2. Using Formula in Excel
To compute for two or more numbers in Excel you need to
create a formula. Two important points to remember about
Excel formulas:
● formulas in Excel always begin with the equal sign ( = )
● the equal sign always goes in the cell where you want the
answer to go
3. Activity:
1. Open Microsoft Excel.
Click on Start ►All Programs ► Microsoft Office ►
Microsoft Excel or double-click on the Microsoft
Excel shortcut on the desktop. This will open a blank
workbook in Microsoft Excel.
4. 2. Input contents in sheet1.
● Go to cell A1 and type the value 143
● Go to cell B1 and type the value 5254
A B C
1 143 5254
2
5. 3.
● To add both A1 and B1, go to cell C1 and type =A1+B1
● To subtract A1 from B1, go to cell C2 and type =A1-B1
● To multiple A1 from B1, go to cell C3 and type =A1*B1
● To divide A1 from B1, go to cell C4 and type =A1/B1
6. 4. Try to change the value of A1 & B1 several times and see what
happens.
7. 5. Lets try more than 2 variables. Lets user A2 and B2.
● Go to cell A1 and type the value 143
● Go to cell B1 and type the value 5254
● Go to cell A2 and type the value 1234
● Go to cell B2 and type the value 5678
8. 6.
● To add A1,A2,B1 and B2, go to cell C1 and type
=A1+A2+B1+B2
● To subtract A1,A2,B1 and B2, go to cell C2 and type
=A1-A2-B1-B2
● To multiple A1,A2,B1 and B2, go to cell C3 and type
=A1*A2*B1*B2
● To divide A1,A2,B1 and B2, go to cell C4 and type
=A1/A2/B1/B2
