1. Punk Debate
Cam: What punk band from the 70s has more of an effect on punk music today?
Jason: I think that the Sex Pistols do.
Cam: Wow that’s interesting, why did you pick them?
Jason: Because they were a band that really influenced a lot of punk bands.
Cam: What part about them do you think that influenced the most?
Jason: Their music.
Cam: Well I think the Clash influenced punk more.
Jason: Why do you think that they influenced punk more?
Cam: Because they incorporated more styles of music in their songs than the Sex Pistols did.
Jason: That is true, but the Sex Pistols were pretty much complete punk.
Cam: Well towards the end of the Clash’s career they incorporated reggae into their songs to influence more people because there is a lot more punk reggae than there is ska.
Jason: Yea that is true but the Sex Pistols had almost nothing to do with other types of music.
Cam: Well yea, that’s why I think that the Clash influenced more because there are more bands that are ska than there is true punk.
Jason: Yea like bands like Sublime and Bad Brains?
Cam: Yea.
Jason: Yea but the Sex Pistols influenced punk bands like NOFX and the Exploited.
Cam: Yea, that’s true but I feel that the Clash influenced a lot more different type of bands that are not completely punk but the Sex Pistols have influenced a lot more bands that are like a lot more hardcore punk.
Jason: Yea your right.
Cam: But I can agree that the Sex Pistols have influenced a lot of bands.
Jason: Yea.
