Genres of Magazine
 There are lots of different genres of magazine available
in the media industry. Some of these include the
following :
 Music
 Entertainment
 Sport
 Home and Garden
 Video Games
 Money/Finance
 Food/Cooking
 Fitness
 Health and Beauty
 Animals
 Photography
 Drama
 Science
 Technology
 DIY
 Motor Vehicles
Where can I find them?
 Magazines are often found in small retail shops such as your local store.
They can also be found in larger more commercial supermarkets.
 Supermarkets tend to have a wider range of genres of magazine due to
the population of customers being bigger then that of a smaller store.
 More local stores will have magazines related to the area that the store
is located for example a store in Norfolk may have more agricultural
magazines to attract the target audience.
 Some magazines are more specific as to where they can be find. For
example : a gardening magazine may be found at a garden centre.
Magazine Subscriptions
 A magazine subscription means that the target audience can go onto
the magazines website and subscribe to the magazine so that each
edition is sent to their house when released.
 Subscribers tend to get lots more benefits such as exclusive editions
and promotion offers/free gifts which makes it an appealing idea.
 Another benefit of subscribing to a magazine is that due to being a
loyal customer, you will usually get each edition of the magazine at a
discounted rate as a thank you from the publisher.
 It also means that you can receive your magazine without even having
to leave your house!
Target Audience
 The target audience of a magazine mainly depends on
the genre of the magazine and also how the magazine
is advertised. For example :
 A magazine about rugby would have a target audience for people
interested in the sports and that wants to find out more about the
sport.
 A baking magazine would appeal to people that like baking and want
to find out more techniques or recipes for baking.
 A car magazine would attract a target audience of people that have a
general for cars. More specifically a ‘Ford’ Magazine may attract owners
of people that own Ford cars.
