The Independent Record Labels of the 1950’s and 1960’s
The Independent Record Labels of the 1950's and 1960's History of Music Production Eric Eller Throughout the 1950's and 1960's, a wave of
new musical movements by independent record labels and new artists emerged in the United States. This movement is captured in the stories of
those label creators and owners, and in the turbulent journey through their successes and failures. The first emergence was fueled by multiple
factors: competitive economic circumstances, up–and–coming local musical talent in conjunction with the independent labels and studio
owners, and the commercially viable musical interest and curiosity of consumers in these local artists. An article poses another causative factor
that makes sense: when rock and roll ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Philips would take a while to realize that a huge prospect was about to enter his life and studio. Elvis Presley, a young truck driver, had come in
to record two songs at a cost of $8 as a birthday present for his mother. Philips was actually out of the office so his secretary Marion Keisker
recorded Presley. Foreseeing talent, Keisker put aside a copy of the acetate master. Keisker continued to advocate to Philips the idea of
investing in Presley's commercially promising musical potential. Philips eventually agreed to give Presley a try and matched him up with local
guitarist Scotty Moore and bass player Bill Black. This group became quite successful, and together, under the direction of Philips, helped to
influence and redefine the 'rockabilly' genre of music at the time. It shows Sun's success that by '61, Phillips was able to buy a Presto 900–P
recorder. Elvis Presley's presence at the label allowed Philips to once again upgrade his system, this time opting for a Tube 76–D broadcast
console and two new Ampex 350 tape recorders. The growing sophistication of his studio rig is a testimony to the success that he accomplished
with such sensations as Presley. He delayed one tape head slightly in relation to the other, which made the signature "Sun Sound." While Philips
did find success for a while with artist Elvis Presley; Elvis' popularity outgrew the facilities and financial capabilities of Sun

Sound Recording, Its History And Impact On Media In The 21st Century
On this essay I will try to show how Sound Recording impacts media in the 21st century. But in order for me to do that I will need to explore
the history of Sound Recording, which started in the 19th Century.
Before 1877 sound could be recorded but not played. That year Thomas Alva Edison invented the talking tin foil, also known as the phonograph
(voice – writer), which enabled sound to be played back (the first speech to be recorded and played back was the poem by Sarah Josepha Hale
(1830) 'Mary had a little lamb', which, unfortunately "was not preserved, but in 1927, Edison re–enacted the recording for Fox Movietone news.

waltzes, polkas, cakewalks, and so on. Yet the most famous leader of such a band, John Philip Sousa, had doubts about the phonograph and
publicly denounced recordings as inferior to live music. Thus began a decades–long campaign against recorded music, sponsored by a
succession of music critics, social theorists, and musicians.
As one of those social theorists has argued, the real significance of the early phonograph was that it transformed the way people listened to
music. Where once music was a unique, live performance, experienced in a public place with a group, now it was heard privately in the home
and it was possible to hear the same "performance" over and over. According to this argument, the listening experience was cheapened."

Music was available almost anywhere, any time so people, in theory, would be exposed to a wider selection of music, which, some people
believed, would result in a social uplift process. However in the United States and Europe most people kept buying popular music instead of
what reformers called "good" music. "Good" music started being advertised more heavily, by companies like Victor, Columbia and Edison's, by
offering a wider variety of "good" music in their catalogs.
"Historians have also countered the argument that the phonograph degraded musical taste by noting

Dramatic Meaning Of Fly In Fly Out By Robert Kronk
'Fly In Fly Out' is autobiographical by Australian playwright Robert Kronk. The performance is set in a small Queensland mining town where
Jenny is about to graduate grade 10. Her struggle to balance her school work, her part times jobs (Chicken fry Shop and Hairdressers), her
relentless younger sister, her relationships and also trying to keep up with everyone's expectations of her. The intended dramatic meaning of this
play is to show what it is like to be a fly in fly out the community through teenagers eyes this is shown by realism: costumes, dialog and the
elements of drama that include focus, timing, space, and language.
The dramatic meaning of 'Fly In Fly Out' is to inform the audience about the realism throughout the performance.Realism is shown by the
costumes and the way that charters talk and interact with each other. In the play she changes the way she interacts with people from is at home
to when she is working..She also changers her clothing when she is at home she wears casual clothes to when she is at work wearing her
uniform Another example is in the scene when Jenny is working at the Chicken Fry shop as the new kid walks the way she is standing and
looking has changes. When she changes the way she interacts with other people and the way she dresses, is often how other teenaged girls
would act in those situations in a fly in fly out community.
The overall dramatic meaning of this play has been successfully shown by the elements of drama. The

Stax Museum History
I don't know how the wonderful music history of Memphis pass me by but somehow It did! I have always heard that Memphis is known for its
musical history, especially the blues, but I never investigated the theory for myself. The instructor at the college required me to write a paper
about the history of the Stax Museum in a reflection paper and I am glad she did. It influenced me to finally take the time to view the history of
Memphis firsthand starting with the Stax Museum. While I was there it came to my attention that the Stax Museum was a record company
established by Jim Stewart and Estelle Axton. The museum explained the original name for the company was satellite records and it showed me
the good and bad experiences within the company. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Difference Between Motown Vs. Stax
Motown vs. Stax
Emerging out of the turbulent civil rights period in the United States, the majority of the black minority population finally found a means by
which to express their voice to the world through music. This movement stemmed from two extremely different music studios located in
opposite regions of the United States. One of these companies arose out of the north, which very rigidly rigidly controlled their product and
polished young talent to fit an agenda. In contrast, its opposing studio began in the deep south and was raw, unrestricted, as well as organic,
choosing to let any artist play regardless of who they were or how they performed. Together, these music production studios helped break down
the racial segregation of black and white music, although they went about it in polar opposite ways.
Motown Record Company (briefly name Tamala Records), located in Detroit, Michigan was birthed by Berry Gordy on January 12, 1959. His
vision was for the company to produce black artists to bridge the gap between white and black segregated music markets and audiences. He
dreamed about making an entity that would appeal to both the wider white pop music audiences as well as the narrower black Rhythm and
Blues one. To obtain this objective, he began to make Black music more palatable to white pop music consumers not only by the appealing,
upbeat pop music arrangements and

The Revitalization Of The Sears Concourse Building
Is it possible for a community to entrust artists with the responsibility of redeveloping a neighborhood? After all, doubts are understandable;
artists are better at being artists and developers are best at being developers. As a matter of fact, does an artist/real estate developer even exist?
Just the mere thought seems impractical. Although this may be true in most cities, Memphis, Tennessee is currently in the middle of a
Renaissance, and artists are leading the way. The anchor of this Renaissance is the revitalization of The Sears Concourse building. The Art Deco
1.5 million square foot structure built in 1927 was once a source of pride for the city, attracting 30,000 visitors at its grand opening to marvel at
its decadence and eventually serving as a distribution hub for 50 years. Employing 1500 people and attracting thousands of visitors per day in
the department store, it was an economic pillar of the Crosstown neighborhood. However, in 2010, the building standing empty for 22 years,
became an eyesore that Crosstown co–founder Todd Richardson describes as " a beacon of hope that is now a disappointing reminder of unmet
expectations for the city". The surrounding neighborhood would keep hoping sooner or later, someone would eventually solve the dilemma of
what to do with so much space that had been empty for so long. Year after year, businesses boarded up, houses deteriorated and neighbors lost
hope. No one knew what to do; that is to say, until an artist, art

