Greece's health crisis: from austerity to denialism - The Lancet - 02/2014FactaMedia
Through austerity measures imposed in response to its economic crisis, Greece made deep cuts to its public health system and spending. This led to reduced access to care, especially for vulnerable groups. Unmet medical needs increased significantly from 2007 to 2011, with financial barriers and transportation difficulties preventing many from receiving needed care. Indirectly, the austerity measures negatively impacted health by worsening economic conditions and increasing unemployment, mental health issues, child poverty, and suicides.

The document summarizes a meeting of Chief Medical Officers and Chief Nursing Officers that discussed the WHO's Health 2020 framework. The framework aims to improve health and well-being for all Europeans and reduce health inequities. It focuses on investing in health through the life course, tackling major health challenges, strengthening people-centered health systems, and creating resilient communities. The framework also emphasizes addressing social determinants of health and mobilizing other sectors to support health.
This document proposes ways for the EU to strengthen its role in global health. It recommends that the EU:
1) Seek stronger leadership and coordination of global health actors like the WHO to improve governance.
2) Increase support to help all countries achieve universal healthcare coverage and make faster progress on health-related UN Millennium Development Goals.
3) Promote policy coherence across EU policies affecting health like trade, development aid, migration, and climate change.
European Health Parliament - Prevention of chronic diseases paperBeatriz
This document discusses the need for a new and strengthened EU Alcohol Strategy to help prevent chronic diseases. It notes that alcohol is a major contributor to disease and death in Europe. While some progress has been made through existing strategies and policies, Europe still has the highest per capita alcohol consumption in the world. The document calls for the EU to take a more proactive role in supporting member state legislation and regulation on alcohol. It proposes that the new EU Alcohol Strategy address key areas like pricing policies, marketing restrictions, and health warnings on alcohol products to help reduce alcohol-related harm at both the European and national levels.
Around 2.6 billion people rely on polluting cooking methods like open fires and simple stoves that burn biomass, kerosene, and coal. This household air pollution contributes to nearly 4 million premature deaths annually from diseases like pneumonia, stroke, heart disease, and lung cancer. Exposure to fine particulate matter from household air pollution almost doubles the risk of childhood pneumonia and is responsible for nearly half of all pneumonia deaths in children under 5. Transitioning to cleaner fuels and more efficient cooking technologies could prevent millions of deaths and improve health worldwide.
This document discusses tobacco and noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in Egypt. It notes that over 170,000 Egyptians die each year from tobacco-related illnesses. Tobacco use also results in significant economic costs for healthcare and lost productivity. The four main NCDs - cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory disease - all share four main modifiable risk factors, one of which is tobacco use. The document outlines Egypt's ratification of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and implementation of Law 157/2007 to increase tobacco taxes, expand health warnings on packaging, ban indoor smoking and restrict youth access.
PINSAP, The Interdepartamental Plan on Public Health of the Catalan GovernmentPonenciesASPCAT
The document outlines Catalonia's Interdepartmental Public Health Plan (PINSAP) to promote health in all policies. It discusses strategic priorities like improving health equity and governance. The plan recognizes social and economic determinants influence health more than the healthcare system. It proposes coordinating departments to address determinants like education, jobs, environment. An interdepartmental commission will oversee plan development and evaluate impact on health indicators. The tobacco example shows social factors affecting consumption and health impacts. The plan aims to capitalize on all government policies' health influences and assess progress towards national and WHO health goals.

The document summarizes elements of the WHO Regional Office for Europe's Health 2020 strategy. It discusses how the global health landscape has become more complex with challenges like noncommunicable diseases dominating disease burdens. Health 2020 aims to improve governance, invest in health through a life course approach, tackle major health challenges, strengthen health systems and create supportive environments. Its four priorities are improving leadership for health, reducing health inequities, making people the focus of health systems, and supporting disease prevention. The strategy aims to work across sectors and policies to improve health for all Europeans.
This document discusses strategies for reducing tobacco use and related cancers in Europe. It argues that smoking cessation is key to curbing the cancer burden from tobacco. Taxation and price increases are very effective at reducing tobacco consumption, but the tobacco industry opposes such measures. Smoke-free legislation that prevents secondhand smoke exposure also discourages tobacco use and helps promote denormalization of smoking. However, too few smokers receive treatment for tobacco dependence, despite effective and cost-effective options being available. Widespread implementation of smoking cessation programs could have a major long-term impact on reducing cancer rates.

Local Advanced Lung Cancer: Artificial Intelligence, Synergetics, Complex Sys...Oleg Kshivets
Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).
ABDOMINAL TRAUMA in pediatrics part one.drhasanrajab
Abdominal trauma in pediatrics refers to injuries or damage to the abdominal organs in children. It can occur due to various causes such as falls, motor vehicle accidents, sports-related injuries, and physical abuse. Children are more vulnerable to abdominal trauma due to their unique anatomical and physiological characteristics. Signs and symptoms include abdominal pain, tenderness, distension, vomiting, and signs of shock. Diagnosis involves physical examination, imaging studies, and laboratory tests. Management depends on the severity and may involve conservative treatment or surgical intervention. Prevention is crucial in reducing the incidence of abdominal trauma in children.

56. Globally, mortality rates have decreased across all age groups over
the past five decades, with the largest improvements occurring
among children younger than 5 years. However, at the national
level, considerable heterogeneity remains in terms of both level
and rate of changes in age-specific mortality; increases in mortality
for certain age groups occurred in some locations.
Countries have saved more lives over the past decade, especially
among children under age 5, but persistent health problems, such
as obesity, conflict, and mental illness, comprise a “triad of
troubles,” and prevent people from living long, healthy lives.
Total deaths in children younger than 5 years decreased from 1970
to 2016, and slower decreases occurred at ages 5–24 years. By
contrast, numbers of adult deaths increased in each 5-year age
bracket above the age of 25 years.
