Example Of Academic Autobiography
Assignment 1 – Academic Autobiography Growing up on a small farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma, my
family knew more about growing crops and raising cows than focusing on academics. There were
no issues with learning the farm life, but academically my family was not the brightest group of
individuals when it came to academics. Early on in life I understood I did not want to grow up a
farmer like the rest of my family. I enjoy being on the farm, but my choice to move outside of the
box was different than any of my other family members. I am your basic outcast of the family who
chose a different route in life.
As a young child, my mother bounced from marriage to marriage until I was nine years old. My
father chose not to be part of my life, so, growing up was tough without a father figure in my life
was tough. I attended several different schools, and as a young child attending Oklahoma City
schools wearing cowboy boots and hat I didn't not always fit in. In1987, my mother chose to move
closer to our immediate family in Tuttle, Oklahoma. I started attending Amber–Pocasset school
district, small school district south of Tuttle Oklahoma, and finished my general education (4th –
12th). There is a large difference when comparing Oklahoma City school district to Amber–Pocasset
schools which is two towns combined into one. The elementary school was in the town of Pocasset
(K – 6th) and the high school (7th – 12th) was in Amber. Moving to a smaller school district equals

Personal Narrative: A Personal Autobiography
Ok, how does one starts a personal autobiography? I'm not quite sure what to say about me. I'm
Nissa, it's pronounce like Nissan excluding the "n" at the end. Most of my peers know me by
Merline which is my birth name, however, I changed my name to Nissa because people couldn't
pronounce Merline right; it's a French name and it requires certain emphasis when pronouncing it
especially on the "r". Anyway, enough about my name. As you can already tell, I have an accent,
a Caribbean one to be precise. I'm originally from Haiti, I moved here in 2011. I had to learn
English from the beginning and I'm still learning now, of course. When I moved here I was
expecting things to be like the movies I've seen many times while I was a child. Well, it's somewhat

Autobiographical Conflict Narrative
Just as numbers are infinite, so are conflicts. Whether good or bad they just keep coming day in
and day out, all day long. Recently, I found myself engaged in a conflict I never saw coming.
Most conflict comes without waning and you have no time to prepare with how to deal with it.
Alvin (the man I live with) and I were looking at a program on TV when the actors began to sing a
song (Gospel) whose words were familiar. I begin to sing the song and Alvin's facial expression
exhibited one of "please be quiet, you cannot sing". Noticing his reaction to my singing, I
responded with "I am not singing for you anyway, I am singing for Him (God), so it does not need to
sound good to you. My singing sounds good to Him (God)". He instantly provided me with
another facial expression and made a comment. When I questioned him, he said I had offended
him and to just leave it alone. Amazed at his response, as I was the one who should have been
offended I asked what I did. As always, he wanted to abruptly end the conversation and not address
the conflict at hand. He became nonverbal with an attitude. I know there is a problem because he no
longer wants to have any type of conversation and or interaction. This is typical behavior if it is
something that he does not want to confront. Initially, at one time we were interdepended connection
as intimate lovers with hopes and dreams of marriage. However, we now seem to live as roommates.

Growing up in the early 2000's, my family lived in a nice neighborhood with a decent home,
complete with a dog and a picket fence. We were a typical, middle class, suburban family. I enjoy
reminiscing about these times, indulging in the endearing memories associated with them. Days
were spent playing with the neighborhood children, going to preschool, and watching PBS cartoons.
Above all these, some of my fondest memories are those of my mother reading to me before bed. At
three and four years old I would listen to my mother read to me, feeling warm and clean from my
bath, wrapped up in my cozy Spiderman pajamas. I remember laying my head on my mother's
stomach and the feeling her voice made as she read aloud. I loved the stories she would read.
Introducing me to Dr. Seuss and Curious George at this age instilled a love for fictional worlds
where strange and silly things happened. During elementary school, much of my leisure time was
filled with reading books. I continued reading through early high school, falling in love with
biographies and historical nonfiction as I matured. Meanwhile, as I graduated elementary school, I
began my complicated journey of learning to write. Writing was not as easy for me to enjoy, but
eventually, I did find some joy in it. There were many things which happened between the age of 4
and 19 that made me the literate person I am today. The first time I remember learning to read was
when my grandmother was reading "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What