Summary Of The Mother And It Rainy Last Night
"The Mother" (1963) by Gwendolyn Brooks and a video of a poem called "It Rained Last Night: by Jasmine Nicole Mann & Alexis Marie.
The Mother and It Rained Last Night are both poems about abortion. They are similar with the focus of conveying the emotional pain and
anguish felt by the woman some unknown time after the abortion.
The Mother is a dramatic monologue that starts out in second person language where the speaker is speaking to an audience in the first stanza.
The use of rhymes and the specific breaks in the lines for dramatic pauses, along with purposeful commas to slow the flow, or no commas that
make one want to rush through the sentence, invoke powerful emotions of sadness.
The speaker starts with telling us how abortions will not let one forget and she goes on to expand on what is not forgotten. She utilizes
descriptive imagery such as in the sentence, 'the damp small pulps with a little or no hair' seems to infer to the status of the fetus's development
when aborted. She goes on to state the things that the children will not become and of all the things that as a mother of young children will not
experience. I appreciated the hyperbole in the last line of this stanza, 'Return for a snack of them, with gobbling mother–eye,' which seems to
infer to the way mothers tend to watch and cherish their children.
In the second stanza the tormenting emotions increase, and she starts speaking in first person and addressing her own pain providing us details

Stax Is Memphis Music Case Study
With this development, McEwen and a group of like–minded citizens headed to the Memphis City Council to implore them to enter the fray and
stop the South Side Church of God in Christ from tearing Stax down. Rufus Thomas, a Stax recording artist who recorded hits for the label over
its entire time in business, observed, "The city government and the people of Memphis need to stop being complacent about Stax. Graceland
has been turned into a top tourist attraction, the same could be done for Stax. Stax was Memphis music." On August 1st, Judy McEwen, Tela

working on marketing materials for the city and they did not want to mention Graceland because he died of a drug overdose and the music and
BBQ thing is just a bunch of drunk people. So all the cultural tourism...everybody in those days the city that looked like and wanted to be like

catch the attention of anyone who enjoys chewing gum by illustrating how their gum feels to be chewed. The person's mouth and throat have
turned into a mountainous scene including rabbits, deer, a field, cabins, and snow covering everything. The gum chewer's breath has turned into

All of the objects are located within someone's mouth as can be seen by the frozen teeth bordering the image. The cabin and lights seem to
represent something unwanted, like bad breath lingering after lunch. The avalanche represents the gum being chewed and the feeling of it
clearing away the bad breath or anything else in its path. The rabbits and deer running for safety from the avalanche help portray the intensity
that the advertisers want the buyers to feel. The snow covered mountains and trees helps to illustrate the intense cold that the would be gum
chewers will feel once they try the product. The way that the mountains and field are set up looks like someone's throat and tongue. The white
snow gives a sense of fresh cleanliness that comes only after an intense storm has washed everything away. The colors used in the ad are mostly
whites, grays, blacks, yellow, and a slight blue tinting. The colors contribute to the overall cold mountainous feeling of the ad. The blue shading
makes it easier to perceive the cold environment exhibited in the ad. The whites are mostly used in the area of the mouth that would be the

Polyphonic Hmi Marketing Strategy Essay
Recommendation: Target the record labels for promotion of HSS reports. Start with the initial enthusiasts like Ken Bunt of Hollywood Records
and use their testimonials to win other record labels. Make use of the business connections of the advisory board at Polyphonic to get better
reach to decision makers at record labels. Offer free trial reports to convince record labels and an initial lower cost for buyers along with
discounts for high volumes ordered over a fiscal year. In the long run, promote Human Music Interface as a complement for Hit Song Science
to maximize the revenue earning capability of a song (by ensuring better listener penetration) that is marked as a winner by HSS. Rationale:
Target segment rationalization: The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the software doesn't produce enough value for the artist segment. Suppose, HMI promotes specifically to this group and the
members show enough enthusiasm resulting in satisfactory initial penetration. Once, the initial curiosity about the quality of her own
performance is satisfied the artist won't find any alternative use of the report. If the report says their song has enough potential to be a great hit,
that conclusion does little for them because the record labels are not likely to acknowledge the credibility of the HMI report. All exhibits are
restricted to the US Market. Exhibit 1: Why USA is the best choice of geography? The rationale behind the choice is obvious when we consider
that it has the highest music market in the world and is [(12609 – 5001) / 12609] ~ 60% more in dollar values than the second highest, Japan.
Graphically, when compared to the top 5 music markets, USA looks significantly higher (for 2002): Exhibit 2: Cost savings to record labels The
HSS software will identify potential top 40 singles at an 80% success rate (based on trial run) as compared to the industry average of 10%
success rate. However, assuming a conservative approach let us assume that the actual success rate for HSS will be 50%. Now let's run our
analysis based on Sony where Polyphonic has the highest chances of making a good penetration. There are about 3000 singles released per year;
of which 10%

The Influence Of Satellite Records On African American...
In the times when racial tension was considerably large there was music that made things a little less divided, especially for the African
American culture worldwide. The unique culture had diverse styles such as blues, jazz, gospel, and country. These four musical genres had
America in an up roar. The Stax Museum, also known as Satellite Records, had such an impact on African American society and civil voice.
The record company made superior music that effected everyone around the world. Stax Museum, located in Memphis, TN, started off as a
small community based music outlet where race and religion were insignificant. This made Stax even more majestic. It ultimately led to the
success of the business. Stax Records contributed positively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
African Americans went from being slaves, to being free but still getting treated like nothing. They got none to little acknowledgment, to being
heard on radio stations and loved by so many people. The music that Stax Records made was the soul of Memphis. It was the voice that needed
to be heard. Famous artist such as Clara Thomas, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, and many more were the people being looked up to. Their music
was so eccentric and relatable that they would be legends forever. Although the Stax closed they still held on to the principles they started with.
They got a chance to turn it Stax into a museum, opened up school, and still have opportunities for the local community. Memphis wouldn't be
what it is now with out Stax. My experience at Stax was very unique. The video showed before the tour really made an impact on me. I learned

Making It: Success in the Music Industry Essay
Many people have dreams of being a part of the music industry and becoming successful musicians, but do not seem to do the research
necessary to make the dream come true. The music industry is a branch of the entertainment industry and is where music, whether it is
recordings or performances, is distributed and sold to the public. One of the problems is that people do not realize the risks that come with
being a part of the music industry and being a musician. There are many factors that come into play when deciding to pursue a career in the
music industry. Factors would include having noteworthy knowledge of music, originality, publicity, and business entitlement. To even begin
thinking about a successful career in the music industry, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The more time you put in, the better the abilities develop. Another way of gaining knowledge of music and to get experience is to start touring
with a band and get used to coming up with ideas for records. Brandon Boyd makes another statement in the article, "Brandon Boyd of
Incubus" by Jancee Dunn, writer for Rolling Stone magazine. Brandon explains, "We fight a lot when we're writing our records. You know, it's
five different opinions trying to make their way into one... Bands break up for stupid reasons" (Dunn 26). Experience is a valuable advantage in
the music industry that will make one find success much easier. When creating music, there must be something that appeals to the audience.
Music in this age must now be more original than ever. New genres of music are being born at a rapid pace, which makes being original a
difficult task. "Re–Tuning the Music Industry–Can They Re–Attain Business Resonance?" by Sudip Bhattacharjee, et al, writers for
Communication of the ACM, makes the following statement: "Each song is unique. Artists strive to be distinctive and constantly adapt and
innovate their offering. Consequently, music consumers face non–trivial search and evaluation tasks prior to each music purchase."
(Bhattacharjee 136). The willingness for consumers to buy music, whether it is an album or just one single song, increases when the music is
something they have never heard of before. A band such as Nirvana was able to do just that. In the

