NatID project, under VERA
• PMO and MInT are among the primary
supporting institutions for NatID
•AA, Adama and a few other City

independent electronic ID within their
jurisdictions
Project Status
• Kebele ID is the most important form of
personal identification for a nation is
archaic and manual, which is issued by
local administrators in more than 16,000
kebeles across the country
• It gives legal identity and allows
individuals to conduct public or private
5. National Election Board of Ethiopia
National Elections
•Next National Election to be held within 1,5 years and up to 50million
voters expected
•As per this administration’s direction, elections are expected to use modern
technology. May include
•Electronic voter registration
•Automated vote result transmission
•Experience to be drawn from other African countries e.g. Zimbabwe,
Ghana, Senegal,…

National Census
•National census had been postponed for a long time expected
to be held within a few months
•The census is expected to cover 100% of the population in all
areas (~105million)
•Modernization Steps: Data encoders to carry tablets for
electronic data gathering (140,000+ encoders)
•Scope is demographic + spatial only (not biometric)
