1. We recently examined The Global Village as Stakeholder. During our study of this topic we read about and discussed some of the arguments for and against globalization.
a. Summarize the arguments for and against globalization (pro-globalization, anti-globalization). Be sure to integrate course concepts, theories, readings, and discussions.
b. With which side (pro-globalization or anti-globalization) do you agree more and why? If you don’t agree with either, be sure to explain this and to explain why you don’t agree with either. As always, use course concepts and theories to support your answer.
c. Support the conclusion you reached above (part B) with a real-world example (not one we’ve already discussed or read about in the course). Specifically, integrate an outside source(s) (e.g., news story, journal article(s), documentary) that supports your opinion of contemporary globalization (e.g., overall, globalization is good; overall, the harms of globalization outweigh the benefits; or somewhere in between). Be sure to discuss your example and to explain the ways in which it supports your view of globalization using multiple course concepts and theories (e.g., ethical theories, stakeholder theory, etc.).
We have discussed the stakeholder theory during this whole semester. Most of us agree stakeholder theory is more suitable for today’s society and development. At the same time, globalization is a hot topic nowadays. There are lots of arguments about globalization both for and against. We treat global village as stakeholder; for this consideration, we should examine both side of opinions about globalization.

1. We recently examined The Global Village as Stakeholder.
During our study of this topic we read about and discussed some
of the arguments for and against globalization.
a. Summarize the arguments for and against globalization (pro-

concepts, theories, readings, and discussions.
b. With which side (pro-globalization or anti-globalization) do

either. As always, use course concepts and theories to support
your answer.
c. Support the conclusion you reached above (part B) with a
real-world example (not one we’ve already discussed or read
about in the course). Specifically, integrate an outside
source(s) (e.g., news story, journal article(s), documentary) that
supports your opinion of contemporary globalization (e.g.,
overall, globalization is good; overall, the harms of
globalization outweigh the benefits; or somewhere in between).
Be sure to discuss your example and to explain the ways in
which it supports your view of globalization using multiple
course concepts and theories (e.g., ethical theories, stakeholder
theory, etc.).
We have discussed the stakeholder theory during this whole
semester. Most of us agree stakeholder theory is more suitable
for today’s society and development. At the same time,
globalization is a hot topic nowadays. There are lots of
arguments about globalization both for and against. We treat
global village as stakeholder; for this consideration, we should
examine both side of opinions about globalization.
2. For the people who support globalization, they argue
globalization benefit both rich people and especially poor
people, help them to be lifted out of poverty and ahead into
middle class like China and India. They think foreign direct
investment give the developing countries like China an
opportunity to construct their infrastructure. (Why
Globalization is Good) Open the foreign trade provides more
job position for people and raise the economic growth. Other
people who against globalization have opposite opinions. They
said because of the economic liberalization, lots of people lost
their job. There are always cheaper labor and higher
productivity. This younger resource from outside the countries
caused the brutal competition. This phenomenon we can called
“loser of Globalization” (Meet the Loser of Globalization).
They also pointed out that globalization has increased wealthy
gap. The series of international trade war caused instability and
unfairness of the world economy between countries; the
financial crisis is a good example. Joseph Stiglitz is chief
economists who pointed out globalization caused “unbalanced
intellectual property regime”. Poor people even unable to afford
the basic medicine (Globalization Has Increased the Wealth
Gap).
Even lots of experts discussed globalization that always focus
on economic problems. I think globalization influence is much
more than economic problems, it also about culture, human
rights as well. I have to admit globalization raised some
challenges, but in overall it brings more benefits than problems.
It is necessary in future to develop globalization. Because of the
predominated position of America, some experts argued that
globalization in today’s society is more like Americanization.
Lots of people concerned that development of globalization will
eliminate the traditional culture make the whole world the same
or we could easily say Americanized. In the article “Fear Not
Globalization” Joseph said “it is true the United States does
exists at the leading position, but it likely to diminish over 21st
3. century because the technology speared and local cultural
modernized in their own ways.” I have to say it is true
American culture is everywhere: people eat fast food, American
brand could be everywhere like Nike. Corporations have still
tried to fit themselves into different culture instead of change it.
For example, McDonald’s is a typical American corporation
which speared all over the world. Why it can be this huge
success? McDonald’s respected every different culture and
changed their menu because of that. In Norway, we can have
Salmon burger, in Middle East we can have Mckebob which is a
little bit like Tacos. Globalization gave us a chance to spread
our own culture, not eliminate it. I know there is wave that
American people start to learn Chinese, Japanese or Korean.
And they start to learn how to use chopstick, accept Chinese
medicine. (All Things Asian Are Becoming Us)
Overall, I believe the benefit of globalization overweight its
harmfulness. As my own experience, in China, our parents or
grandparents have been through a really tough time: Cultural
Revolution. Up to ten years of imprisoned about thought. We
had been through the dramatically decline of our economic.
China closed its door, refused everything from the outside
world. It is totally anti-globalization. We all thanks for
Xiaoping Deng who has changed China! He made a great
decision: the reform and opening-up policy. China totally
opened its door, welcome international business, joined WTO
since 2001. This decision help Chinese people improve their
living standard, have chance to look the outside world. We are
willing to accept new culture from other countries, Starbucks
are over all the China, and at the same time we have chance to
develop our own culture in the world. Now we pursue to
democracy, promote gender equality, respect human right. If
there is no globalization development, if we did not open our
door, I can’t image how China would be today. It could be very
worse.

Be sure to support your responses with quality elements
including the integration of readings, videos, and/or real-world
examples.
During this whole semester, this class introduce us a new
theory: stakeholder theory. Our every discussion is around this
theory. It gave me a new thinking about corporation and the real
meaning of their existence. In the article “Stakeholder Theory
of the Modern Corporation”, Edward Freeman gave the
definition about stakeholder theory. It is not like shareholder
theory, corporation should not just consider the profit for its
shareholder. For me, stakeholder theory is like a big net
contained every claims group related to corporation like
5. customers, employees, stockholders and the local communities.
We can’t simply distinguish which one is more important.
From stakeholder theory, I think corporation more about its
social role. Thanks for this class, I have realized business is
much more than just making profit. I rethink my primary
purpose to choose to study business. Stakeholder theory
remains us corporation should pay attention to its social
responsibility. As we discussed before, sometimes it may has
conflict between self-interest and social responsibility.
Corporation how to make a decision between this two? That’s
why we need to build our ethics standard to restraint and
supervise corporation to make the right decision. However we
all know there is no definitely “right” thing. Ethics standard
should follow by different culture and different situation; there
is no absolutely ethics standard suit for every community
(Ethics). Based on the stakeholder theory, we want to create a
system which is benefit both corporation and its claims group
which I would especially mentioned the society and
environment. We all a coexisting with community and
environment. We can’t live without them, so does corporation.
After during all discussion in this class, I start to consider the
relationship between company and environment.
Different with traditional idea, stakeholder theory gave us a
new concept about sustainable development. Human have been
in continuing the offspring, that’s why we should adapt
sustainable development. After we overuse our resource from
environment, we begin to scare that someday there is no
resource at all. Of course, in order to attain sustainable
development, corporation may need cost more to use clean
energy. They may need to give back to community, do
contribution without making any self-interest. Every company
in the initial establishment is based on idea of long-term
development. Being the big part of society representing,
corporation should pay more attention on sustainable
6. development than individuals. Jared analysis every aspect in his
article “Why Sustainable Development is Important?” to prove
the value of sustainable. For corporation, sustainable
development can provide financial stability.