Robert Gordon's new book tells the history of Stax Records, the famous Memphis label responsible for some of Southern soul's definitive
recordings. Stax began in a Memphis garage in 1957 as Satellite Records, a project of Jim Stewart, soon joined by his sister Estelle Axton, both
white. From these humble beginnings, it enjoyed a fairy–tale rise, becoming a revered name, the home of the great Otis Redding, of "Soul Man"
and "In the Midnight Hour." Gordon tracks this glorious ascent–and a vertiginous fall–as the label eventually collapsed under its own weight.
He delivers a compelling tale with maximum effect, drawing on interviews with singers, musicians, songwriters, producers, secretaries, label
heads–everyone he could get his hands on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

administration's credibility among the [mostly black] employees." "We weren't a professional company before Al," says Booker T. Jones. "We

By the end of this commercial, a box filled with the origami birds spills on the driveway. There are a lot of birds that fall out, which is just
solidifying the fact that this is a popular, heavily consumed product. The use of origami is also very light–hearted, and shows how this type of
gum will bring happiness to people. That being said, Extra presents a higher emotional level than expected, it is no longer just a chewing gum,
but it is now a way to bring families closer together. The realism of the ad means buyers will have a stronger attachment to this product, since it
is heartfelt and relatable.
Another persuasive technique used, is the choice of colours, and their importance. This advertisement always uses "happy colours", some of the
main ones include; light pinks, purples, blues, whites and yellows. Using such light colours will keep the viewer in a content mindset,
throughout the commercial. Contrary to blacks and greys, which have a more depressing tone to them, these colours are appealing to the eye

be recording the album in Paris as the Band is French at studioras (http://studioras.free.fr/). They are a new studio and the daily costs would be
28O€ with engineer for an eight hour day which roughly represents 220£. I thought that recording was going to be much cheaper if done in

Review: Who Packs Your Parachute?
Who Packs Your Parachute?
On July 11, 2011, In Who Packs Your Parachute?, Gratitude for each member of your team critical for success
I recently read about the ordeal of US Navy jet pilot Charles Plumb, whose plane was destroyed by a surface–to–air missile on his 75th combat
mission. He parachuted out but was captured and spent six years in a communist Vietnamese prison. He somehow survived the nightmare and
now teaches leadership!
Years later, when Plumb was at a restaurant, a man came up and said, "You're Charles Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft
carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!
"How in the world did you know that?" questioned Plumb.
"I packed your parachute," the man replied.

How many leaders today are like Branson, sharing their 'limelight' with the team?
Branson has developed a level of trust with his team by showing gratitude. Branson knows "who packs his parachutes" and makes time to
acknowledge and recognise his employees. He shares that the secret to ensuring you continually show gratitude to your employees is by being a
good listener, lavishing praise to your "parachute packers" for a job well done constantly and never openly criticising people.
He adds, "To be a good leader, you've got to concentrate on bringing out the best in your people. People are no different than flowers – they
need to be cared for and watered all the time if not they will shrivel and die. This is true whether it's a switchboard operator or the chairman."
Do you really care about the people that 'pack your parachute'? Or do you only care to the extent that they deliver on the workload entrusted to
them. Employees aren't just resources working in the business; they are the business. An effective business is not the product, service, supply
chain or its magnificent business plan. It ultimately boils down to the group of enthusiastic and passionate people called employees who carry
out your well–designed business plan.

Character Analysis Of King Henry The V
King Henry the V, a strong young man who has shown to be a natural leader as he time and time again captures the hearts of people by his
moving speeches. There is no denying that Henry the V is an interesting character, both fear and loved by the people around him. As much as he
can be admirable leader clearly there are some very strange aspects about his character. When reading through the play one tends to wonder
who King Henry really is. As he enters in different scenarios and interacts with different people we see a dramatic shift in his personality.
Though on one hand it is not a bad thing, perhaps he understands what type of people want in different situation and he seems to mold his
personality accordingly. On the other hand, however, one can look at this as an act of deceit even comparing King Henry to the modern–day
politicians who are often accused of being deceitful by putting up a character for their own advantage. All in all, it is very evident that King
Henry has a multi faceted personality and he uses it to his own advantage. Shakespeare intentionally showed this in the play to show In his
speech at the wall of Harfleur King Henry shows a very brutal side of himself when trying to invade France showing how merciless and how
plainly vicious he can be . The purpose of this paper is to show how in the play, Henry the fifth by William Shakespeare and the film version by
Kenneth Branagh both show that Henry is that although Henry is not a good person morally speaking but is a successful king .Who uses his
many faces to deceive people but also create his empire .During the speech at the wall of Harfleur, King Henry shows a very brutal and harsh
side of his personality very different from what he has been showing before. In the dramatic text, the speech was delivered in blank verse to
show the status of who was speaking and to set the tone of the speech. In the film version, Branagh too interpreted this scene as a very intense
moment by the way in which showed the scene in the film. The scene was set by putting Henry in a dark alley on his horse , when he speaks the
camera was put at a low angle to make it seem as though the audience was looking up at him. He was placed in the dark with the

The Truth About the Music Industry Essay
Music is universally known as an expression of emotion, rebellion against the man, a way of life, a random collection of sounds, an annoying
thing kids listen to, or even a vacation from everything, but in reality music is free of all definition. The industry involved in buying, selling and
recording of music has grown so old, treacherous, and ignorant that it can not figure out the steps it needs to evolve with the rapidly expanding
music industry. Musicians and fans alike are screaming about the dire need of some modern day innovation in the market. Sadly the monstrous
corporations that dominate the market have put a lid on the competitive edge, stopped the innovative changes any smaller companies can make.
There are only three major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a band we have done some research of studio time and what it costs to have a record published and sold in stores. I understand that music is
hard to make a living off of because its hard enough to just pay for the things your band needs and that record labels lose a lot of money in
trying to finance an album that has such a high chance of failure. But major Record labels are creating a monopoly of the music industry which
limits the innovation and advancement other minor labels or musicians could provide by taking away competition. The market is dominated by
the "Big Three" (Sony, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group) who continuously buy out competition and all have many smaller
companies who have front names to cover up the fact that they are owned by the larger corporation. Ten years ago there were five major
companies that controlled the market place, in the beginning of 2005 Sony and BMG, Bertelsmann Music Group, decided to form a 50/50
partnership that would spread worldwide. Together they controlled a vast majority of American music and the only place in the world that was
not apart of this corporation was Japan because the business would be affected too much. Then in 2008 BMG announced that they were not
going to renew the contract because of falling sales which would have been really bad for Sony financially, so they decided to buy BM's portion
of the company for 1.2 billion, which included all of BMG's record

