GPEC leads delegation to major international solar show in California
Meetings set with top executives from more than 20 solar companies
PHOENIX (July 7, 2009) — The Greater Phoenix Economic Council will meet with 25 chief-level
executives from global and multi-national solar energy companies next week during the 2009
Intersolar North America conference in San Francisco. The meetings represent about $2 billion in
investment and 1,500 jobs.
The three-day conference is among the industry’s largest international shows in the country,
drawing 500 exhibitors from more than 22 countries and 15,000 trade visitors. The local delegation
will promote Arizona as a premiere place to do business and showcase the opportunities that exist.
“Major players in the global solar industry will be at this conference,” said GPEC’s President and
CEO Barry Broome. “There just isn’t a better venue to show these companies what Arizona can
offer this industry and to promote the Quality Jobs Through Renewable Industries bill.”
As part of GPEC’s efforts to include mayors on sales missions, town of Fountain Hills Mayor Jay
Schlum and officials from Surprise and Peoria will accompany the delegation. Local solar
companies and organizations also plan to attend the show, including Stirling Energy Systems,
Centrosolar America, AideSolar, Az4solar, Lindell Engineering and CarbonFree Technology.
The conference, which runs July 14-16, is the largest attraction of solar companies and the only
solar exhibition in North America dedicated to recruiting companies across the solar supply chain
from around the world.
Participation at this global show aligns with several of GPEC’s key initiatives for fiscal year 2010,
including pursuit of opportunities in California, continued efforts to attract foreign direct investment,
development of Arizona’s renewable energy cluster and stakeholder engagement from both our
public- and private-sector partners.