Racial Autobiography: Reflective Essay I was always really proud to be from Compton, CA. The
rich racial and cultural history of the Hub City has had a major impact on many aspects of my life
and is part of my identity. My mother is a Mexican–American, she was born in Tijuana and her
family moved to Compton in 1962 when she was five. My dad was born in Colorado and his family
settled in Compton in 1961 when he was four. My parents were in the same kindergarten class at

I always identified myself as Mexican because technically I was mostly Mexican, but I didn't
speak Spanish and was never really accepted by my Spanish speaking peers. I also remember not
wanting to be identified as White, I was an American but I didn't want to be called White. I
idolized Martin Luther King Jr. as a young child, and I remember feeling deeply moved and
fundamentally changed after seeing the first images of the civil rights movement during Black
history month. Then I remember starting to wonder why I always saw the same videos and learned
the same lessons each year during February and I began to question things. I remember getting so
angry at my own ignorance of the history of racism in this country during my first multi–cultural
history class at Cal State Long Beach. I realized how much I wasn't learning in school and that I
never got an authentic version of history from any group other than the dominant White culture. It
was an eye opening experience and it had a profound impact on me. I learned to embrace being an
American as long as I was willing to commit to continuously questioning and challenging the current
power structures in place and work to expose the institutionalized racism that continues to plague our

The Reflection Of The Autobiography Of My Life
Henry Ford once said," Before everything else, getting ready is the secret of success." I believe
everything that happens in life happens at the time we take our first breath in the world. We typically
get our greatest memories and our greatest successes at our life's milestones. Some of these
milestones include, graduating high school, attending college, getting engaged, and getting
married. These milestones are what shape us into the person we are today. May I present you the
graduating Class of 2013...the moment our lives change, the moment we turn the page to write
about the next chapters in the autobiography of our life. High School is where our lives start to
shift us and molds us into the person we are today. Growing up I never really remember staying at
one school an entire year. My parents got divorced when I was only five years old. When I was
nine my mother remarried, her husband at the time had a job that kept us on the move year after
year never really getting us to know anyone in the town we moved to. It wasn't until my junior
year in high school when my mother and her husband got a divorce and my mom moved back to her
home town. Knowing now I would be able to start to make friends and able to focus on a social life
as well as an academic lifestyle. I was wrong being I was transferring from school to school I was
behind in some of my classes and I wasn't learning as fast and effective as the other students. My
mother and I was concerned being it was my

Autobiographical Narrative
It was the beginning of an endless summer, I did what I do every typical morning, brushed my
teeth, washed my face, and turned on my computer. I reached for some snacks as I hopped on
Discord, a free app for voice and text chat. All of my friends were on: Austin, Edison, Edmund.
Including my brother, Kevin. They were chatting about how they missed each other and reminisced
about the good old days. At that moment, I knew it wouldn't be a fun summer without my friends
with me, so I decided to plan for a hangout.
"The Park!" I suggested. "We should go to the park for a meetup," I added. Without a second
thought, they agreed. The park it was. We were heading to the Kelloch and Velasco Park near our

An eight year old little girl from their group, walked up and pointed at us, she talked in a hostile
manner; cursing, using derogatory words, and being downright rude. I understood that she was
young, which explains why she was acting so immature, but she wasn't embarrassed, nor ashamed, to
talk to us like that.
"Shut the f*ck up and mind your own f*cking business, idiots!" The little girl screeched.
To hear that from a minor eight year old girl was extremely shocking and even more so irritating. As
she continued to ramble nonsense, her older sister siding with her, the others stood back and silently
watched. Then, she began to recite racist jokes about our race.
"What, you don't understand what I'm saying, you should've learned some English before coming
to America, or are Asians all deaf? She laughed. "N*gga, they are probably all deaf."
"Can you be more mature!" "Where did you learn that from?" "You would be an awful person
growing up." We fired back trying to not offend her the way she did to us. It was a two on two, but
no matter how hard we argued, they would just run their mouths like a jackhammer jammed on.
They continued to go off topic insulting us instead of answering our question. It was at this moment,
my friend Austin came in to attempt to salvage the situation. Austin is a year older than me, he is in
high school, but looks like an adult. There was a chance of winning. "Calm down, don't cause any

