Humans are obsessed with categorizing. We split the people and things of the world into millions of
groups and give them names, characteristics, and stereotypes. Ethnicity, sexuality, religion, political
view, genus and species: these all reflect the human's constant need to note, name, and categorize.
Still not convinced? Look at a dictionary. The fact that it was even created proves a tendency of the
human mind to solidify things, their category, their characteristics, and their definition. Most brains
do not do well with the abstract noun. Words like love, justice, fairness, and peace bounce about and

I never imagined that people such as the Sawi actually exist. I heard stories about them but in the
book, Peace Child, written by Don Richardson, the issue has never been more personal. A
question that kept arising as I read through the books, was why is treachery so valued? The
people were obviously affected and each act of revenge or violence just stimulated more fear
among the people. Yet, it was obvious that people kept hoping to trust because there was always
hope to establish friendship and peace, even though most times it was regretted later on. New
insights I gained about God while reading Peace Child was how God is so powerful, He is able

They were asked whether most of them have given up their own prized son for peace and those
that have knew the sadness that entailed. Then they were asked if they would've given up that
same son if they knew the receivers would slaughter him. The Sawi said they absolutely wouldn't.
The illustration was that God had done exactly that; given up His cherished one and only son to
traitors because of how much love and peace He wanted for all of mankind. This really interested
the Sawi. Towards the end, the Sawi used the illustration, "Peace Child" to remind themselves that if
the devil tempts them, they are to say, "God has placed the Spirit of His Peace Child, Jesus, within
me. If that Peace Child had died or gone away and left me, I might be free to do the evil you saddest.
But He is not dead! Nor has He derserted me! He still lives within me to keep me in the way of

" Think global, act local" is an appealing slogan, but the advice falls short. We live in a world
where our best friends live on different continents and we converse more with our neighbor in
Nigeria than our neighbor next door. No longer is it logical to say, "Charity begins at home."

Reuben to come back to life, he says that in the name of God he must resuscitate. Reuben was not
destined to live, and because his father's choice went against what was supposed to happen, Reuben
must live an asthmatic life that limits what he is able to do. Ultimately, Enger portrays how all
decisions have consequences, and many times the results will not be the expected ones.
The conflict presented between Davy and the law depicts that people must take responsibility for
the consequences of their actions. Davy is Reuben's independent older brother. While only
seventeen years old, he always gives the appearance of an adult fully capable of caring for
himself. He has a mind of his own and does not want anybody telling him what to do. Davy's
independence seems to follow his dad's advice, which is shown at the end of the first chapter when
Jeremiah tells his children, "We and the world, my children will always be at war. Retreat is

Peace is very complex. It could happen when your young, or when your older and more experienced.
Peace can come from bright times or dark time, such as death. In the novel A Separate Peace by
John Knowles Gene finds peace in a very odd way. He has a quite "separate peace" from everyone
