Probiotics: General presentation - The story of a friendly bacterium

1. Milliards of bacteria, fungus and viruses, hundreds of species and varieties of little bacteria live in our intestinal flora. Those little soldiers fight with their enemies (the bad
bacteria) and help their castle (the intestinal flora). There is a little universe inside our intestines, a small world full of microorganisms.
But when they fight each other, we might have many uncomfortable symptoms. So what remains to be done? Well, we must call the elites. The most powerful soldiers,
the ones that have special abilities and fight like heroes to save our intestinal flora and help their castle. They are also called as probiotics.
Probiotics are also microorganisms, but not any organisms, a particular kind. They are similar to the ones that we can usually find in our body, more exactly in our
intestines. Probiotics are not all the same. They are the elites, but some of them are stronger than others. Some of them have more special abilities and are stronger. So,
they are split into two groups: Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Each group has its species, and each species has its varieties.
One of the most famous soldiers, known for its abilities to fight bravely with enemies is Bifidobacterium Bifidus. As I said, he is very popular and known by all bacteria,
but he also has a cousin named Saccharomyces Boulardii which is not that known and is more likely to a fungus. When they are not on the fighting field, they like to
spend their free time in yogurts and some soy products. Because they are so powerful and good for human health, sometimes they go on special missions and live in
capsules waiting to be taken by people to do their best.
But who they fight against? Well, probiotics usually fight against digestive disorders such as indigestion, bloating, constipation and diarrhea. Also, one of their worst
enemies are antibiotics. People have to take them sometimes to solve some health issues. But some new problems are created, so that`s why probiotics go in special
missions. They want to solve the problems caused by antibiotics. But their worst enemy of all times is Helicobacter Pylori. Not everyone can fight it. For this, they are
sent on super­secret missions and only the most powerful probiotics can handle such a task! This virus is known to cause a lot of damage to their castle, and even
destroy it!
But probiotics fight bravely and are real heroes! If they didn’t exist our life wouldn’t be the same. Thanks to this little soldiers, we get rid of unpleasant symptoms and
have a more peaceful life while they fight.
