2. Streaming is in
Movie Theaters
are out.
So much Streaming
Disney +
Paramount +
HBO Max
Amazon Prime Video
Funimation
Crunchyroll
Peacock
YouTube Premium
Apple TV+
In the wake of COVID-19, Netflix’s
growth, and Hulu’s live TV pack is
making movie theaters and TV
obsolete.
What about
Cinemas?
What about TV?
What do jobs look
Like?
What is happening
to the film industry?
3. COVID-19
With COVID-19 movie studios had to
start releasing films straight to the
consumer
Theaters had to stay closed for most
of 2020
Schools closed, jobs at home
Streaming allowed for something to
do
Hollywood studios pulled blockbusters
from the calendar, leaving the minimal
cinemas that were open with little
content
COVID-19 has started a shift
4. Theaters & Industry Jobs
THEATERS
In June 2020, mid-pandemic, only
14% of respondents preferred
theaters whereas 36% of respondents
preferred streaming
Trolls World Tour coming out digitally
only, caused strife between AMC
theaters and Universal Studios
AMC will no longer screen Universal movies
Streaming platform original movies
INDUSTRY JOBS
In 2019, Netflix released 371
movies & TV shows
“Applications from
previsualization and fully CG
animated projects to the LED-wall
in-camera visual” (Balderston,
2021) used to make The
Mandalorian at home
More jobs at streaming services
due to their originals
5. Why Streaming?
People are lazy
Why go to movies when movies will
come to you
COVID-19
COVID-19 caused lots of things to
falter
Theaters are so expensive
AMC charges $13.69 for adults and
$10.69 for children
3D & IMAX even more expensive
AMC charges $6-$7 for a small
popcorn, candy is $3-$4, and
beverages are $5-$5.30 for a small
Getting to expensive for large families,
streaming is cheaper and you get
movies for longer than the movie time
Why has streaming took off?
6. Can we help the
Theaters?
Should we stop streaming?
This or that?
7. Invest in
Streaming
Lots of experts think the theaters
will never die
Streaming can bring in lots of
revenue and are good
opportunities for people wanting
to put their stuff out there
Some experts believe theaters are
a thing of the past and streaming is
where it is
First expert stance and prediction.
8. Down with
Streaming
Lots of experts and long time film
industry personal hate streaming
They want streaming to go away
Everyone needs to go back to the
cinemas
People of the world still like the
theater experience
Lots of experts say the theater
experience is something you can’t
get with streaming
Second expert stance and
prediction.
9. Drive-ins?
Drive-ins were safe for COVID-19
Hollywood had and could show
their movies in a theater
experience with drive-ins
You could have streaming and
drive-ins
Future drive-ins could be within
walking distance with old cars for
people to sit in with a working
radio/stereo
Third experts stance and
prediction.
10. Balance
Streaming is the future
Theaters won’t and aren’t obsolete, yet
Lots of people want movie theater to
stay
We need to take the Disney and Amazon
approach
Disney released certain shows and
movies on Disney+ only
Disney released Encanto and will release
Spiderman in theaters and wait 1-2
months before putting it on Disney +
Amazon was doing this before streaming
became more mainstream
This is what the movie industry needs to
This will bring people to the movies and
to streaming
My expertise, prediction, and
possible solution.
I am in the industry and have kept
up with it, these are my thoughts.
11. Obstacles
Theaters or Streaming?
Hollywood has all the power now
Before theaters were the fate of the
movie industry, but with so much
streaming movie industries have the
power
COVID-19
COVID is still a fear, Delta is still among
us
PEOPLE ARE LAZY
People will always choose comfort
over anything
Why go to the movies when the
movies will come to you
What will happen?

13. Conclusion
Streaming is the future
Theaters could die
Jobs are becoming more available
We should invest in drive-ins
We need balance between
streaming and theaters
We need to find a way to make
people less lazy
