Elementary School Ranges From Kindergarten
3. Cumberland Elementary School ranges from kindergarten to third grade. The principal of
Cumberland is Kimberly Bowers. Mrs. Bowers has many years of experience as both a teacher and
as a principal. Of the teachers at Cumberland, a majority of them have at least six to ten years of
experience teaching. All of the teachers are Caucasian. The school focuses mainly of literature and
mathematics. This means that these two subjects are integrated the others frequently. This method
can be very beneficial to the students and help them to make connections. There are eight classes for
every grade. Cumberland was rated the number one school in Indiana. They were also rated as a
four–star school. All of these facts lead me to believe that this is a school with very high standards
for their students and teachers. Knowing this as an educator means that I will have to work hard to
help the students and the school continue to succeed. Cumberland Elementary is a very diverse
school. The current enrolment of the school is 673 students according to Compass. The students
range from thirty–one different countries and include seventeen different languages. Only about half
of the students are Caucasian and the rest are of different ethnicities. The second largest race in the
school is Asian. As a teacher, this diversity means that I will have to make accommodations for

After taking the Educational Philosophies Self–Assessment test, I was able to figure out my
referencing scores for my ideal logical instructional principles believed rational of the classification
of educational archetypes. The areas of greatest influence in my philosophy of education included
Humanism with a total of 21 points, Perennialism and Existentialism with 18 total points in those
areas. Essentialism was second with 16 points and Reconstructionism record surveyed. The purpose
of schooling is to build productive members of society and the philosophy I scored the highest on
reflects the way I see teaching as an entity. Humanism is the theory or belief that learning from the
perspective of human potential for growth can shift of influence cognitive dimensions of education

wanted to get a degree as an English teacher, so I thought it was a great idea to interview one of my

Still reminiscing, I took a seat at the back of the classroom while Mr. Stucchi took roll from a
seating chart. Meanwhile, the class started with a "Daily Oral Language" exercise. The exercise
asked students to correct two sentences with grammatical errors. Finished with roll, Mr. Stucchi read
the correct answer and then asked the class for alternative responses. Students responded eagerly
and were praised for their efforts, whether their answers correct or incorrect. Maybe things had not
changed that much. I sat back and relaxed. I was not prepared for what happened next.
"Please clear your desks," asked Mr. Stucchi, "and I will pass out your weekly test." Muffled groans,

Continuing Professional Development
Encouraging professional development for new and veteran teachers is very important for multiple
reasons. Often times, new teachers still need time to become better acquainted with teaching in the
classroom. On the opposite side, veteran teachers need to know what is current in education that can
be implemented in their classroom. Professional development programs like mentorships,
professional development plans, and continued development are important programs to have in
place for teachers. For these programs to be successful and provide the support and development
that a teacher needs, they have to be quality programs. Just as students and children have different
ways that they learn, so do teachers and adults. Programs that will provide the development in
teachers that is vital for their teaching will take this into consideration. Mentorships can be great for
both new teachers and veteran teachers because each can learn from one another. New teachers
should be paired with good veteran teachers so that they have a chance to really learn. These have to

A world without education is a world without knowledge. Teachers play a significant role in
educating the uneducated because it is a rewarding profession. However, it can only be done if there
is dedication, passion, and determination. These are the key factors that separate a great teacher
from a "mediocre" teacher. A "mediocre" teacher enjoys his or her work and is satisfied with their
work. Meanwhile a great teacher is constantly adding and changing their teaching methods to
accommodate the needs of each student. One of the articles that we have read over the course of this

In elementary school whilst my peers were playing dress up and feeding tea to their stuffed animals,
my imaginary play entailed lining up all my animals in neatly constructed rows so that they would
be prepared for my class. Although the teacher–student play was natural and fun, it was not evident

The Ron Clark Story
"The Ron Clark Story" is such an inspirational movie in my opinion. I feel that this movie shows
what dedication in teaching is all about. It shows that teachers care and have chosen their career in
order to make a difference. Ron Clark was an outstanding teacher who was said to be able to raise

The idea of becoming a preschool teacher has always been something I would want to accomplish,

What makes a great teacher, is a simple question, that might seem to have an obvious answer,
however, the answers may not be so simple. When I asked my former teachers "What Makes A
Great Teacher," my geometry teacher responded with: patience, determination, passion, confidences,
self discipline, and organizational skills. These are qualities that when combined equal a great

Many times when we are given the choice to read or not we will pick the latter because we know
that no matter what nothing the teacher can say will get us excited for the assignment. Teachers need
to also realize that they are the reason for our animosity towards reading. When a teacher assigns a
book they are usually very sullen about the idea of the assignment. By having this expression the
teacher is setting the mood for the reading and discouraging us from reading. When I was sitting in
my freshman English class my teacher got out her large teacher's addition of the textbook flipped to
Romeo and Juliet and stated in a monotone voice for us to get out our books and read silently to

An Informal Reading Inventory is a great tool for teachers to use with their students to assess
multiple concepts. One purpose of the IRI is to monitor the growth of a student's word recognition,
oral reading, and comprehension to determine the reading level of independent, instructional, and
frustration. The frustration level is when the passage is too hard for the student even with help from
the teacher. The instructional reading level is when a student can read the text with the assistance
from a teacher, parent, or peer. Independent means that the student can read the passage alone with
no outside assistance. When teachers administer these tests they can pick the level of the passage
given and use the results to help decide how to further instruct the student. Later on, test the student
on the same level to measure the growth of the student.
The assessment is given by having a student answer concept questions about a passage before
reading. When administering the assessment, tell the student his/her answers will be recorded to
elevate stress on the student. Next, the student will use context clues to draw predictions following
with reading the passage orally with no support from the teacher. Students are advised before
reading to try to sound out words or move on from the word. As the student reads, the teacher counts
all of the miscues the student had. Miscues consist of omission of words or phrases, reversal of
words, self–correction, insertion of words into the text,

  • 1. Elementary School Ranges From Kindergarten 3. Cumberland Elementary School ranges from kindergarten to third grade. The principal of Cumberland is Kimberly Bowers. Mrs. Bowers has many years of experience as both a teacher and as a principal. Of the teachers at Cumberland, a majority of them have at least six to ten years of experience teaching. All of the teachers are Caucasian. The school focuses mainly of literature and mathematics. This means that these two subjects are integrated the others frequently. This method can be very beneficial to the students and help them to make connections. There are eight classes for every grade. Cumberland was rated the number one school in Indiana. They were also rated as a four–star school. All of these facts lead me to believe that this is a school with very high standards for their students and teachers. Knowing this as an educator means that I will have to work hard to help the students and the school continue to succeed. Cumberland Elementary is a very diverse school. The current enrolment of the school is 673 students according to Compass. The students range from thirty–one different countries and include seventeen different languages. Only about half of the students are Caucasian and the rest are of different ethnicities. The second largest race in the school is Asian.
