Make a list of 5 pop culture products that embody
these elements of postmodernism. Try for at
least 3 that ARE NOT FILMS OR VIDEO.
You must be able to explain how these products
are postmodern.

11. WHAT IS A VLOG?
“a form of blog for which the
medium is video.”
This is a vlog.

12. ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Produce a 3-5 min video explaining and
examining one of the concepts from
Weeks 2 - 5 of the course. An example
of a concept is ideology or
postmodernism, but you might also
choose a smaller concept such as
orientalism, discourse, popular music, or
something else.

13. 1. Identify the concept you are using.
You might start with the sentence:
“The concept I am looking at is…”

14. 2.
Tell us what you think the concept means. To do this, ask
yourself: how do you know what it means? Where did you get
your information? You can refer to the lecture but you need to
refer to additional sources as well, such as the weekly
reading (at a minimum you have to refer to the weekly
reading but you should try to find other appropriate sources to
draw on). Make sure you explain as clearly as you can what
you think the concept means. It is alright to explain what the
concept means in your own words (and we would encourage
you to make sense of the concept in relation to what you
already know and have experienced) as long as you don’t
misrepresent the concept.

Use an example from popular culture to
illustrate what your chosen concept
means. To help you do this, ask yourself:
Why have you chosen this example?
Why is it a good example to use?
How does it help you explain your
concept?

17. Peer assessment (10%): You will also provide feedback on
another student’s video from Assessment 2 and receive
feedback in turn. You will be provided with guidelines on
how to give peer feedback in a few weeks and what our
expectations are of you in this peer feedback process.
To complete this assessment piece, you need to:
1. Submit the URL of your video from Assessment 2
2. Grade the work of the another student as assigned to
you with 10 working days of the due date (i.e. before
Midnight, Friday of Week 10).