Polyphonic Hmi: Mixing Music and Math
Polyphonic Hmi: Mixing Music And Math
1 PROBLEM STATEMENT
After failing at their first attempt to enter the music industry, Polyphonic HMI (hereinafter referred to as the "Company"), is releasing Hit Song
Science (HSS), software used to predict future hit songs with 80% accuracy. An integrated marketing strategy, needs to be developed to launch
an innovative product, in an industry typically known for "gut instinct" and therefore likely to meet strong customer resistance. Thus there are
two key challenges to address: what is the target market and desired positioning of HSS and what is the plan for marketing this product to
achieve that positioning, given a tight "shoestring" budget.
2 SITUATION ANALYSIS

Producers are similar to A&R people but can also be engaged in many other different aspects of the production chain from editing the song to
marketing the artist. Finally, the largest target customer segment is the unsigned artists, comprising tens of thousands of individuals desperately
hoping to secure a recording contract with labels, while working on a tight budget.
The Polyphonic HMI Company is a subsidiary of Barcelona based Grupo AIA and was established in 2002 to market a tool that uses a process
to "number crunch" music into its constituent mathematical characteristics, such as tempo, harmony, etc. Based on these, a dotted visual
representation is created where songs with similar characteristics are positioned close to each other, thereby creating a mapping of known hit
songs, that they call hit clusters (see Exhibit I). The extent to which new releases "fit" those clusters should indicate their hit potential. While
not known to the music industry, Polyphonic HMI has already attempted a market penetration with a music recommendation system (based on
the HSS core technology) to be used close to the end of the value chain, the retailers, to support them in increasing sales to consumers.
Declining market conditions did not make this a successful attempt. Albeit, the Company works with a small group of scientists and has the
ability to borrow specialized resources from the parent Company, keeping running costs

At the beginning of 2009, 65 percent of purchases in the music market was still attributed to CD sales (Whitney, 2009). On the other hand, our
other research has shown strong predictions that CD purchases will continue to steadily decline in the future. This means that Sony needs to
find other ways to sell their music. Sony has had many opportunities to tap into the online music market, but they don't seem aggressive enough
in their attempts to become a strong competitor. One year ago, Sony partnered up with Wind–Up Records with an ambition to stimulate their
online sales with computers and mobile phones (Digital Deal Expands Long–term Pertnership, 2009). This would allow them to compete with
iTunes and the iPhone made by Apple. It has been over a year since that partnership was formed, and there is no indication of anything like that
happening anytime soon. Furthermore, HP computers will soon include a European digital music software and they want to distribute Sony's

Gaga Case Study Essay
Lady Gaga Case
1) As Troy Carter the option I would pursue for Lady Gaga is the first one which is of continuing with the arena tour. It does not make any
financial sense to cancel the show completely given the fact that they have already incurred sunk cost of $4 million in developing the Fame
Kills Tour with Kanye West and this amount cannot be recovered. So the third option is out of the picture. In any business, those who take risks
can reap great rewards than those who are afraid to do so. Therefore it's better to build upon the already laid foundation and proceed with the
tours than cancelling because of fear of incurring more loses.
The other option is to go for a smaller theater tour. Usually in the music industry upcoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This deal enables them to have a share of all the artist revenue streams including concert ticket sales, music sales, merchandising and

Interscope are likely to go for the arena tour because it has high ticket sales and large capacity and it means high profits if the percentage of
ticket sold is 100%. More so to WME it means more money to them due to high gross profit gained by Gaga. The success of the tour results in
Gaga's increase of fame which can bring in more revenues from other avenues like merchandising, commercials or endorsements. So at the end
of the day these three partners has a lot to gain hence the reason why they have the same preferences of going for the big arena tour in spite of
the risk involved.
4) Gaga's launch as an artist up to 2009 was a success. Her talent and unique personality opened doors for her. Since it was hard to get new

Confidentiality extends past privacy and protects identifiable data. So, what is considered confidential patient information? Confidential patient
information consists of Protected Health Information (PHI). The PHI contains the patient's demographic information, social security number,
diagnoses codes, medical record number, name of doctors, conversations between healthcare providers, billing information, images of the

They were never aloud on the street in the first place" says Deanie Parker during her interview. That quote stuck with me for some time and led
me to dive deeper into the politics of public space and how it could relate to this piece. The final component to this piece is the definition of
place and lens within the city's legacy and youth culture. The concept of youth having autonomy in public spaces is nonexistent in american
culture. Youth are trained from a young age that adults control their use of public spaces. Children are welcome in public space as long as an
adult controls how the child interacts. For instance, an adult of teacher is in control of how a child interacts in the sandbox, the playground and
during recess. Once the child enters middle school and teen years, some autonomy develops which puts adults on edge as they want to control
how youth behave in these spaces. Our culture dictates to youth that they are not allowed to enter spaces without the accompaniment of an
adult. Social order dictates that groups of teenagers are something to be fearful of. Place is crucial to the development and well being and of
young people. When youth have no public spaces to gather or perform without the risk of being questioned by police this becomes an issue in

Got Soul? In 1975, Jim Steward made history that changed Memphis for a lifetime. He discovered a small movie theater that later expanded to
the biggest recording studio in the city. Quickly Stewart realized that he had nothing. He had no funds, no equipment, or artist. But, to the
rescue comes his sister, Estelle Axton. For the simple fact that she was a bank clerk he confided in her for help. She mortgaged her house for a
while to buy better equipment for the new recording studio. Then in an instance, the new recording studio was growing more and more each
day. Satellite Record started out as a mixture of country, gospel, and southern styles.
The different genres recorded at the recording studio is what made it widely important. After a lot of time and effort a recording was finally
made in the old movie theater that was transformed to Satellite Records. The semi–new recording studio gained status around Memphis that
allowed them a partner deal with Atlantic Records in no time. After accepting the deal, Satellite Records was definitely put in the spot light. Jim
Stewart and his sister Estelle Axton later changed the company's name to Stax, which was a combination of the first letters in their last names.
Stax Records wanted to give everyone in the city changes to prove their musical abilities, so they developed an "open–door policy" that soon
attracted a mixture African American and Caucasian R&B artist. Stax began growing a very diverse population of musicians which

Mallard is unaware to the beauty of life breaks down under the powerful impact of emotion. She thinks it worthless to continue her existence
(Jamil 216). In the story the narrator states, "It was only yesterday she had thought with a shudder that life might be long" (Chopin 338). The
narrator also points that Mrs. Mallard is not struck, as "many women" have been, by "a paralyzed inability" to accept the painful sense of loss.
This "storm" that "haunts her body seems to reach her soul" ultimately purges her of the sufferance of a meaningless life, as it becomes
motivation that leads to her new freedom (Jamil 216). Mrs. Mallard's heart trouble is not so much a physical disorder like the characters of the
story think. It actually is a sign of a woman who has surrendered her heart to the culture of paternalism. The physiological outlook of her heart
condition looks as if a result of the burden of allowing an individual's powerful will to overlook and smother her own will. Mrs. Mallard set
aside the social aspect of the world and allowed her individuality to develop (Jamil 216). Throughout the story, the narrator says "a monstrous

describe the jazz musicians that they had as "giants", such as Lester Young and Sidney Bechet. The fact that they were able to have connections

