I am interested in looking at language change when there are different target audiences for a text,
I have always found science to be interesting and therefore, for my investigation, I would like to
find out more about how language used in children’s scientific textbooks differs from that of A
Level. I would get textbooks from the local or school library to help collect data and evidence and
use the text in those books. The main frameworks that I would be using would be lexis, grammar
and semantics. I expect the A level textbooks to use more mature language and be more serious. I
think this project fits in with the field of language change.
If this is not feasible, I have also considered the possibility of looking at how boys and girls differ in
giving directions, or looking at how football commentaries are presented differently on television in
comparison to radio.
