Prepared Childbirth Class Evaluation Goals
Identify predictors of:
 achievement of learning objectives
 member satisfaction
 intention to enact positive health behaviors

Prepared Childbirth Evaluation
 First cross-regional analysis of any baseline class in
NCAL
 First time using standardized survey to assess all
baseline classes
 Aligns with organizational goal of improving and
standardizing NCAL baseline classes

 How effectively does the Prepared Childbirth class
inspire intention to take action to improve health?
 How does the convenience of class date and time predict
self-efficacy and learning outcomes?
 How does class fee correlate with member satisfaction?
 How does instructor performance predict self-efficacy
and learning outcomes?

Prepared Childbirth Survey
 20 Northern California facilities administered end-of-class
surveys to class participants from January—June 2013
 590 Prepared Childbirth surveys submitted to RHE

 The majority of participants (54%) plan to take action to improve their
health as a result of the Prepared Childbirth Class
 Survey results suggest that the convenience of the class day and time
correlates with achievement of learning outcomes as well as members’
overall satisfaction with the class
 Class fee does not predict achievement of learning outcomes or
members’ overall satisfaction with the class
 Instructor performance drives achievement of learning objectives
 Hispanic and African American participants report the highest levels of
intention to take action to improve their health as a result of the class; white
respondents report the lowest
 Across facilities, members report that Prepared Childbirth helps them feel
more confident and prepared for childbirth. However, the percentage of
members who intend to take action to improve their health as result of the
class varies significantly across facilities
 Learning outcomes do not appear to trend with member age
