2. Title fonts
• To decide what type of font to use for my 2 minute opening title
sequence I researched other sci-fi film opening sequences to see
what type they have used and how they have been used with the
opening sequence.
• Also I looked at how the opening sequence tells the audience the
genre and how the opening sequence shows the type of audience
that its aimed at.
3. Titles used in this sequence fade in and then fade out of the screen. They are
white to stand out on the screen between the dark colours. The use of scenes
of the planet and microscopic things as well as the name of the film, its
obvious that it is going to be a sci-fi film. The opening shows a distant planet
and bacteria/virus looking cells witch tells the viewer that the film would be
about aliens with a connection to a virus. Also this opening suggests that this
film is for a young adults and older people.
The Invasion (2007) – sci-fi thriller
4. This title sequence looks mechanical which would point to it being a sci-fi. The titles
are bold and the fade in and out of the screen. The colour of the titles goes well with
other colours on the screen. The titles are simple but they work well with the frames.
This opening sequence suggests that this film is aimed at older audiences as it looks
very serious and mature.
EVA (2011) – Spanish sci-fi
5. Most of the titles in this sequence have been animated into the frame but
some of them fade in and then out. The use of the green colour in the
frames points to it being a sci fi movie and the worked in titles are similar
colour to the background so that rather than standing out they appear as
part of the scene. Because of the gruesome nature of this opening sequence
it is obvious that the film is not intended for children so the audience most
likely are young adults and older people.
Splice (2009)- sci-fi thriller
6. Land of the Lost (2009) – sci-fi comedy
The opening for the Land of the Lost starts with the main title of the film
appearing on the screen first and then moving on to the rest of the titles.
Then the camera moves through a landscape the titles appear on top of
that with lines going to the sides of the shot. The use of animations for the
opening sequence shows that it’s a family film so the audience is children
and their families.
