2. 2. Matthew 28:16- 20 The Great Commission 16 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted! 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

 10. 10. OUR GIVEN TASK: GET THEM IN AND GROW THEM UP

The ‘Great Commission’ is quite easily understood…do what you bring people to a place of loyalty to Jesus and then help them to follow him.

Let’s step back and scrutinize this profound mandate.

 11. 11. THE COMMISSIONER: THE RISEN, REIGNING JESUS

All of the promises, claims and authority of Jesus were validated by the Resurrection.

The Resurrection did not make Jesus Lord, it revealed his lordship. -- Acts 2:26, 26, I Corinthians 15:3-8, Philippians 2:5-11, I Corinthians 15:12- 19

Jesus is qualified to be the Lord of the universe. He is Lord of all. -- Acts 2:36

God loves everyone in the world and is devoted to having them hear it.

 12. 12. THE COMMISSIONED: THE BODY OF CHRIST, HIS CHURCH

Although first given to his Apostles, the Great Commission is clearly given to all believers. -- 2 Corinthians 5:17- 21, Colossians 1:18-20

Paul is a great example of one who is totally devoted to winning the lost to Jesus. -- I Corinthians 9:19-22

Is the Great Commission still the trumpet call to the church?

Those who are ‘in’ are commanded to help bring others in.

 13. 13. THE COMMISSION: MAKE DISCIPLES

Disciple” is a stronger word than believer or convert. It implies that one is a student and under the authority of another person.

How can you ‘make disciples’? God does his part, we do ours.

Faith comes by hearing. So somebody must speak the Gospel. --Romans 10:17

Most converts first have a relationship with a believer, then with God.

When we implore others to be reconciled to God, God is making his appeal through us. --2 Cor 5:20

 14. 14. It’s Quite Simple: We Are To Be Actively Engaged In Helping Reconcile The Lost To God

We do it at arm’s reach via missionaries.

We can make evangelism a priority in the new ‘year’.

We can earnestly pray.

We can see ways to be ‘all things to all men’.

Do you have ongoing, genuine relationships with others?

How about actively inviting friends to Sunday services or small group gatherings?

Let’s memorize Matthew 28:18- 20 and asking God to help up be his partners?