Atlantic Records created many big soul hits as well (Callahan and Edwards). This record company was able to do it all. Another big time period

The Giver Release Analysis
INTRO: One of Lois Lowry's bestselling books that I'll be discussing is "The Giver". In "The Giver" one of the main things that were
mentioned several times is Release. What is release? Release is the death by lethal injection, could be as punishment or a form of killing and if
someone has been released they are immediately sent to Elsewhere. The three main ideas about release are The Release of Roberto, The Release
of Twins and The Release of Rosemary.
RELEASE OF ROBERTO:

Rosemary was known as the failed Receiver in the community. She was also known as the Giver's daughter. Rosemary was a remarkable young

pain like what he gave to Jonas it was different. He transferred a memory of a child taken from its parents, he gave her loneliness. Rosemary
was very stunned as it ended and shocked. He also gave her anguish of many kinds, poverty, hunger, and terror. Rosemary could not handle the
loneliness anymore she left the annex and requested for release. As a result of Rosemary being released is, the memories that she had were
returned to the community which resulted chaos. The giver was not able to guide and comfort the community members. Even though her
memories were mostly positive, the community was not used to having memories. After Rosemary's release, she was never to be spoken of
again. The community waited a long time before choosing another Receiver. They had to choose someone who would be a successor.
"Rosemary had only those five weeks worth, and most of them were good ones. But there were those few terrible memories, the ones that had
overwhelmed her. For a while, they overwhelmed the community. All those feelings! They'd never experienced that before." The meaning of

Music Is The Most Popular Music
According to Oxford's dictionary, music is "the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form
harmony, and expression of emotion." Music has been around for a very long time. Music has been an influenced since the beginning of time
from the beats and rhythm to just make a nice flow of a song. Music history is sometimes a historical viewpoint in society. Besides, music is
breaking down into five main categories: Jazz, Classical, Rhythm and Blues, Pop, Rap, and Country. But, Rap music is the most popular music
in today's society. In addition, being that Rap music is popular, Rap music is also the most corrupted music now a day. So, how does music
influences positive and negative effects on people and society? Although, music has been around for several years, there are so many
differences and similarities in music; for instance, all music can be related by old music that was made, or there is new music that is originated.
The differences in music is the many genres and its effects on people and the society. The cost of albums from the 1960's to today's music are
much higher. Another difference in music is back in the 1960's talent was a part of music, but in today's music all you need is auto tunes. The
similarities are that all music is alike in some way. Also, that music may sound the same. For instance, Marvin Gaye's song "Got to Give It Up"

The film did a very good job of portraying the emotions the characters were experiencing during the play.
The strongest scene in he book would have to be when Walter turned down the money he would get for not moving into the neighborhood . I
felt this took a lot of guts on his part. I also thought that this was a turning point in the novel. By Walter not accepting the money it showed that
he not only grew through out the play, but also that he put many things into perspective. His family became the most integrate part of his life, by
the end of the novel he realized what was more important. He took a stand for not only him self but for his family when he didn't accept the

Walter seems to be overcome with a search for power and a drive to become wealthy and leave the life of being a worker behind him. It also
shows that he cares for his family seeing how he is striving to give them the best, but that aspect is overshadowed by his greed. I feel the scene
also shows the Younger family at its lowest point in the movie. Walter is on the complete edge and is thinking of stealing a community's money
and the rest of the family, besides Momma, seemed to lose their faith and trust in him. When things seemed hopeless with the loss of the money,
they only became worse as a loss in more than money occurred. A loss in their character, faith, history, and respect for each other overcame the
family, particularly Walter and Beneatha. Nevertheless, Momma soon sets Beneatha straight with an emotional and positive speech about how
there is "always something left to love" and sets the standard that the family should adhere to. It marks the turning point at the end of the movie
There were few differences between the movie and the book Raisin in the Sun. I felt that the movie just gave you a visual to understand and
relate to the characters more. The one major difference between the two was the sequence of events from the movie to the book.
The most dramatic scene for me was when Bobo tells Walter Lee that Willie ran off with his money. I really

The Greed of Music Industry Executives and Declining Record Sales
The music recording industry is in trouble. For several years now, sales of new and popular music have steadily declined and show no sign of
changing. The record companies are quick to blame the growing popularity of the Internet; music is being traded in a digital form online, often
anonymously, with the use of file–sharing programs such as Morpheus, KaZaA, and Imesh, to name a few. The RIAA (Recording Industry
Association of America) succeeded in disbanding the pioneer Internet file–sharing program, Napster, but is facing confrontation with similar

Not only are the companies themselves facing hard times, but the retail stores that sell music are also suffering their own losses. "Musicland
Stores, the largest music retailer in the U.S. continues to report losses and declining sales...For the third quarter, the Minnetonka, Minn.–based
company reports a new loss of $16.1 million, compared with a loss last year of $144.6 million" (Jeffrey). The company was even forced to close
some of its stores. "At quarter's end, Musicland operated 1476 stores...During the quarter, the company closed the following: Nine Sam
Goody/Musiclands, two Media plays, one On Cud, and on U.K. store" (Jeffrey). This problem hits home in Vermillion, South Dakota, where the
local On Cue store, the only place to buy entertainment products like CDs and audiocassettes, was forced to close because of insufficient
revenues. Inhabitants of Vermillion are now forced to travel anywhere from 30 to 60 miles away to purchase music offline. While this town
obviously reflects a very small percentage of consumers, the lack of immediately available music products certainly will not help the declining
record sales.

course will be taught through a completely different lens, with digital media at the foreground of each lesson. To fully understand our digital
culture, one must first get a firm grasp on the situation at hand, and then look to the future to predict how our changes today will affect
tomorrow. Summary of Literature The main aspect of change in music distribution, which almost all of the new studies of the genre are
incorporating, lies in digital distribution. One way that this is changing the face of the industry is how it allows "local" bands to spread their
music across a much wider audience than would normally be possible. One article, titled "Local musicians building global audiences: Social
capital and the distribution of user–created content on– and off–line", deals with this such change. Building upon existing work regarding
interactive online content creation, this article examines local–level music production and distribution to demonstrate how musicians cultivate
audiences through social capital that is exchanged both on– and off–line. More importantly, it examines how they do this digitally to build an

Analysis of the Music Industry
Music may be defined romantically as `the food of love ' (Shakespeare) or more prosaically as `sound with particular characteristics '
(Wikipedia), but it is undeniably a `vibrant artform ' (Arts Council England) and one which touches more people, in more ways, than any other
art form.
In commercial terms, music certainly generates a higher market value than the other arts, although a comprehensive market size for music in all
its manifestations is impossible to calculate. Key Note has put a value of £3.03bn on consumer spending on music in 2005, derived from three
sectors: recorded music (which accounts for the bulk of the market), live music and musical instruments. However, data for other related
markets are included, such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each chapter of the report starts with more detailed definitions and coverage.
For coverage of recorded music, Key Note is grateful to the statistics and commentary provided by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI),
detailed later in this chapter under Key Trade Associations. For other sectors, an important component of the report is the field research into the
attitudes and buying habits of UK consumers with regard to music, conducted for Key Note by NEMS Market Research specifically for this
report.
Report Background
This is the first edition of a Market Review of the Music Industry published by Key Note. Although coverage is targeted mainly at the UK
market, the global aspects of the music industry are given full acknowledgment. In particular, it is recorded music – by far the largest market by
value – that has evolved a global structure. Since 2004, it has featured just four `majors ' owning dozens of famous labels and holding recording
contracts (or back catalogues) for the vast majority of the world 's top–selling recording artists.
The `big four ' major groups, including the UK 's own `home–grown ' giant, EMI Group PLC, also own rights to publish and to license the
majority of successful songs, theme music, etc. These rights are increasingly important as the market moves towards a more fluid, ICT

