Team READ is a group of four students attending the course ''Globalization and Social Entrepreneurship''. This is a powerpoint presentation covering major points of our proposal for a social action project in the field of education in rural areas of Pakistan.
2. ‘‘Establishing self-financed need driven
schools in rural settings that cater to primary
education of the children of small farmers,
provide training to the mothers on Healthcare
and self-employment and to lead a social
action campaign to change the behavior of the
villagers toward education and women’s
involvement in the public sphere’’
3. Poor families associated with agriculture in villages
are usually large. So, poor parents are not able to
spend a lot on education of a single child.
Government schools have no system of checks and
balances
Traditional curriculum has failed to respond to the
needs of local communities particularly in down-
trodden areas
Cram schools focused on spoon-fed knowledge add
no practical value in the life of students
4. Providing low-cost quality education to a child is the
best long term investment we can make to improve
living standards of an entire generation
Workable solution is to establish low-cost schools
based on model of social entrepreneurship
5. We want to take the challenge of setting our social venture
apart from all other projects in the field of education and set
a new precedence
The school tuition will be based on measurable and visible
changes in the local communities
---imparting skills responsive to local labor market in our
students so that they can earn meager amounts and become
helping hands of their parents while being at school
---training girl students in home-economics skills so as to
enable them become a contributing member of their
families.
6. Things will be hands-on and practical in our school
Testing system will be devised to monitor educational
attainment by means of standardized measurements
Exhaustive research work to determine the change in
socioeconomic conditions and to expand our projects in
other localities
7. We need assistance and funding for our school’s
initiation
Gradually, the school will be self-financed by its own
teachers and students
We will create jobs, self-employment and labor
opportunities out of our school that will help us further
in financing
Training projects for house-wives teaching them to start
small in-house ventures so as to make them
economically independent and let them use their money
for education of their daughters
8. Training students of higher grades to assist teachers in
instructing lower grade pupils
All the clerical and managerial work in the school will
be done with the assistance and collaboration of the
student community
As many on-campus jobs will be launched as possible
9. In 5 years period, we expect
the school to be self-sufficient and independent and
to have close collaborations with the local
communities.
every child in the community to attend the school at
least upto grade 5.
to have imparted professional trainings to hundreds of
boys and girls who would be now potentially earning
more.
to have led many systematic awareness campaigns in
the area.
10. Because we believe ‘‘ideas are bulletproof’’
