1. Data Communications Data communications enables computers to
communications with one another.
2. Sender The sender sends messages.
3. Receiver The receiver receives messages.
4. Channel The channel carries the messages.
5. Protocol The protocol is the rules for transferring data.
6. Network Networks are computers connected to other computers
and share information.
7. Local Area Network Computers that are connected close to each other.
8. Wide Area Network Computers that are connected farther apart from each
other.
9. Central Processing Unit The microprocessor.
10. Arithmetic/Logic Unit Performs arithmetic computations and logical
operations.
11. Control Unit The boss and coordinates all the CPU’s.
12. Random Access Memory Only holds information for a short period of time.
13. Read Only Memory Holds information permanently.
14. Basic Controllers Device that controls the transfer of data from a
computer to a peripheral device.
15. Serial & Parallel Ports Used to connect peripheral devices to the computer.