Nightingale Community Hospital Jcaho Audit Preparation:...
Running Head: INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AUDIT 1
Executive Summary
Nightingale Community Hospital is preparing for a Joint Commission on Accreditation of
Healthcare Organizations, or JCAHO, audit. In preparation of the coming audit, Nightingale has released JCAHO's Priority Focus Areas for the
hospital. The priority focus areas outlined are Information Management, Medication Management, Communication, and Infection Control. The
area of focus for this assessment will be Information Management. Information management is one of the most important systems in health
care. Maintaining a complete and accurate record of the patient's health care information. The patient's health record includes all information

recommendation for departmental compliance training or organization–wide compliance training. The departments leaders will be responsible
for developing a compliance training plan, performing the designated training, then documenting who attended training as well as the training
dates. Additional audits will be performed at three month intervals post–training to ensure Nightingale Community Hospital's and The Joint
Commission's standards are met on a consistent basis.
The next priority focus area is RC.01.01.01 which ensures that the hospital maintains a
separate, complete medical record for each patient. The EPs for this priority focus area include the medical record retention policy and the
release of medical records policy (The Joint Commission, 2012). Nightingale Community Hospital appears to be compliant with the Joint
Commission's standards in this priority focus area.
The final priority focus area, RC.01.04.01, which ensures that the hospital audits their
medical records, has three significantly more detailed EPs: 1. The hospital conducts an ongoing review of medical records at the point of care,
based on the following indicators: presence, timeliness, legibility (whether handwritten or printed), accuracy, authentication, and completeness
of data and information. 2. The hospital measures its medical record delinquency rate at regular intervals, but no less

Comprehensive is a general multi–system examination or complete examination of a single organ system and other symptomatic or related body
area or organ system. The type and extent of the examination is determined by clinical judgment, patient's history, and nature of the problem.
The classification of E&M services endorse four types of clinical medical decision making: straightforward, low complexity, moderate
complexity, and high complexity. Clinical decisions refer to the complexity of establishing a diagnosis or choosing a management option. The
complexity is determined by the volume of possible diagnoses or management options, and the volume or complexity of medical records,
diagnostic tests, or other information that must be obtained, reviewed, and analyzed. The risk of complications, morbidity or mortality, and
comorbidities associated with the patient 's problem, the diagnostic procedure or management options also determines the classification of
medical decision making (Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, 2014b). The International
Classification of Diseases (ICD) is the standard diagnostic tool for epidemiology, health management and clinical purposes. ICD includes the
evaluation of the overall health conditions of populations and is used to surveil the incidence and prevalence of diseases and other health issues.
ICD is used by the APRN to classify diseases

Background Checks
The Preying Background Jasmine Sophus COM/156 January 9, 2012 Stacy Tye–Williams Abstract Criminal record checks are high in demand
for decision makers to predict future unwanted behaviors during employment screening. Employers conduct background checks on job
applicants for several reasons. One reason may be to confirm their moral character. Another reason may be the desire to assess their risk of
committing crimes that could cause somatic, monetary, and reputational damage to the company. Consequently, if a person has had their record
expunged then it isn't protecting the company at all, it only allows them to see what they would like. Background checks act as a filter for the
ideal candidate, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pre–Qualified to get Disqualified Background checks hinder many qualified people from getting the positions they deserve. Many people have
made mistakes in their youthful past but have since turned themselves around and now live a respectful life (BLUMSTEIN & NAKAMURA,
2009). Everyone has made a mistake in the past but after learning from their mistakes many have redeemed themselves and become better
people. Criminal background checks reveal the individual's old criminal record and highlight that fact, which overshadows a law–abiding life
led since (BLUMSTEIN & NAKAMURA, 2009). People have started families and want to set examples for their children. Many of these
people have earned college degrees hoper for a better future. Degrees are the same no matter where you get them or who gets them. A degree
doesn't reflect a hard worked education that you have succeeded not a pass that you are haunted by. A person with a past has to put forth the
same amount of effort to get a degree as someone with no criminal history. If they've worked to obtain the degree then they should have the
same opportunity regardless of their past. Same Old Person, New Clean Record People Who Have Clean Records are No Innocent, or Less
Capable than Those Who Have A Criminal History. Today we have the options of having our record expunged or sealed. Having you record
sealed means the public will not have access to it but certain parts of the government can access it.

