Jesus chooses us, as He chose His disciples. He sends us on a critical mission. His blessing goes out to those whom believe and yet have not seen Him. He wants to use us to share His love and peace to the world to usher in His Kingdom. Will we go?
3. What is happening TODAY?
Focusing on the self
We can be distracted by
the “ME” things… and
miss the “HE” things
PROBLEM?
Cannot see God
Cannot please God
4. Jesus baptised by John John testifies about Jesus
What happened before this?
5. Today…
What does God’s Word have to say to us today?
Matt 5: 21-37
(Message from John 4: 5-26)
6. 20:19 When it was evening
on that day, the first day of
the week, and the doors of
the house where the
disciples had met were
locked for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood
among them and said,
"Peace be with you."
20:20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples
rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
20:21 Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I
send you."
7. What is the message for TODAY?
Jesus cannot be stopped by locked doors
He chooses His disciples…
He comes to us in the midst of our fear, pain,
inadequacies, sin…
He comes because He sends us….
What does this mean to us today?
8. 20:22 When he had said this, he breathed on them
and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
20:23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are
forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are
retained."
20:24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one
of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
20:25 So the other disciples told him, "We have
seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see
the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my
finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his
side, I will not believe."
9. What is the message for TODAY?
Jesus stresses the criticality of His mission
Those whom are sent has utmost responsibility, stakes
are high indeed!
People who come to know Jesus will be released from
their sins.
If those who are sent fails to bear witness, people will
remain in unbelief
What does this mean to us today?
10. 20:26 A week later his disciples were again in the
house, and Thomas was with them. Although the
doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among
them and said, "Peace be with you."
20:27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger
here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and
put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe."
20:28 Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my
God!"
20:29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed
because you have seen me? Blessed are those
who have not seen and yet have come to
believe."
11. What is the message for TODAY?
Jesus blesses those whom believe…
He does not rebuke Thomas who needed to see
His blessing goes out to those whom believe without
even seeing Him
What does this mean to us today?
12.
13. What is the message for TODAY?
Jesus has a plan, John writes about that plan…
Jesus keeps on showing up… to the disciples, to
Thomas, to many more…
He sends us out, out of our locked rooms, into the
world that needs His gifts of life and peace
What does this mean to us today?
15. What is the message for TODAY?
We are sent….
Will we go?
• He shows up
• He assures us
• He equips us
• Will we go?
16. I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin, my hand will save
I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright,
Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?
17. Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.
18. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people's pain.
I have wept for love of them, they turn away.
I will break, their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send?
19. Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.
20. I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame
I will set a feast for them, my hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide, till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send?
21. Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.
