Employment History
September 2013 to August 2015: Lance Mason Solicitors (formerly Byrne
and Co Solicitors) Southport. Office relocated to Blackburn
I was employed as a Claimant Industrial Disease Solicitor, handling a large
caseload of mainly noise induced hearing loss claims, pre litigated and post
issue, with several asbestos and medical negligence matters. I assisted in the
setting up of the first response unit for hearing loss claims, providing training
and supervision to staff as required.
October 2009 to September 2013 Higgins & Co, Birkenhead
I was employed as a Claimant Industrial Disease Solicitor, handling a
caseload of asbestos related disease claims, including mesothelioma, both
pre litigated and post issue. I developed a thorough knowledge of all asbestos
related diseases, strong technical and research skills, the ability to interpret
medical evidence and the drafting of complex schedules of loss. I acquired an
understanding of clients’ needs, physical, emotional and psychological, in this
sensitive area, providing the clients and their families with practical support
and advice. I became proficient in Proclaim case management system.

I was employed on a temporary contract, as a customer services assistant in
the call centre of John Lewis’s department store.

I was employed as a Claimant Solicitor in the P.I. Department, risk assessing
and handling a caseload of mainly noise induced hearing loss claims and
some EL/PL.
September 2005 to November 2007 Weightmans, Liverpool
I was employed as a Defendant Solicitor, firstly in the workplace safety team
and then in the dedicated industrial disease team, representing insurer clients,
handling a caseload of EL/PL and industrial disease claims and assisting a
partner with asbestos, noise induced hearing loss, some HAV’S, dermatitis
and medical negligence claims.
2. May 2002 to August 2005 Berrymans Lace Mawer, Liverpool
As a paralegal, then trainee solicitor, qualifying in September 2005, I handled
a caseload of Defendant personal injury claims for insurer clients, assisting in
some multi track cases in areas of EL/PL, educational/medical negligence and
some disease. I attended at court assisting counsel in civil trials and coroner’s
inquests. I acted for 18 months as court clerk, attending a variety of hearings
for other fee earners, in District Judge’s chambers throughout the region. I
also undertook the first part of the Higher Rights of Audience, as part of PSC
at the College of Law in London.
1991 to 2002 Liverpool & London P&I Association Ltd, Liverpool
In the maritime industry, I handled stowaway and crew personal injury claims
worldwide, arranging medical treatment, repatriation and contractual
compensation, liaising with lawyers, surveyors, shipping unions and port
authorities. I was also involved in handling historic asbestos claims for the
shipping industry.