The Independent Record Labels Of The 1950’S And 1960’S

  • 1. The Independent Record Labels of the 1950’s and 1960’s The Independent Record Labels of the 1950's and 1960's History of Music Production Eric Eller Throughout the 1950's and 1960's, a wave of new musical movements by independent record labels and new artists emerged in the United States. This movement is captured in the stories of those label creators and owners, and in the turbulent journey through their successes and failures. The first emergence was fueled by multiple factors: competitive economic circumstances, up–and–coming local musical talent in conjunction with the independent labels and studio owners, and the commercially viable musical interest and curiosity of consumers in these local artists. An article poses another causative factor that makes sense: when rock and roll ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philips would take a while to realize that a huge prospect was about to enter his life and studio. Elvis Presley, a young truck driver, had come in to record two songs at a cost of $8 as a birthday present for his mother. Philips was actually out of the office so his secretary Marion Keisker recorded Presley. Foreseeing talent, Keisker put aside a copy of the acetate master. Keisker continued to advocate to Philips the idea of investing in Presley's commercially promising musical potential. Philips eventually agreed to give Presley a try and matched him up with local guitarist Scotty Moore and bass player Bill Black. This group became quite successful, and together, under the direction of Philips, helped to influence and redefine the 'rockabilly' genre of music at the time. It shows Sun's success that by '61, Phillips was able to buy a Presto 900–P recorder. Elvis Presley's presence at the label allowed Philips to once again upgrade his system, this time opting for a Tube 76–D broadcast console and two new Ampex 350 tape recorders. The growing sophistication of his studio rig is a testimony to the success that he accomplished with such sensations as Presley. He delayed one tape head slightly in relation to the other, which made the signature "Sun Sound." Sound Recording, Its History And Impact On Media In The 21st Century On this essay I will try to show how Sound Recording impacts media in the 21st century. But in order for me to do that I will need to explore the history of Sound Recording, which started in the 19th Century. Before 1877 sound could be recorded but not played. That year Thomas Alva Edison invented the talking tin foil, also known as the phonograph (voice – writer), which enabled sound to be played back (the first speech to be recorded and played back was the poem by Sarah Josepha Hale (1830) 'Mary had a little lamb', which, unfortunately "was not preserved, but in 1927, Edison re–enacted the recording for Fox Movietone news. It can be heard on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... waltzes, polkas, cakewalks, and so on. Yet the most famous leader of such a band, John Philip Sousa, had doubts about the phonograph and publicly denounced recordings as inferior to live music. Thus began a decades–long campaign against recorded music, sponsored by a succession of music critics, social theorists, and musicians. As one of those social theorists has argued, the real significance of the early phonograph was that it transformed the way people listened to music. Where once music was a unique, live performance, experienced in a public place with a group, now it was heard privately in the home and it was possible to hear the same "performance" over and over. According to this argument, the listening experience was cheapened." Recording History.org(?) Music was available almost anywhere, any time so people, in theory, would be exposed to a wider selection of music, which, some people believed, would result in a social uplift process. However in the United States and Europe most people kept buying popular music instead of what reformers called "good" music. "Good" music started being advertised more heavily, by companies like Victor, Columbia and Edison's, by offering a wider variety of "good" music in their catalogs. "Historians have also countered the argument that the phonograph degraded musical taste by noting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The performance is set in a small Queensland mining town where Jenny is about to graduate grade 10. Her struggle to balance her school work, her part times jobs (Chicken fry Shop and Hairdressers), her relentless younger sister, her relationships and also trying to keep up with everyone's expectations of her. The intended dramatic meaning of this play is to show what it is like to be a fly in fly out the community through teenagers eyes this is shown by realism: costumes, dialog and the elements of drama that include focus, timing, space, and language. The dramatic meaning of 'Fly In Fly Out' is to inform the audience about the realism throughout the performance.Realism is shown by the costumes and the way that charters talk and interact with each other. In the play she changes the way she interacts with people from is at home to when she is working..She also changers her clothing when she is at home she wears casual clothes to when she is at work wearing her uniform Another example is in the scene when Jenny is working at the Chicken Fry shop as the new kid walks the way she is standing and looking has changes. When she changes the way she interacts with other people and the way she dresses, is often how other teenaged girls would act in those situations in a fly in fly out community. I have always heard that Memphis is known for its musical history, especially the blues, but I never investigated the theory for myself. The instructor at the college required me to write a paper about the history of the Stax Museum in a reflection paper and I am glad she did. It influenced me to finally take the time to view the history of Memphis firsthand starting with the Stax Museum. • 9. Difference Between Motown Vs. Stax Motown vs. Stax Emerging out of the turbulent civil rights period in the United States, the majority of the black minority population finally found a means by which to express their voice to the world through music. This movement stemmed from two extremely different music studios located in opposite regions of the United States. One of these companies arose out of the north, which very rigidly rigidly controlled their product and polished young talent to fit an agenda. In contrast, its opposing studio began in the deep south and was raw, unrestricted, as well as organic, choosing to let any artist play regardless of who they were or how they performed. Together, these music production studios helped break down the racial segregation of black and white music, although they went about it in polar opposite ways. Motown Record Company (briefly name Tamala Records), located in Detroit, Michigan was birthed by Berry Gordy on January 12, 1959. His vision was for the company to produce black artists to bridge the gap between white and black segregated music markets and audiences. He dreamed about making an entity that would appeal to both the wider white pop music audiences as well as the narrower black Rhythm and Blues one. To obtain this objective, he began to make Black music more palatable to white pop music consumers not only by the appealing, upbeat pop music arrangements and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Revitalization Of The Sears Concourse Building Is it possible for a community to entrust artists with the responsibility of redeveloping a neighborhood? After all, doubts are understandable; artists are better at being artists and developers are best at being developers. As a matter of fact, does an artist/real estate developer even exist? Just the mere thought seems impractical. Although this may be true in most cities, Memphis, Tennessee is currently in the middle of a Renaissance, and artists are leading the way. The anchor of this Renaissance is the revitalization of The Sears Concourse building. The Art Deco 1.5 million square foot structure built in 1927 was once a source of pride for the city, attracting 30,000 visitors at its grand opening to marvel at its decadence and eventually serving as a distribution hub for 50 years. Employing 1500 people and attracting thousands of visitors per day in the department store, it was an economic pillar of the Crosstown neighborhood. However, in 2010, the building standing empty for 22 years, became an eyesore that Crosstown co–founder Todd Richardson describes as " a beacon of hope that is now a disappointing reminder of unmet expectations for the city". The surrounding neighborhood would keep hoping sooner or later, someone would eventually solve the dilemma of what to do with so much space that had been empty for so long. • 13. Summary Of The Mother And It Rainy Last Night "The Mother" (1963) by Gwendolyn Brooks and a video of a poem called "It Rained Last Night: by Jasmine Nicole Mann & Alexis Marie. The Mother and It Rained Last Night are both poems about abortion. They are similar with the focus of conveying the emotional pain and anguish felt by the woman some unknown time after the abortion. The Mother is a dramatic monologue that starts out in second person language where the speaker is speaking to an audience in the first stanza. The use of rhymes and the specific breaks in the lines for dramatic pauses, along with purposeful commas to slow the flow, or no commas that make one want to rush through the sentence, invoke powerful emotions of sadness. The speaker starts with telling us how abortions will not let one forget and she goes on to expand on what is not forgotten. She utilizes descriptive imagery such as in the sentence, 'the damp small pulps with a little or no hair' seems to infer to the status of the fetus's development when aborted. She goes on to state the things that the children will not become and of all the things that as a mother of young children will not experience. I appreciated the hyperbole in the last line of this stanza, 'Return for a snack of them, with gobbling mother–eye,' which seems to infer to the way mothers tend to watch and cherish their children. In the second stanza the tormenting emotions increase, and she starts speaking in first person and addressing her own pain providing us details ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the times when racial tension was considerably large there was music that made things a little less divided, especially for the African American culture worldwide. Character Analysis Of King Henry The V King Henry the V, a strong young man who has shown to be a natural leader as he time and time again captures the hearts of people by his moving speeches. There is no denying that Henry the V is an interesting character, both fear and loved by the people around him. As much as he can be admirable leader clearly there are some very strange aspects about his character. When reading through the play one tends to wonder who King Henry really is. As he enters in different scenarios and interacts with different