David Elkind was a developmental psychologist born in 1931 in Detroit, Michigan. He received his Bachelor's degree from UCLA in 1952 and his Doctorate in Philosophy from the same institution in 1955. From 1964-1965, he studied under Jean Piaget in Geneva, Switzerland. Elkind's research focused on cognitive, perceptual, and social development in children and adolescents. He developed theories of egocentrism in adolescence and the importance of play for learning in younger children.
