Courage occurs when you go are in the midst of an event that scares you, but continue to push
through.i have not been the type of person to take initiative in a situation mostly due to my
reserved nature, but that all changed as I went to work at Knott's Berry Farm.I had to constantly
put myself out of the comfortable box I placed myself in.The biggest conflict I encounter during
my time there was when I helped out a small lost child in the park.I wasn't sure how to approach
the situation at first since it was my first time but I approached my lead with the child to ensure

Atticus has moral courage when he defends Tom Robinson. Even though people critisize his
choice, like when Mrs. Debose says "'Not only a Finch waiting on tables but one in the
courthouse lawing for niggers"' (Lee 101), Atticus perseveres and defends Tom as well as he
would defend a white person. The lionhearted Atticus is willing to defend a black guy, who will
likely lose the case, in order to uphold his morals. He also risks his physical health to go protect
Tom Robinson at the jailhouse at night. He stands up to an armed mob whose intention is made

Mother Teresa was a courageous woman because she dedicated her life to helping others.
Throughout life, she chose to help the needy, poor, sick, and helpless people of the world every
day of her life. Her actions are considered courageous because she chose to help people, rather than
seeking reward for helping others. Mother Teresa is an example of how courage can be expressed
through the service of large amounts of people, rather than just one or a few. If Mother Teresa
chose to work for reward, her behaviors would not have been considered courageous. For example,

Through the means of books, movies, television, and everyday encounters, courage is shown in
many ways throughout life. Wondering how my peers defined this abstract term pushed me to
question some of them. The first three people I asked said "courage is persisting through something

teenagers because it can be applied in many parts of life–meaning it must be relatable–and is easy to

Both of these could very well describe someone who acts courageously. But they are synonyms.
When someone has hope, they believe that whatever they are facing will eventually subside and
become resolved; on the other hand courage is taking action and doing something impactful. Usually
an internal emotion, hope can be expressed by triggering an action, whereas courage describes how
one acted. Strength is the ability to overcome something and defeat it using physical or mental
abilities: muscle, wit, or knowledge. Genetically, strength can be passed from parent to child–unlike
courage, which is a choice. We need to combine hope and strength. After hearing many different

Webster dictionary having composure means to have a calmness or repose especially of mind,
bearing, or appearance. This can also mean calmness, tranquility, and coolness. Having
composure does not mean to let out all your anger, it means to stay calm. An example of using
composure would be working well under pressure. The authors who all share this trait are Melba,
part of the Little Rock 9, she immigrates to an all white school. Malala Yousafzai, a young girl
who was shot by the Taliban for fighting for women's rights and education. And Felicia "Snoop"
Pearson, who made many decisions in her life at a young age that lead her to the wrong places.
These 3 people all faced challenges in their lives that forced them to use composure to stay strong in
who they are and what they believe.
The first example of the literature I studied in class was Warriors Don't Cry by Melba. She was a
high school student integrating to an all white school. She faced many challenges being one of the
nine African American students, and was bullied and harassed very severely. On Melba's first day of
integrating schools she was greeted with yelling and tormenting and physical harassment. "Early that
morning a boy began to taunt me... First he greeted me with bottle cap openers... He was also a
master at walking on my heels. He hurt me until i wanted to scream for help." Melba could have
fought him back but she chose not to. That shows how she used composure, by not fighting back.
After dealing with all the tormenting she could take Melba went to the principal's office to report
the treatment she received. "When I went to the principal's office the clerks asked me why I was
reporting petty stuff. With unsympathetic scowls and hostile attitudes they accused me of making
mountains out of molehills." This is another example of Melba using composure because she had to
respect the office clerks and agree with what they said and move on.

Examples Of Courage In Jasper Jr Jones
Courage can be something that is hard to achieve. Not only do you have to be brave, but also
willing to take the risk even when you are scared. Jasper Jones has many characters who show
courage, but also characters who could have been courageous and changed the whole plot. Courage
can save someone's life, and the lack of it could cause totally different endings in life as if someone
did something that they may not have done without having courage, when someone may have lack
of courage causing them not to do something, or when someone may decide to use courage to
save a life. Doing something that you may not be comfortable with but still doing it can show a
lot of courage. Charlie shows courage by going out of his comfort zone, and doing something he
never would have at the beginning of the book. "But I myself long enough to commit an
astonishing act of bravery. In the middle of town, in front of everyone, I lean in, then and there,
and I kiss her, quickly, on the lips" (Silvey 233). Although this may seem very small, it's a big leap
from what Charlie ever would have done earlier in the book. He also even wonders if they were
too out in the open the first time Eliza kissed him, which goes to show just how brave he was to do
this. Even the little things like this can be an act of courage, as it is something he was nervous to

Eliza shows a lack of courage when she watched her sister kill herself. "Laura, with her back to
her sister...her hands around her throat like her father tightening his neck tie. And then she
rocked back and fell" (263). Eliza watched on silently not saying a word, and later blamed herself for
what had happened to her sister. Even in the book Eliza says if she would have said something her
sister could still be alive. The lack of courage here allowed Laura to die. Now this doesn't mean Eliza
killed her, but rather could have been able to save
