. On the basis of the empirical study done by McCarthy and Garavan (1999), 360 degree feedback helps a person to be aware of other people's expectations from him and the impact of his behaviour and actions on others. This is accommodated with the availability of an opportunity to compare views of others with that of an individual's own opinions about himself on various aspects. Debra Dunn decided to have cosmetic surgery to fix a bump she had on her nose as a result of a childhood injury. After having two nose jobs and spending thousands of dollars, she was so dissatisfied with her results that she was embarrassed when she left the house and avoided mirrors. When she ventured out in public, she hid behind her hair. Although doctors tried convincing her that her nose was lovely and others would kill for a nose like hers, she greatly regretted ruining the face she was born with. You, as a business owner, need to understand what the data on each report means and how it affects your operations. Let's say you're watching a baseball game on TV. You can see the number of runs each team has up on the scoreboard. That is the basic measure of success or failure in the game. But it is not the only one. As a new batter approaches home base, the announcer talks about the player's statistics – RBIs, batting average, and number of stolen bases. Those numbers tell you if the batter is All–Star material or about to be sent back to the minor leagues. The team stats tell you how well they are doing this season. After the game ends, you end up watching part of a cricket match, a sport about which you know absolutely nothing. The scoreboard for the game shows the number of runs scored and the number of wickets lost. The announcer talks about each player's innings, not outs, centuries, overs, wides, and strike rate. Yet, there is no information on the team's performance other than the scores. Utterly confusing to someone not familiar with the game. Who is winning? Is that player one of the best or not? Is the team doing well this

The simplest network consists of one site that performs both manufacturing and distribution. There are variations, such as weighting fill rates by dollar volume. Yet these may not satisfy customers. A customer order usually involves multiple line items. For example, a personal computer (PC) dealer may order printers, computers, accessories, and software in one order. As the dealer is merely replenishing its own stock, which will be sold to end users, the supplier can ship individual items separately, depending on the availability of these products, without adversely affecting the dealer's business. Line item fill rate would be a good indicator of customer service. Other customers demand a single shipment of all items, such as customers who need service parts to complete a repair job. In these cases, it is important to measure the fill rate in terms of completed orders. However, measuring order fill rates will not by itself diagnose operational problems. For example, a workstation manufacturer fills orders of multiple products that come from different divisions, and customers demand to receive each order in a single shipment. The manufacturer has merging centres where products are consolidated before they are shipped out. Overall order fill rate is an appropriate performance measure, but measuring it will not help the firm identify which divisions are slowing down order completion. Conventional fill rate measures also inadequately measure the degree of order lateness. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Logical Fallacies and Pitfalls in The Crucible In The Crucible, a Modern tragedy, Arthur Miller incorporates many logical fallacies including the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. When Reverend John Hale, Giles Corey, and Francis Nurse visit John Proctor and his wife, they all explain how many wives are being accused of witchcraft. Giles states that Walcott charged his wife, Martha Corey, on the terms of bewitching his pigs. He says that Walcott bought one pig from his wife, and it died shortly after. He asked for his money back, but Martha refused, arguing that he will not live to own many pigs if he doesn't know how to feed them properly. During the first court proceedings, Proctor gives Danforth a document attesting the good opinions of Rebecca Nurse, Elizabeth Proctor, and Martha Corey. Danforth explains that all ninety–one people who signed the testament must be summoned for questioning. He remarks that it is an attack on the court. When Proctor becomes upset about bringing trouble upon those people, Danforth states, "But you must understand, sir, that a person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between" (Miller 87). The logical device functions in the scene to create a sense of hopelessness. Since there are only two outcomes in the minds of the court officials, they rush to conclusions. The girls' influence on the court officials puts the decisions in their favor, leading the villagers to either confess to witchcraft or be hanged. Danforth's statement is one that guides the rest of the novel. The idea that one must either be with the court or against it leads to all of the problems in Salem. The forced choice from two alternatives creates tension, fear, and false accusations in the community. The corrupt court makes rash decisions using this reasoning. Therefore, the fallacy of the