1.
2. The Hip Hop industry display men and women in a very different
way women are often objectified and underdressed. The
model in this photograph is covering her bare body in a
crouched position showing that she is defenceless and weak
she is framed only for the male gaze and nothing else. We
hardly see women them with a inspiring quote beside there
names just a ‘playful pun’ for example – Ciara in this magazine
says ‘I'm not gonna hold back’. This is generally who women
are seen in the Hip Hop magazine genre.
In compared to Nas. He has the American flag in the background
symbolizing his national identity he is a in a boxing strong
position encoding that he is ready to take on the world. He
name is in army writing and his quote next to his name is long
a memorable.
This was very difficult for me because I had o find a balance
between the two conventions when making my own
magazine.
3. My inspiration was TLC they were the sexy and cool rap group
of there time. I thought that they were the prefect blend
between of the female and male conventions for Hip Hop
magazines, because they dressed sexy but they still had a
hard edge and feel towards them.
They always took there photographs as a three which was
prefect for my two girl group.
I made sure that all my models were
from a black ethnicity because Hip Hop
magazines mostly have that ethnicity
the most. It also shows that Hip Hop is
mostly controlled by a African
American audience.
4. On the jicnar scale it shows the different types of
people and there social statues. I my magazine
appeals mostly to C2 and below because those
are the most likely to listen and read a Hip Hop
magazine because they are mainstreamer and
aspires.
