Courage is a necessity to overcome fears and achieve a desired goal. Fear is something that exists
in all of us. There is no hero or any particular courageous figure that is without fear. Being fearless
is not required to be courageous, one simply has to look past or overcome their fears to possess this

My act of courage in life is noting extraordinary, but it was a big deal for me and to this day I'm
grateful that I was able to overcome it, because now I love riding roller coasters. Anyway the fear at
the time (last year) was riding roller coasters because I was scared I might fall out of my seat and
die, and as I got older it was becoming more of a problem. Plus, as a "teenager" it's hard to find
something fun besides roller coasters and expensive rigged carnival games at theme parks like
Six Flags. But once summer had started I knew something was going to have to change and I had

little bit I would have mini heart attacks and have to calm myself. This would go on for a while

The Red Badge of Courage is a fiction novel that descripts the internal and external conflicts of a
civil war soldier, Henry. It was written by Stephen Crane 30 years after the Civil War. Historical
accurateness can be seen in the tone, setting, and realistic details of the military environment. The
uses of naturalism, the theme, and the use of symbolism, all have a positive effect on the novel.
All these details help make the story enjoyable to me. The vivid descriptions of characters are
limited to the reader and may be seen as a weakness. My overall opinion of the novel is a positive
response with a few things I didn't like.

Nature does not depend on the thought and/or actions of humans. An example of this can be seen
after Jim, Henry's friend, dies. Henry wishes to make an impassioned speech in honor of his friend,
but he is disrupted by the uncaring sun in chapter nine. It is "pasted on the sky like a wafer." Nature
knows or cares nothing about the issues of humans. This a great addition to the novel.
The only complaint of the novel that I have is its lack of details of the characters. Through most of
the story tall soldier, loud soldier, tattered soldier, and the youth are used. I would have like to see
more details to help me further visualize the characters in my head. While visual descriptions are
very important to me, I think the author might have done this to bring more attention to the inner
thoughts and feelings of the main character, Henry.
The Red Badge of Courage was an interesting read. It is historical correct in the tone, setting, and
military references. Through symbols, the reader knows nature is indifferent to human life and that
some factors can play on the characters thoughts and feelings. These themes are very clear
throughout the story. AlthoughStephen Crane limits the visual details of the characters, I think he
did it so the reader could focus on Henry's internal actions. I would rate this novel a 5 out of 5

Both of these could very well describe someone who acts courageously. But they are synonyms.
When someone has hope, they believe that whatever they are facing will eventually subside and
become resolved; on the other hand courage is taking action and doing something impactful. Usually
an internal emotion, hope can be expressed by triggering an action, whereas courage describes how
one acted. Strength is the ability to overcome something and defeat it using physical or mental
abilities: muscle, wit, or knowledge. Genetically, strength can be passed from parent to child–unlike
courage, which is a choice. We need to combine hope and strength. After hearing many different
definitions, courage is the choice to harvest–to the best of one's ability– the power to overcome a
situation that seems nearly impossible, while putting all fears and distractions

virtues, because without courage, you can't practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice
