BUS 300 GWAR-Assignment 2
Summarizing and Paraphrasing Business Research on an Ethical
Issue.
Purpose:
One of the objectives to achieve our learning outcomes is:
Understanding the ethical issues related to business
communication.
Therefore, students will choose a study in their concentration,
completed between 2014-2019,
based on an ethical issue in their business concentration.
Students will, read, summarize and paraphrase the study.
Rationale:
In the professional world, one is often charged with
summarizing research or other professional
publication for an employer/supervisor etc. to present at a
meeting or conference. Or, one may
have to present a summary of a study in their own words. The
practice is to directly and
purposefully apply the professional writing skills practiced in
the midterm and to avoid any issue
of plagiarism in a professional career.
Assignment time frame, five weeks. Final version due 11/24/19-
We don’t want to work into
the Fall Recess.
• Selection and reading of research, two weeks.
Starting with the Outline, all drafts will be submitted in the
fully formatted
document.
• 10/29/19-Outline due (formatted document with selected study
accessible);
Therefore, research selection must be approved and complete.
• 11/5/19-Reading completion and paraphrasing examples in
draft one due.
• 11/19/18-Draft two due all sections drafted, summarized and
paraphrased.
• 11/24/19-Final draft due.
• Debriefs and writing labs TBA
• Specific instructions and approaches on how to summarize
each section of a
completed study will occur during lectures.
For example: how to summarize a literature review etc.
Follow all previous implemented formats (APA, fonts etc.). No
Templates.
Procedure part (other procedures delivered in lecture).
• Stay aware of “do not use words”.
• Use action verbs.
• Stay away from pronoun use.
• Use clear concise professional writing skills. This is not an
opinion or critique paper.
The submitter’s voice is not present in this
summary/paraphrasing.
• Use an, objective- voice perspective.
• Do not speak to the reader
• Except for data (figures; percentages etc.), no direct quotes
are to be used in this
assignment. Paraphrase the approved study.
• Five page minimum (excluding title and table of contents
pages).
• Start with Google Scholar
• Do not pay for a study, there is plenty of free accessible
research to choose.
• Select a study already in APA format, otherwise convert
manually.
Research selection requirements:
• Research to be summarized/paraphrased must be submitted in
iLearn no later than
10/29/19.
• Professor will approve studies in the “feedback/notes” entry in
each student’s iLearn.
• Range 2014-2019 (no exceptions)
• Must be completed research; a study that addresses an ethical
issue in the
concentration area. General Business Concentration may choose
from any of the
LFCoB concentrations. To help with focused summaries, choose
a study that includes the
following clearly stated sections/headings:
Note: The33 selection must be a study, not an informative
article. The selection should
include most of the following.
Note: Researchers sometimes fold sections into another, for
example, their analysis
maybe be folded into the discussion. Select a study that contains
all the below sections.
• Introduction containing the Identification of a problem/issue
to be investigated in the
Business area/concentration.
• Literature Review Section AKA Conceptual
Framework/Background Research
• Methodology
• Findings or Results
• Analysis
• Discussion
• Conclusions
Note: The selected study must be accessible to the professor
(within one or two
clicks). Submitted studies for approval (in the submission file)
must open.
After selection using the above as a guide, the assignment
document will include all
headings and subheadings the researcher uses, all sections must
be summarized.
Hint: A study is much easier to paraphrase and summarize then
the researcher has
implemented many levels of headings. For example, a section
that has levels 1-4
headings allows the person summarize to paraphrase/summarize
in a more focused and
clear manner than a long section which contains a level 1
heading only.

Purpose: One of the objectives to achieve our learning outcomes is: Understanding the ethical issues related to business communication. Therefore, students will choose a study in their concentration, completed between 2014-2019, based on an ethical issue in their business concentration. Students will, read, summarize and paraphrase the study. Rationale: In the professional world, one is often charged with summarizing research or other professional publication for an employer/supervisor etc. to present at a meeting or conference. Or, one may have to present a summary of a study in their own words. The practice is to directly and
  • 2. purposefully apply the professional writing skills practiced in the midterm and to avoid any issue of plagiarism in a professional career. Assignment time frame, five weeks. Final version due 11/24/19- We don’t want to work into the Fall Recess. • Selection and reading of research, two weeks. Starting with the Outline, all drafts will be submitted in the fully formatted document. • 10/29/19-Outline due (formatted document with selected study accessible); Therefore, research selection must be approved and complete. • 11/5/19-Reading completion and paraphrasing examples in draft one due. • 11/19/18-Draft two due all sections drafted, summarized and paraphrased. • 11/24/19-Final draft due. • Debriefs and writing labs TBA • Specific instructions and approaches on how to summarize each section of a

Research selection requirements: • Research to be summarized/paraphrased must be submitted in iLearn no later than 10/29/19. • Professor will approve studies in the “feedback/notes” entry in each student’s iLearn. • Range 2014-2019 (no exceptions) • Must be completed research; a study that addresses an ethical issue in the concentration area. General Business Concentration may choose from any of the LFCoB concentrations. To help with focused summaries, choose a study that includes the following clearly stated sections/headings: Note: The33 selection must be a study, not an informative

Hint: A study is much easier to paraphrase and summarize then the researcher has implemented many levels of headings.
