BRIEF CAREER SUMMARY:
I started out as a programmer on Informix and progressed to an analyst programmer. As such I have
analysed, developed and implemented scripts, 4gls, web sites and VB applications. Part of these duties
included 24-hour support of the systems and liaising with and supporting end users. I progressed to Data
Warehouse Analyst and Team Lead and was involved in the analysis, design and maintenance of the data
warehouse and its integrity, which included managing the Business Intelligence components and the
reporting needs of the various clients the company supported.
As a System Analyst I played a role in the interpretation, analysis and supplementation of the business
requirements. My role extended to the development of technical specifications / functional
specifications for small, medium and large projects. Primarily my role was to gather sufficient business
and systems information to perform a detailed impact analysis, culminating in a recommended solution
and an indication of cost/man-days required to implement the solution. These solutions were portrayed
in the deliverables in the form of specifications (including diagrams/models and detailed databases and
application changes) for the system developers, testers and business analysts. The function also included
a Quality Assurance function. Core to my role was to maintain, enhance and manage the relationship
between the System analysis team and other teams within the I.T. department and business, and
updating project management with resource availability. In addition, the support and analysis of
production tasks to ensure that these tasks were completed effectively.
My main role as IT Continuity Manager is to manage the Disaster Recovery activities and initiatives for the
group, with the primary focuses on the proactive and reactive measures to recover the IT infrastructure

which is used to deliver IT Services. This includes the process of planning, establishing, testing and
implementing the strategies, processes and procedures imperative to minimise the impact of service
unavailability on customers, according to service level agreements in the event of failure or outage. My
purpose is to enhance the capability of the company and its subsidiaries to recommence IT services
subsequent to a disaster, which include IT disaster identification and notification, preparing
organisational members, IT services analysis, recovery process, backup procedures, offsite storage, and
maintenance. In summary, I ensure that the group is able to regain access to the data, hardware and
software necessary to resume critical business operations after a natural or human-induced disaster.
I also hold the Business Continuity Portfolio for the IT Service Delivery component. These duties include
the comprehensive, all-encompassing process of planning for the recovery of overall business operations
in the event of a business interruption e.g. pandemic planning, crisis management, emergency
management, building in resiliency factors such as alternative offices and remote working etc.
Integral to both roles is the Risk Management portfolio. I engage with senior management regularly to
ensure that risks are identified, reported, managed and mitigated, the overall aim being to ensure that
business is aligned with a risk culture to protect the group. Pivotal to this role is also to identify the risk
exposures at a process level for the group companies (especially emerging markets into Africa), to
perform risk assessments to determine the residual risk, and to implement the relevant controls and
programmes to mitigate
I have written and implemented an IT Continuity Governance Policy for the company, to ensure that
clients and suppliers have continuity guidelines which must be adhered to, the latter so that they are able
to provide essential products in the event of a disaster, the unavailability of which may have critical
effects on the sustainability of business. This is managed contractually by building in a DR and Risk
component and ensuring they adhere to the Continuity practices of the company. I am passionate about
Business Continuity Management (and the components of BCP, ITDRP and Risk incumbent in the
discipline), and hold a Masters’ degree on the subject.
SUMMARY OF MYSELF
I am positive and enthusiastic with a can do attitude. I am very capable with an ability to thrive under
pressure. My forte is problem solving, executed with initiative and a proactive disposition. Honesty,
integrity and respect are cornerstones of my being. I am a self-starter with the ability to work under the
pressure of deadlines.