people we see a dramatic shift in his personality. Though on one hand it is not a bad thing, perhaps he understands what type of people want in different situation and he seems to mold his personality accordingly. On the other hand, however, one can look at this as an act of deceit even comparing King Henry to the modern–day politicians who are often accused of being deceitful by putting up a character for their own advantage. All in all, it is very evident that King Henry has a multi faceted personality and he uses it to his own advantage. Shakespeare intentionally showed this in the play to show In his speech at the wall of Harfleur King Henry shows a very brutal side of himself when trying to invade France showing how merciless and how plainly vicious he can be . The purpose of this paper is to show how in the play, Henry the fifth by William Shakespeare and the film version by Kenneth Branagh both show that Henry is that although Henry is not a good person morally speaking but is a successful king .Who uses his many faces to deceive people but also create his empire .During the speech at the wall of Harfleur, King Henry shows a very brutal and harsh side of his personality very different from what he has been showing before. In the dramatic text, the speech was delivered in blank verse to show the status of who was speaking and to set the tone of the speech. In the film version, Branagh too interpreted this scene as a very intense moment by the way in which showed the scene in the film. The scene was set by putting Henry in a dark alley on his horse , when he speaks the camera was put at a low angle to make it seem as though the audience was looking up at him. But major Record labels are creating a monopoly of the music industry which limits the innovation and advancement other minor labels or musicians could provide by taking away competition. An integrated marketing strategy, needs to be developed to launch an innovative product, in an industry typically known for "gut instinct" and therefore likely to meet strong customer resistance. Thus there are two key challenges to address: what is the target market and desired positioning of HSS and what is the plan for marketing this product to achieve that positioning, given a tight "shoestring" budget. 2 SITUATION ANALYSIS Polyphonic HMI wants to ... Producers are similar to A&R people but can also be engaged in many other different aspects of the production chain from editing the song to marketing the artist. Finally, the largest target customer segment is the unsigned artists, comprising tens of thousands of individuals desperately hoping to secure a recording contract with labels, while working on a tight budget. The Polyphonic HMI Company is a subsidiary of Barcelona based Grupo AIA and was established in 2002 to market a tool that uses a process to "number crunch" music into its constituent mathematical characteristics, such as tempo, harmony, etc. Based on these, a dotted visual representation is created where songs with similar characteristics are positioned close to each other, thereby creating a mapping of known hit songs, that they call hit clusters (see Exhibit I). The extent to which new releases "fit" those clusters should indicate their hit potential. While not known to the music industry, Polyphonic HMI has already attempted a market penetration with a music recommendation system (based on the HSS core technology) to be used close to the end of the value chain, the retailers, to support them in increasing sales to consumers. Declining market conditions did not make this a successful attempt. Albeit, the Company works with a small group of scientists and has the ability to borrow specialized resources from the parent Company, keeping running costs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, our other research has shown strong predictions that CD purchases will continue to steadily decline in the future. This means that Sony needs to find other ways to sell their music. Sony has had many opportunities to tap into the online music market, but they don't seem aggressive enough in their attempts to become a strong competitor. One year ago, Sony partnered up with Wind–Up Records with an ambition to stimulate their online sales with computers and mobile phones (Digital Deal Expands Long–term Pertnership, 2009). This would allow them to compete with iTunes and the iPhone made by Apple. It has been over a year since that partnership was formed, and there is no indication of anything like that happening anytime soon. Furthermore, HP computers will soon include a European digital music software and they want to distribute Sony's music since they are one of the largest record labels in the world. • 49. Gaga Case Study Essay Lady Gaga Case 1) As Troy Carter the option I would pursue for Lady Gaga is the first one which is of continuing with the arena tour. It does not make any financial sense to cancel the show completely given the fact that they have already incurred sunk cost of $4 million in developing the Fame Kills Tour with Kanye West and this amount cannot be recovered. So the third option is out of the picture. In any business, those who take risks can reap great rewards than those who are afraid to do so. Therefore it's better to build upon the already laid foundation and proceed with the tours than cancelling because of fear of incurring more loses. The other option is to go for a smaller theater tour. Usually in the music industry upcoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So since the small venue tour is not profitable Live Nation, WME, and Hew record label Interscope are likely to go for the arena tour because it has high ticket sales and large capacity and it means high profits if the percentage of ticket sold is 100%. More so to WME it means more money to them due to high gross profit gained by Gaga. The success of the tour results in Gaga's increase of fame which can bring in more revenues from other avenues like merchandising, commercials or endorsements. So at the end of the day these three partners has a lot to gain hence the reason why they have the same preferences of going for the big arena tour in spite of the risk involved. 4) Gaga's launch as an artist up to 2009 was a success. The final component to this piece is the definition of place and lens within the city's legacy and youth culture. The concept of youth having autonomy in public spaces is nonexistent in american culture. Youth are trained from a young age that adults control their use of public spaces. Children are welcome in public space as long as an adult controls how the child interacts. For instance, an adult of teacher is in control of how a child interacts in the sandbox, the playground and during recess. Once the child enters middle school and teen years, some autonomy develops which puts adults on edge as they want to control how youth behave in these spaces. Our culture dictates to youth that they are not allowed to enter spaces without the accompaniment of an adult. Social order dictates that groups of teenagers are something to be fearful of. After she had received the news, she then went by herself in her room alone (Chopin 337). In the story the narrator states, "It was only yesterday she had thought with a shudder that life might be long" (Chopin 338). The narrator also points that Mrs. Mallard is not struck, as "many women" have been, by "a paralyzed inability" to accept the painful sense of loss. This "storm" that "haunts her body seems to reach her soul" ultimately purges her of the sufferance of a meaningless life, as it becomes motivation that leads to her new freedom (Jamil 216). Mrs. Mallard's heart trouble is not so much a physical disorder like the characters of the story think. It actually is a sign of a woman who has surrendered her heart to the culture of paternalism. The physiological outlook of her heart condition looks as if a result of the burden of allowing an individual's powerful will to overlook and smother her own will. Mrs. Mallard set aside the social aspect of the world and allowed her individuality to develop (Jamil 216). Throughout the story, the narrator says "a monstrous joy" and "Free! Callahan and Edwards describe the jazz musicians that they had as "giants", such as Lester Young and Sidney Bechet. The fact that they were able to have connections with these "giants" shows that from the start, they appealed to the big stars and I believe this showed they were destined for stardom. Music Is The Most Popular Music According to Oxford's dictionary, music is "the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form harmony, and expression of emotion." Music has been around for a very long time. Music has been an influenced since the beginning of time from the beats and rhythm to just make a nice flow of a song. Music history is sometimes a historical viewpoint in society. Besides, music is breaking down into five main categories: Jazz, Classical, Rhythm and Blues, Pop, Rap, and Country. But, Rap music is the most popular music in today's society. In addition, being that Rap music is popular, Rap music is also the most corrupted music now a day. So, how does music influences positive and negative effects on people and society? Although, music has been around for several years, there are so many differences and similarities in music; for instance, all music can be related by old music that was made, or there is new music that is originated. The differences in music is the many genres and its effects on people and the society. The cost of albums from the 1960's to today's music are much higher. Another difference in music is back in the 1960's talent was a part of music, but in today's music all you need is auto tunes. The similarities are that all music is alike in some way. The strongest scene in he book would have to be when Walter turned down the money he would get for not moving into the neighborhood . I felt this took a lot of guts on his part. I also thought that this was a turning point in the novel. By Walter not accepting the money it showed that he not only grew through out the play, but also that he put many things into perspective. I feel the scene also shows the Younger family at its lowest point in the movie. Walter is on the complete edge and is thinking of stealing a community's money and the rest of the family, besides Momma, seemed to lose their faith and trust in him. When things seemed hopeless with the loss of the money, they only became worse as a loss in more than money occurred. A loss in their character, faith, history, and respect for each other overcame the family, particularly Walter and Beneatha. Nevertheless, Momma soon sets Beneatha straight with an emotional and positive speech about how there is "always something left to love" and sets the standard that the family should adhere to. It marks the turning point at the end of the movie There were few differences between the movie and the book Raisin in the Sun. I felt that the movie just gave you a visual to understand and relate to the characters more. The one major difference between the two was the sequence of events from the movie to the book.
