Commissioned and edited articles – among them, award winners – on global travel and adventure, food,
luxury goods and services.
 Managed strategic approach to unease arising from 9/11 sensitivities, given involvement of client’s
plane. Carefully monitored all content for tone and appropriateness while remaining cognizant of the
magazine’s editorial mission. Response from readers, client and advertisers was entirely positive.
 Overcame limitations of budget and magazine’s relative lack of prominence among writers by working
effectively with freelancers, artfully editing unpolished stories into high-quality pieces and maintaining

Promoted successively to de facto executive editor. In senior-most position, directed staff of more than two
dozen. Managed all day-to-day editorial operations of Los Angeles-based office and coordinated with New
York-based editor in chief. Negotiated writers’ contracts. Final-edited all copy, including headlines, decks and
coverlines. Collaborated with art department to ensure smooth integration of texts and images in supremely
visual magazine. Cultivated good publisher relations, coordinating special events and projects.
 Reestablished smooth daily operations and overcame staff confusion and demoralization upon abrupt
departure of longtime executive editor, by earning the trust of staff, writers, editors and designers.
 Co-conceived, co-launched and edited Motoring, special automotive design supplement, the magazine’s
foray into a new and lucrative subject area. Developed story ideas and commissioned majority of
articles, overseeing them from origination to final edit.
 Consistently and dramatically improved less-than-perfect copy. Efficiently edited stories from wide
range of writers – some of whose chief value was an ability to put a story together (e.g., to get access to
hard-to-pin-down celebrities or designers) rather than an ability to write cleanly or entertainingly.
