This online workshop on success with writing created by Jane Mangano will take approximately six hours to complete. The tasks will be checked by a lecturer from the AESC, and all tasks must be satisfactorily completed for the AESC to sign off on successful completion of the course. The workshop will cover how academic writing differs from other forms of writing, elements of good paragraphs and essays, punctuation, and provide free resources.

2. How long will this workshop take?
• It should take about six hours to complete the
workshop.
• Your completed tasks will be checked by a
lecturer from the AESC.
• All tasks must be completed to a satisfactory
standard.

3. What happens if I don’t complete the
workbook?
• If all tasks are not completed, the AESC will
not sign off on your successful completion of
the course.
• If any sections are not completed to a
satisfactory standard, the AESC will not sign

6. How is academic writing different?
• Usually written in the third person, so avoid
using ‘I’ and ‘me’.
• Formal in tone, so avoid using emotive
language, slang and colloquial language.
