Assignment 4.1.1 - Sponges<br />Part 1: Decide whether the following statements are true or false.<br />Sponges are plants. False<br />The water moves through the pores bringing microscopic particles of food to the sponge. True<br />When food, such as bacteria and very small plankton, are pulled through the sponge, it's called germ filtering. False<br />Spicules are hard particles that help form the body of the sponge. True<br />Spicules can be made of a variety of materials such as calcium carbonate, silica and spongin. True<br />Sponges grow very quickly. False<br />Once a sponge larva settles on a spot on the ocean floor or coral reef, it spends the rest of its life in the same spot. True<br />Humans use sponges for food nowadays.
