14. Before we go on, do watch this short clip on problem solving:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPz6uvIbWZE
15. Be honest. How many
of you thought of
water displacement
solution?
16. These following steps are what students need to practice in the
class (TEACHER must let them know there are many
models/problem solving techniques, this is just one of many they
can find on the internet, encourage them to compare 5-steps vs 6-
steps vs 8 steps versus others for real usefulness in life—for starters,
we will use this one.)
Teacher must create the environment and context where they can
apply these steps while in the classroom. (EXAMPLE: organize into
groups/assign specific roles/tasks to each member and explain the
situation or context they need to operate in)
So depending on the subject/course [math/science/ techno/
languages/ social studies], teacher must choose the right problems (as
close as possible to real life) for students to practice on, applying the
specific target competencies (of subject/ unit/lesson)
25. Reactions
Context: PROBLEM SOLVING IS ONE OF THE MOST IN-DEMAND SKILLS BY EMPLOYERS AND ALSO A
NUMBER 1 SKILL REQUIRED OF ENTREPRENEURS…
QUESTION FOR IFEAD:
• How can principals encourage teachers to use it in classes to make Lao Learners natural
problem solvers?
QUESTION FOR DGE
• At the PESS/DESB Levels, how can we encourage more learner-centered techniques like
problem-solving/critical thinking to be practiced in classrooms?
QUESTION for DTE:
• If problem solving is an in-demand 21st century skill, How is it emphasized during pre-
service at the TTCs?
Question for RIES:
• What subjects/grade levels do we usually encourage teachers to use PROBLEM SOLVING
for their subject lessons? Why?
