This document outlines an activity where students will predict and observe the outcomes of various experiments and determine whether the results are due to magic or science. The experiments include extinguishing a candle without breath or liquid, pushing a pencil through a bag of water, predicting which objects will float or sink, using soap and pepper on water, comparing the properties of different liquids, and choosing one experiment to diagram and analyze more deeply. The goal is for students to make observations, predictions, and explanations for what they see using scientific reasoning.

56. Scientific Method
1. Diagram (labels)
2. Observe (What do your 5 senses tell
you?)
3. Predict (before the event…be honest)
4. Provide Evidence (viable/credible
resources)
5. Record (in your own words)
6. Research/Analyze (support your claim
with evidence)
7. Explain (practical application)
