1. Project BHH ED- ‘Dirty Little Secret’
Emergency Departments (ED) and Critical Care areas traditionally have the lowest Hand Hygiene (HH) statics worldwide. The national
compliance rate based on the World Health Organisations ‘5 moments of Hand Hygiene’ is 70%, with BHH ED sitting around 25% at
present. This ‘dirty little secret’ of our hospital is a challenging area, however the implementation of a Hand Hygiene program is
imperative to change the culture of HH and prevent Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) being given to our patients. Project ‘Dirty
Little Secret’ is designed to bring our HH statistics up to the national average of 70% .
