10. a new life The getavisionPROJECT is a direct outgrowth of my health challenges since late 2005 , first testing positive for HIV and more recently battling Stage 4 Burkitt's Lymphoma since early 2007. The Stage 4 Burkitt's Lymphoma diagnosis was urgent, requiring immediate action and to stop the quickly progressing cancer, which was rapidly moving from the lymphnode system to the liver. The regimine prescribed by my Kaiser Permanente oncologists would require extensive hospitalization until 2008, which would include long periods of in-patient chemotherapy and a proposed bone marrow stem cell transplant with Kaiser oncologists at the City of Hope cancer research hospital. I've been on the road to recovery since being released from City of Hope in mid-January 2008. Kasier Permanente's awesome medical care truely is allowing me to live the KP mantra: THRIVE, while the City of Hope truely infused hope and new life into my bones, blood and spirit! Today I'm on track and have witnessed the most miraculous time of my life! I had doubts about surviving and even deeper doubts about being able to function in the real world again. But, here I am and ready to fulfill a new vision for my life.

11. a new vision My experience in battling Burkitt's Lymphoma was both physically and mentally disabling, rendering me helpless in many routine activities we take for granted. I lost my vision. The life-challenging experiences of this time have opened my eyes to the significance of not only friends and family, but to having a vision and purpose in life and a reason to endure the experience, push forward and survive. I felt a huge need to have a vision for my future and the positive impact my life could ultimately have on the people and the world around me. For much of the time during my health challenges I had lost my vision and hope for the future, and sometimes could not see the reason to fight on. In fact, I could not imagine having the physical and mental capacity to function in the post-recovery world again.