false alternative adds to the development of the play as a whole by creating a sense of hopelessness and despair for the truthful villagers in ... As many of you have stated, I thought I had a descent grasp of the United States Intelligence oversight. However, to my surprise I found that I actually did not have as good of an understanding as I thought. My shortcoming was in understanding just how convoluted the system is. The system has evolved over the years just as many things do. However, the system still has a long way to go before it's as effective as it could be. Intelligence Oversights greatest shortfall that I see is how that throughout history there has never really been a dedicated committee focuses its sole efforts on Intelligence oversight, it has usually been an additional role or responsibility and just like my additional roles and responsibilities within my job, they take second and possibly third in priorities. The different Oversight Committees include the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978, Intelligence Oversight Act in 1980, Legislative Oversight, and the Congressional Oversight. Congress built upon the reforms of the 1970s by passing the Intelligence Oversight Act in 1980. This Act was an amendment to the Hughes–Ryan Act and obligated the IC to report covert actions to both the SSCI and the HPSCI prior to their implementation, unlike the ambiguous previous requirement of a timely manner. The Intelligence Oversight Act was noteworthy in that it constrained the intelligence community more than any previous legislation (Riley 2010). The two biggest shortfalls I see to the system is the number of contributors there are to the system on such a large scale. When I think about all of the redundancy built within the system, I think about all of the possible breakdown in communications that could take place. The second shortfall I see is the legislative leverage that is held over the Intelligence community. I personally believe this to be a mistake because this power could be held in a negative manner and to gain a political stance or agenda. • 27. Conceited Judgment and the Pitfall of Pride In both of Flannery O' Connor's short stories "A Good Man is Hard to Find" and "Good Country People," there is a central theme about the negative effects of trusting one's own judgment too readily, as well as using religion to manipulate people. It is easy to see multiple connections to this theme in the two short stories, although the specific events themselves are different. For instance, Hulga from "Good Country People" believes her intelligence allows her to see people's true character, but she is ultimately left alone full of despair when her faith in herself and her leg is ironically taken away. In the same way, the unnamed grandmother in "A Good Man is Hard to Find" feels her morals and experience in life allow her to judge other characters without fault. Therefore, the two short stories are similar to each other because the plots, characters, and misuses of religion reflect the central theme of trust and manipulation. Although the details of these two stories differ in many aspects, they share a similar plot that follows a theme about people trusting their own judgments too easily. In "Good Country People," Hulga meets a Bible salesman, Manly Pointer, who seems to have an innocent aura around him. He bored Mrs. Hopewell, Hulga's mother, but she "couldn't be rude to him. The sellers gain profit when they buy back the shares at a lower price (Investopedia, n.d.). The benefits of short–selling include facilitating market efficience, driving down overprice shares, increasing liquidity of stock markets and exposing financial fraud. The CFA Institute believes thatshort–selling enables "participants to quickly and accurately adjust securities prices to reflect investor opinions about valuations" (Smith, 2012), hence improving marketing efficiency. It also shortens the time taken to discover corporate misconduct and predict firms who will be involved in financial misconduct (Foster, 2009). However, short–selling has its limitation as well. Firstly, it has detrimental effect which weakens investors' confidence in financial markets. It gives rise to short–term market volatility and cause severe damage to investors' confidence when share prices decline. Secondly, there is an unlimited risk involved as there is no limit to the amount of money the short–seller can lose, the price of the share can increase forever (IG, n.d.). Economic rationale From a public sector economic rational point of view, Bergman (2009) argues that marginal costing is superior to absorption costing to the extent that a public entity has access to tax revenues (i.e. subsidies) to cover for a large part of its fixed costs. This argument has resonance in sectors such as education or health. Critics accuse American executives of shortsightedness and point out that managers in Japan and Europe often fix their vision on more disВ¬tant horizons. Here, it is claimed, managers pay too much attention to quarterly earnings reports and not enough to such basic elements of industrial strength as research and development. Some analysts see the root of this problem in the tendency of American companies to rely on discounted cash flow techВ¬niques in weighing long–term investments.1 These critics argue that DCF techniques have inherent weaknesses that