My Educational Autobiography Essay
My educational autobiography consists of my time from my early days in elementary school
until the day I graduated from the University of Southern California. I had many great experiences
as well as some dreadful ones. The experiences from my educational career will mold the teacher I
will become in the future. My elementary schools years were spent at Kenter Canyon
Elementary. I remember my very first teacher in Kindergarten, Mrs. G, she was very kind to all
her students. Her compassion towards students who were scared to be away from their parents
for the first time was extraordinary. Another memory I have at Kenter was when, Ms.
Montgomery, who was in charge of the cafeteria would come to our fifth grade class to discuss
her life experiences during the civil rights movement. Mr. Osay, my teacher would let her speak
to us directly and I thought it was incredible that she was a few inches away from Dr. King when
they marched on Washington. Mr. Osay was a great teacher, but I also recall a moment when one
of the female students wrote me a note. Mr. Osay, took the note from my hand, gathered the class
together, and read it aloud. I was humiliated and I did not want to go back to school. This is an
experience I will remember when I am a teacher, to ensure my students feel safe and welcomed at
all times in my class. My middle school years were spent at Paul Revere Middle School. My sixth
grade English teacher, Ms. Schwartz, was the first teacher

An Autobiography Of My Cultural Identity
I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. My family was catholic and so I was taught to
pray and by the age of 13 I had all my sacraments. For most of my life I lived the downtown area of
the main city where my mother and her family had also grown up. I considered myself very lucky
because even though our economic security was not the best as I grew up, my mother always
strived for me to receive the best education she could afford. As a result, I learned to speak
English from a very young age and then French, I learned to play the guitar and also to paint. I also
took embroidery and etiquette classes and so on. Because of the location where we lived, I also took
advantage of many cultural interactions with people from other...show more content...
Then, I was born in 1989, her only child. Arguably, this story was an eye opener for me from an
early age. I wondered, why wasn't my uncle forced to stop his life and take care of his parents as
well, after all they were both their children. Instead, my mother the female was the one who quit
everything and took care of her parents. As a result I grew up thinking that gender roles were meant
to favor men only, while women had to sacrifice their lives for others.
Arguably, my mother is my role mother. As a single mother, she struggled to provide for me in
unimaginable ways. Being a woman and a single mother in the Dominican Republic played an
important factor on her decay in class and economic status. As a result, it created a sense of
awareness for me, to understand that as women we have to work twice as hard than men to
accomplish half of what they have. This statement was true not only in the Dominican Republic
in the 90's but also today in America. Looking back at my mother's struggles I cannot say that I
have overcome half as much as she did. However, I can see how being a woman has been a
disadvantage and an advantage at times. A disadvantage because as women in my society, we tend
to be victims of sexism and harassment. Yet, it may also be an advantage because the same society
that subject's women, at times favors these in the labor market. For instance, when my mother
passed away I was 16 years

Personal Narrative: My Autobiographical Essay
My autobiographical essay resembled the training needed before an enduring run. Just like a
runner's endurance needs improvement after a prolonged time of not running, my writing needed
some work after not having written for a long period of time. This essay gave the impression of
being straightforward and unchallenging, but by the time I finally finished my intro, my first
impression was altered. When I was asked to write about something I am passionate about, I just
started writing without a plan in mind. That was a major mistake. Not having my ideas organized or
developed in an outline made writing the paper take more time and effort than it could have taken if
I did make an outline. After peer response, I had to make some changes in

