2. ITEM #1
In every science center their is five categories are required. Each
category is required to have at least 3-5 different materials available
to the children at all times:
Nature Collections
Living things (2)
Science Things
Activities
Factual books and pictures
3. Nature Collections: (ex: pine cones, leaves, plants, and rocks)
Living things (2): (ex: Plants or animals)
4. Science Things: (ex: googles, microscope, magnets, magnifying glass)
Activities: (ex: mixing colors, seeing what is magnetic and what is
not, putting small toys in water and letting them freeze
5. Factual books and pictures: (ex: ABC of science, nature, pictures of
bugs, and science materials)
6. ITEM #2
In order to represent diversity in a science center to must have:
Labels for items with English and Spanish on them
Gloves for the students that do not like getting their hands dirty or
the feel of something
Tall and short chairs for the students tall and short to sit at and be
comfortable
7. ITEM #3
If children have access and interactions in the Science center, they will
develop new skills and abilities such as:
Understanding basic science
Understanding mixing colors
8. ITEM #4
The teachers role is to demonstrate to children how the different
science materials are used to extend learning.
Examples:
Encouraging kids to try new things and how mixing different things
can go together
Using scientific materials in the class room
