 The speaking of Bali Island, we’re likely to deem it as
an island of tropical paradise for resort and beautiful
sea.
 It’s an island located in a huge archipelago called
Nusantara.
 Bali is a province belong to Republic of Indonesia.

5. 2. What’s Balinese
 Balinese is a branch for Austronesian language family
e.g. Malay.
 About 3.9 million native speakers in Indonesia, 1.5%
of population.
 Mainly spoken in Bali province etc.
 Gramaticaly similar to Indonesian language.

 Grammar for Noun phrases
 Generation of vocabulary with prefixes/suffix

 Caste culture emerged in XIV century.
 Brahmana class is special in Job Selection.

 Public education in Indonesian, not Balinese.
 Balinese people tend to educate children in
Indonesian.
 Less people can understand Balinese.

“KIPUN”(uncountable migrants) and illegal immigrants

 As the result, tends not to use Balinese.
 Diversity in Balinese society let them use Indonesian
as the Lingua Franca.
 Less people can understand Balinese.

 The language is genuine indigenous mother tongue
for Balinese.
 In public education, schools teach children Balinese
as “the Local Language”
 Mass media, e.g. Bali TV, uses Balinese.