Self Autobiography Essay
Looking back on my past work, a few subjects are very prominent to me now such as: the
self–portrait, the autobiographical in art, performance and the body. My work is autobiographical in
the sense that it's been inspired by my experiences and influenced by my environment and social
surroundings. The self–portrait is a re–occurring theme and there are works that I've made where I
was literally in the work, acting as the performer or artist. These are themes I spent a great deal of
time researching for my thesis artwork titled: Open Studio: A Phase in Six Years of my Art
Education, which was exhibited at the culmination of my MFA program in 2014. For my thesis, I
started by researching theories about the mirror and the window in art history; and their relationship
to the idea of self–reflection. These modern concepts of individuality and the self–conscious nature
of my artistic interests led me to consider the self–portrait as a theme. But I also spent a great deal of
time considering autobiography as more than a self–portrait. It presents an individual identity in a
narrative or time period of their life. In a time where the borders between public and private,
fictitious and real are so blurred, I was intrigued with how the presentation of one's own life in art
can raise questions. Part of the challenge for me was how to present this as honestly or sincerely as
possible. What is autobiographical in art can be more than a narcissistic reflection of self, it can
also be a

An Autobiographical Essay On Husson University
One sunny day many years ago in the parking lot of Husson University a car comes to a sudden
stop. The door swings opens and out steps a young woman named, Heather Patten. It's the first
day of college and she can feel the butterflies franticly swarming around in her stomach. "Husson
University is a big place especially if you don't know anyone there and have no clue where your
classes are." Eventually, like any place, Heather got used to the many buildings and huge campus.
She was at a great place in her life, finally she was own her own. She graduated high school 10th out
of her class, and got her wish to go to a college close to home.
"I didn't want to go away for college." Heather stated. At the time she lived in Glenburn, Maine so
her options were limited. The only two colleges that caught her eye were Husson, because it had a
physical therapy program, and the University of Maine because it was a little less expensive and
she could study there to become a teacher. "I applied for both and got accepted into both of them
so I decided that I would try physical therapy because it was harder but if I didn't like it I would
switch and become a teacher." Another reason Heather leaned towards going to Husson and
becoming a physical therapist is because when she was in high school her guidance counselor told
her that she was not smart enough to go into physical therapy school. Her guidance counselor also
told her even if she did she wouldn't make it into the school she wouldn't

Running Head: MY CULTURAL
My Cultural Autobiography
Nancy Domanski
Sir Frances Bacon said, "If a man be gracious to strangers, it shows that he is a citizen of the
world, and his heart is no island cut off from other islands, but a continent that joins them,"
(Jenkins, 1994). This quote represents all the core values that I cherish and to which I adhere.
Personal culture doesn't have to be linked to a certain country of origin or a specific ethnicity; it can
be as simple as a person's core values. The Southern way of life is a culture all in itself. Growing up
south of the Mason–Dixon Line in the United States has instilled in me many values including
honesty, integrity and a genuine concern for my fellow man. Most...show more content...
I think it is because of how different the food is and how many choices are available. I am proud that
I have continued this tradition with my children for many reasons, but manly because it opens their
minds to new people and cultures. I think this tradition that my mother started was pretty
progressive for her time. She never seemed to be restrained by the typical female roles of most
women of her time. She somehow managed to remain true to her southern traditions while
blending them into a progressive way of thinking. I think I am the same, in that I am trying to
teach my daughter respect for others, especially her elders, while making sure her own thoughts
are valued as well. My brother, Mike, recently reminded me of another very strong southern value
that I too feel passionate about when he said, "Don't ask me for a handout, but I am always willing
to give you a hand up." By this is meant, southerners are always willing to help someone better
themselves or their situation. If they are hungry, feed them and show them how to feed themselves.
If they need a job, teach them the skills needed to find a job–not give them money. To us, throwing
money at a situation is not helping. It is demeaning to the receiver and it will most likely
encourage the problem. More simply put, if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. If you teach
a man to fish, he will feed himself forever.

