Summarizing and Paraphrasing Business Research on an Ethical Issue.
Purpose:
One of the objectives to achieve our learning outcomes is:
Understanding the ethical issues related to business communication.
Therefore, students will choose a study in their concentration, completed between 2014-2019,
based on an ethical issue in their business concentration.
Students will, read, summarize and paraphrase the study.
Rationale:
In the professional world, one is often charged with summarizing research or other professional
publication for an employer/supervisor etc. to present at a meeting or conference. Or, one may
have to present a summary of a study in their own words. The practice is to directly and
purposefully apply the professional writing skills practiced in the midterm and to avoid any issue
of plagiarism in a professional career.
Assignment time frame, five weeks. Final version due 11/24/19-We don’t want to work into
the Fall Recess.
• Selection and reading of research, two weeks.
Starting with the Outline, all drafts will be submitted in the fully formatted
document.
• 10/29/19-Outline due (formatted document with selected study accessible);
Therefore, research selection must be approved and complete.
• 11/5/19-Reading completion and paraphrasing examples in draft one due.
• 11/19/18-Draft two due all sections drafted, summarized and paraphrased.
• 11/24/19-Final draft due.
• Debriefs and writing labs TBA
• Specific instructions and approaches on how to summarize each section of a
completed study will occur during lectures.
For example: how to summarize a literature review etc.
Follow all previous implemented formats (APA, fonts etc.). No Templates.

• Stay aware of “do not use words”.
• Use action verbs.
• Stay away from pronoun use.
• Use clear concise professional writing skills. This is not an opinion or critique paper.