make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Awareness of these pitfalls should help managers avoid uncritical use of DCF techniques that may lead to poor decisions. An R&D Project, for Example Although the comments here apply to a variety of investment proposals, we shall illustrate these three major pitfalls with the analysis of an R&D project. [Exhibit I lists examples of other investment projects that are frequently misevaluated for the reasons deВ¬scribed in this article.) Because of their risk characВ¬teristics, R&D projects present some especially thorny problems. The pronounced uncertainties in these projects affect the analysis of risk in many ways. As a result, R&D projects with acceptable– even exciting–risk/return profiles may fail to meet the payoff criteria that management has established. Let 's look at a typical (hypothetical) project that would be rejected on the basis of the incomplete DCF analysis common in industry today. Then we 'll show how a more complete and careful analysis reveals the project to be not only acceptable but highly desirable. Our project has three distinct phases, as shown in Exhibit II. If the research (Phase 1) is successful, the project moves to market development (Phase 2), after which the resulting product may enjoy a long and profitable period of production and sales. The reВ¬search and market development phases are periods oi investment/ returns are forthcoming only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 36. Benefits And Potential Pitfalls Of Predictive Analytics Benefits and Potential Pitfalls of Predictive Analytics In the increasingly competitive global business environment, each organization needs to take advantage of every tool, opportunity, and advantage it can to achieve the best products and services, to gain and maintain market share, and keep stakeholders happy from investors and workers to supply chain and customers. The advance of data analysis has opened up new vistas to support decision making. Decision support systems (Sauter, 2010) have emerged that process various forms of data to build outcome models. These have been adopted in every segment of society, in the private and public sector, from political campaigns and the military to corporations and nonprofits alike. As a whole, the new set of tools involving the strategic use of data is called business intelligence. Within that general framework, the term analytics refers to the statistical, quantitative use of data to produce explanatory and predictive models for fact–based decision making. (Sauter, 2010). Predictive Analytics in Practice (Harvard Business Review, 2014) explores some intriguing questions regarding this new technology in its various short essays. How to make predictions about staff without scaring them. How to collect employee data without invading their privacy. How to deal with the analytics bottleneck. What do all these topics have in common? Each involves predictive analysis through data mining; and each seeks to use this process in ways that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 37. Examples Of Fallacies And Pitfalls In The Crucible Logical Fallacies and Pitfalls of The Crucible Throughout The Crucible, Arthur Miller uses many logical fallacies and pitfalls to describe characters and delve deeper into a character's motives. One such example is found in hasty generalization, which is present in the play. During the first scene of the play, the community is torn over the cause of a "sickness" that has afflicted two young girls. One of the girls is the daughter of Revered Parris, and the other the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Putnam. Both girls express similar symptoms; they are unresponsive, unable to move out of bed. Part of the town begins to worry that the girls have become overcome by darkness, although others are unwilling to accept this explanation. Revered Parris, who observed a group of girls... Mrs. Putnam describes her daughter, Ruth's, condition, explaining, "'She ails as she must–she never waked this morning, but her eyes open and she walks, and hears naught, sees naught, and cannot eat. Her soul is taken, surely'" (Miller 13). Mrs. Putnam makes a hasty generalization of the situation. She jumps to the conclusion that her daughter's soul is taken by the Devil, with only minimal evidence to support her claim. Instead of waiting for the "sickness" to fix itself, the Putnams assess the situation, and within hours, believe they know exactly what is wrong with their daughter. The device also factors into the development of the play as a whole. There could have been many causes for the "sickness," including a contagious disease spreading through Salem, or the stubbornness of two girls faking an illness. By introducing the idea of the Devil into the situation, Mrs. Putnam creates an uneasiness that impacts each person in the town. People become more suspicious of one another, and begin to betray their neighbors. Townspeople, who are normally God–fearing, respected men and women, observe irrelevant and trivial things about other people, and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As they get older and start school they often participate in sports as a way to both make now friends and be active. As the children grow older, progressing into their teenage years, they become more specialized in their sports. The sports that the young people continue with grow