Topic: “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas” Resources: Group Piano 1
Lesson Steps
1. Greetings. Welcome the students for the second semester.
2. Remind the students of the classroom rules
3. Singing the songs:
“Open and Shut Them” to review their finger numbers
“Where is Thumbkin?” to review their finger names
4. Activity: “Down and Up Stems” for the students to learn when to use right hand and left hand.
a. Review the down and up stem note
b. Every students are given the opportunity to answer in front
c. A down step or up stem are shown on the board, they will be ask “What hand are you
going to use when you see this note?” .They are going to choose between two flash
cards with R.H or L.H label and they will stick it on the board.
5. Piano Time:
a. The students will be reminded of the piano class rules.
b. The students will go to their respective places.
c. The students will going to play “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas” while the teacher accompanies
them.
d. They will play individually, by group and as a class.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the session, the students will be able to:
1. Review their finger names and numbers
2. Review the down and up stems
3. Know when to use right and left hand
4. Learn to play the song “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas”