The autobiographical narrative, A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer recounts the harrowing abuse he
endured at the hands of a figure that should represent security and comfort–his mother. Between the
ages of 4–12 Pelzer suffered mental, physical and emotional torment from his alcoholic mother,
ostracizing him from his family. A dwelling that should symbolize a sanctuary for an innocent child
instead became an abusive containment facility. In documenting the raw images of his scarred past,
Pelzer was able to fabricate a face to an otherwise silent evil. He also represented those who
experienced similar situations of anguish and despair. His ordeal embodied the ability of the human
spirit to endure to its breaking point, but still...show more content...
This is the foundation for his argument and the pivotal component in establishing his credibility.
In his early years of captivity, Pelzer had the imagination, dreams, and hopes of an innocent child.
This paved the way for his eventual release and future success's he was able to accomplish.
Throughout the narrative, food was represented as a metaphor for power. The internal and
external conflict surrounding Pelzer and his mother was primarily around food and Pelzer's
ability to acquire some or not. In chapter 4, "The Fight for Food", Pelzer describes his struggle to
obtain and retain food. Mother established her sense of daunting authority and supremacy by
controlling every morsel of food Pelzer had, many times refusing to feed him in order to justify
the cruelty she condoned upon him. "On weekends, to punish me for my thefts, Mother refused
to feed me" (p.49). Ironically Pelzer was able to weaken Mother's seemingly stable sense of
command through the same outlet. Whenever he was able to outsmart mother, Pelzer implied
that he felt a sense of clout and control over his situation. "As I held a piece of frozen pumpkin pie
crust or a bit of a taco shell, I was the king, and like a king on his throne, I gazed down on my food
and smiled" (p. 79). Pelzer's few victories in "The Fight for Food" foreshadowed his eventual escape
from the tightening grasp of his mother, lending credence to his argument of hope during times of

Autobiographical Narratives: No Cats In America
1–My experience reading the autobiographical narratives could not be any more different. First of
all, while reading "No Cats in America" I felt that a plethora of people, including me, would find
the plot and overall narrative very relatable and interesting. The whole story shows the cold and
candid reality every immigrant faces once they reach a new destination. The author gave us a truly
deep insight of how he really felt during those difficult times at school and how he was not adjusting
very well to the environment around him. He was suffering so much that he went as far as rejecting
his own ethnicity and culture. Even if the reader cannot relate to the story, the writer was able to

An incident that occurred in my life was accepting Jesus into it. This to me was a great
achievement, because it made me a better person. Growing up I always went to church on

I already got money on my head, and came close to my afterlife. Right when I thought things
couldn't get worse I had to take in my niece, because her daddy couldn't take care of her. Me and

become lower, Romans 8:28 reminds us that "all things work together for good." That's an easy
verse to believe when the sun is shining, but it's something else entirely in the darkness of tragedy.
I was living with my friend's time to time, but I didn't want to be a burden so I just did me. At my
lowest I asked God for his mercy and grace. It wouldn't hurt asking for some help from him, so I
did. I started going to church, trying to get right with myself. Gaining knowledge in the Lord, and
understanding the word. I reaccepted Christ into my life and started thinking positive about the
bad that has happened. Suffering applies a force that either pushes us away from God or pulls us
toward him. If we base our faith on the lack of sickness, your faith lives on the edge of extinction
and will fall apart easily. It took me at my worst, but God knew that was the best time to show his

It all started when I came back from football practice and was watching T.V. I was 10 at the time,

In second grade, I finally figured out that something was wrong with me. There always had been,
and it was only getting worse. For as long as I had been alive, I was never like other kids. As a baby,
I never crawled more than a few inches. But one day, just for fun, my dad stood me up across the
room from my mom. "Walk to Mama," he told me. Despite all expectations, I did. I got up and
walked to Mama. I didn 't even stumble. It wasn 't that I couldn 't walk, I just hadn 't needed to.

positive. I was gifted. Very. The school resumed its rhetoric with even more force. They didn 't
want me to leave. I was dragging up their test scores. My parents, however, did want me to leave,
as did I. We started looking at schools. Two favorites emerged: Nova Classical Academy and
Minnetonka Public Schools's Navigator program. Nova was a public charter school in Saint
Paul, much closer to my house in Minneapolis, and was recommended by my IQ test proctor. The
Navigator program was, unsurprisingly, in Minnetonka, and my parents had found it on their
own. Due to my father's anxieties about me going to a charter, they decided to look more closely
at Minnetonka. A little while later, I was pulled from my school to go to a Navigator orientation.
As soon as I walked in to the classroom, I felt every pair of eyes on me. I was in the worst situation
imaginable–I was the newcomer. I didn 't know anything about this strange new place, half an hour
away from my school, my house, and anything and anyone I knew. Worse, in less than a year, these
kids could be my classmates. I took a spot at the very back table. There was only one other student
there–a blonde girl who quickly introduced herself