in their favor. When the child reaches the high school level, sports take center stage. The pressure for them to perform in sports and perform well is immense. I also could not be involved in activities such as our Senior Assembly because it was during football season. I also missed out on back to school dances and Homecoming parades. The typical high school student has the ability to do all of those things and more. They can experience a less stressful, more memorable environment. The experience of a regular student in high school is far from the experiences of high school athletes. High school athletes live a very restricted life. They miss out on many things that their peer students are able to share. What causes the young people partaking in high school sports to miss out on the other events of the regular students is their extreme commitment to their sport. High school athletes often over–exert themselves in preparation for their sports. In addition to the in–season commitment of hours of practice daily in addition to games, the off–season is often more demanding. There are countless hours of preparations such as conditioning and weight–training. These often take the same amount of time as the in season games and practices, if not more. There are also other activities, like in football there are combines, camps, and passing tournaments. Sports like field hockey, soccer, and basketball have similar camps but are often also have club teams. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pitfalls Of Creative Destruction Pitfalls of Creative Destruction Strong standing businesses have a definite answer to the five fundamental questions introduced in chapter two: what will be produced, how it will be made, who will get the goods, how to accommodate to change, and how to promote progress. However, outdated businesses start to collapse, suffer losses, and even close down when rival firms introduce cutting–edge innovations. This is the result of creative destruction: new products and production methods replace or rather destroy obsolete goods (McConnell et al 37). Creative destruction benefits the consumers because the new products make their lives easier and economic evidence shows that old firms should learn the newest technologies. While Netflix made a steady rate of income, Blockbuster had steady losses and eventually a great drop in income, which lead to bankruptcy. Economically speaking, Blockbuster had to shut down because its marginal revenue was lower than its average total costs. Every time the business sold their product, it made losses because the revenue never covered its cost of operating and production costs. Among the five fundamental questions discussed in chapter two, how a product will be produced is vital. Firms want to minimize the cost of making an output. Thus, Blockbuster used efficient ways to produce its movies and games by outsourcing and reduced staffing (WordPress). However, a major expense for Blockbuster was rent for the location of its stores and wages for its employees, which Netflix did not have to worry about because it was an online service. • 40. Pitfalls Of Torture Essay Torture is one of the most extreme methods of eliciting information; unfortunately, it has been used for centuries and is still prevalent worldwide. Thesis: Counterterrorism through interrogation is wrong and leads to false information. Scientific Perspective In 2006 the Intelligence Science Board, a civilian board that advises the U.S. Department of Defense on technical and scientific matters, stated that there was information to support the declaration that torture produces reliable information. Shane O'Mara, a neurobiologist associated with Trinity College in Dublin, analyzed the interrogation methods of the Bush administration. O'Mara refers to such techniques as "folk psychology," and "are unlikely to do anything other than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another serious pitfall of torture is confabulation (false memories), a resultant of the damage to the prefrontal cortex. A 2008 study showed that pain and stress retreat further into a murky situation where the detainee cannot tell truth from false knowledge. O'Mara argues that prolonged and sever stress does not support memory in the brain as stated by some. Coercive interrogations are unlikely to facilitate "the release of veridical information from long–term memory." Indeed, torture provides the interrogator with false and unreliable information. Unreliable Information The act of torture can be traced back to the early history of man and the questionable validity of information extracted goes back as far. The third century Roman Jurist, Ulpian, wrote that information obtained via torture should not be trusted as some people are "so susceptible to pain that they will tell any lie rather than suffer it" (Peters, 1996). Nearly two millennia later, the discussion continues and the evidence more and more supports Ulpian's assertion. Most torture victims will "confess" to any accusation if it will stop the pain. Although there are occasions where accurate information may be disclosed under duress, numerous victims have reveled that the truthful information that they did revel was interspersed with fictitious information to appease the interrogators to stop the pain (Conroy 2000). Studies have disclosed that as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
