The Nature of the Holy Spirit
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine
heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of
the price of the land?
4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it
was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou
conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied
unto men, but unto God.
The Holy Spirit is something God gives
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is
also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them
that obey him.
1 Corinthians 6:19
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of
the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God,
and ye are not your own?
Therefore, the Holy Spirit is a
distinct personality of God
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is
expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not
away, the Comforter will not come unto you;
but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.
8 And when He is come, He will reprove the
world of sin, and of righteousness, and of
A personality that has specific attributes
He knows and teaches
1 Corinthians 2:11-13
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which
is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is
of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom
teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things
He speaks (I Timothy 4:1)
He grieves (Eph. 4:30)
The Work of the Holy Spirit
Works in unity with the Godhead
Creation (Gen. 1:1-2; Jn. 1:1-3)
Crucifixion (Jn. 3:16; Lk. 23:33)
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the
eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your
conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Resurrection (Acts 2:32; Jn. 2:19)
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead
dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also
quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
God the Father planned it
Ephesians 3:10-11 (KJV)
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the
church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
Christ executed the earthly part of it (Jn. 1:14)
The Spirit revealed it
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he
shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have
said unto you.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall
not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew
you things to come.
2 Peter 1:21
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as
they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Spirit is at work today but will not reveal anything that has not
already been revealed!!!
Some will reject the plan of God but God will not send another plan
Some will reject the cross of Christ but there will not be another sacrifice
Therefore the Holy Spirit will not reveal anything other than what has already
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this
book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that
believing ye might have life through his name.
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4
Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5 Which in other
ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and
prophets by the Spirit;
