3. The Care Act 2014. Overview
 Modernises over 60 years of care and
support law into a single statue
 Clarifies entitlements to care and
support
 Provides for the development of a
national eligibility criteria
 Treats carers as equal to the person
they care for – with same legal
footing

4. The Care Act continued
 Reforms how care and support is funded, to create a cap
on care costs
 Rebalances the focus of care and support on promoting
wellbeing and preventing (or delaying) needs
 Provides new guarantees and reassurance to people
needing care, to support them to move between areas or
to manage if their provider fails
 New duty to assess and meet the needs of prisoners i.e.
Wandsworth Prison & Battersea Bail Hostel
