This message discusses the following:
1. Who the Holy Spirit is
2. How important the Holy Spirit is in a believer's life
3. What the Holy Spirit does
4. How to create space for the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives as believers
8. John 3:8 “The wind blows
where it wishes, and you hear
its sound, but you do not know
where it comes from or where
it goes. So it is with everyone
who is born of the Spirit.”
10. The Holy Spirit is a divine
person; co-equal with God the
Father and God the Son and of
the same nature; He was active in
the creation; in His relation to the
unbelieving world He restrains
the evil one until God's purpose is
fulfilled;
11. He convicts of sin, of judgment
and of righteousness; He bears
witness to the Truth of the Gospel
in preaching and testimony; He is
the agent in the New Birth; He
indwells, seals, endues, guides,
teaches, witnesses, sanctifies and
helps the believer.
13. John 14:16 “And I will ask the
Father, and he will give you
another Helper (parakletos), to
be with you forever…”
John 14:26 “But the Helper, the
Holy Spirit (pneuma)…”
14. “When we speak about the Holy Spirit,
we speak about the breath of God,
breathing in us. The Greek word for
“spirit” is pneuma, which means
“breath.” We are seldom aware of our
breathing. It is so essential for life that
we only think about it when something
is wrong with it.
15. The Spirit of God is like our breath.
God’s spirit is more intimate to us than
we are to ourselves. We might not often
be aware of it, but without it we cannot
live a “spiritual life.” It is the Holy Spirit
of God who prays in us, who offers us the
gifts of love, forgiveness, kindness,
goodness, gentleness, peace, and joy. It is
the Holy Spirit who offers us the life that
death cannot destroy.” – Henri Nouwen

2. Regenerates the spirit – Titus 3:5-
63. Indwells the believer – 1 Cor. 6:19
4. Seals the believer – Ephesians
4:305. Guides and speaks – John 16:13
6. Transforms/sanctifies – 2 Cor.

19. “It is possible to
engage in a lot of
“spiritual” activity
but fail to grow.”
-Ken Shigematsu,
“God in My Everything”
20. Romans 7:15, 19-26; 8:1-2 “I do not
understand my own actions. For I do not
do what I want, but I do the very thing I
hate.”
19 For I do not do the good I want, but
the evil I do not want is what I keep on
doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want,
it is no longer I who do it, but sin that
dwells within me.
21. 21 So I find it to be a law that when I
want to do right, evil lies close at hand.
22 For I delight in the law of God, in my
inner being, 23 but I see in my members
another law waging war against the law
of my mind and making me captive to
the law of sin that dwells in my
members. 24 Wretched man that I am!
Who will deliver me from this body of
death?
22. 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ
our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law
of God with my mind, but with my flesh I
serve the law of sin.
24 Wretched man that I am! Who will
deliver me from this body of death? 25
Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ
our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law
of God with my mind, but with my flesh I
serve the law of sin.
23. 1 There is therefore now no
condemnation for those who are in
Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit
of life has set you free in Christ Jesus
from the law of sin and death.
24. How to Create Space for
the Holy Spirit’s Work
in Our Lives

average of 4 hours and 17 minutes
per day on social media sites such
as Facebook, Snapchat and
Twitter.”

terms of time spent on social media” Jan. 24, 2017
27. “Fuss and feverishness,
anxiety, intensity,
intolerance, instability,
pessimism and wobble,
and every kind of hurry
and worry - these are
signs of the self-made,
self-acting soul.”
-Evelyn Underhill,
“The Spiritual Life”
28. Isaiah 30:15 “In repentance and
rest is your salvation, in quietness
and trust is your strength…”