Autobiographical Narrative Essay Topics

  • 1. Example Of Academic Autobiography Assignment 1 – Academic Autobiography Growing up on a small farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma, my family knew more about growing crops and raising cows than focusing on academics. There were no issues with learning the farm life, but academically my family was not the brightest group of individuals when it came to academics. Early on in life I understood I did not want to grow up a farmer like the rest of my family. I enjoy being on the farm, but my choice to move outside of the box was different than any of my other family members. I am your basic outcast of the family who chose a different route in life. As a young child, my mother bounced from marriage to marriage until I was nine years old. My father chose not to be part of my life, so, growing up was tough without a father figure in my life was tough. I attended several different schools, and as a young child attending Oklahoma City schools wearing cowboy boots and hat I didn't not always fit in. In1987, my mother chose to move closer to our immediate family in Tuttle, Oklahoma. I started attending Amber–Pocasset school district, small school district south of Tuttle Oklahoma, and finished my general education (4th – 12th). There is a large difference when comparing Oklahoma City school district to Amber–Pocasset schools which is two towns combined into one. The elementary school was in the town of Pocasset (K – 6th) and the high school (7th – 12th) was in Amber. Moving to a smaller school district equals small class Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Personal Narrative: A Personal Autobiography Ok, how does one starts a personal autobiography? I'm not quite sure what to say about me. I'm Nissa, it's pronounce like Nissan excluding the "n" at the end. Most of my peers know me by Merline which is my birth name, however, I changed my name to Nissa because people couldn't pronounce Merline right; it's a French name and it requires certain emphasis when pronouncing it especially on the "r". Anyway, enough about my name. As you can already tell, I have an accent, a Caribbean one to be precise. I'm originally from Haiti, I moved here in 2011. I had to learn English from the beginning and I'm still learning now, of course. When I moved here I was expecting things to be like the movies I've seen many times while I was a child. Well, it's somewhat Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Narrative Essay Autobiographical Conflict Narrative Just as numbers are infinite, so are conflicts. Whether good or bad they just keep coming day in and day out, all day long. Recently, I found myself engaged in a conflict I never saw coming. Most conflict comes without waning and you have no time to prepare with how to deal with it. Alvin (the man I live with) and I were looking at a program on TV when the actors began to sing a song (Gospel) whose words were familiar. I begin to sing the song and Alvin's facial expression exhibited one of "please be quiet, you cannot sing". Noticing his reaction to my singing, I responded with "I am not singing for you anyway, I am singing for Him (God), so it does not need to sound good to you. My singing sounds good to Him (God)". He instantly provided me with another facial expression and made a comment. When I questioned him, he said I had offended him and to just leave it alone. Amazed at his response, as I was the one who should have been offended I asked what I did. As always, he wanted to abruptly end the conversation and not address the conflict at hand. He became nonverbal with an attitude. I know there is a problem because he no longer wants to have any type of conversation and or interaction. This is typical behavior if it is something that he does not want to confront. Initially, at one time we were interdepended connection as intimate lovers with hopes and dreams of marriage. However, we now seem to live as roommates. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Growing up in the early 2000's, my family lived in a nice neighborhood with a decent home, complete with a dog and a picket fence. We were a typical, middle class, suburban family. I enjoy reminiscing about these times, indulging in the endearing memories associated with them. Days were spent playing with the neighborhood children, going to preschool, and watching PBS cartoons. Above all these, some of my fondest memories are those of my mother reading to me before bed. At three and four years old I would listen to my mother read to me, feeling warm and clean from my bath, wrapped up in my cozy Spiderman pajamas. I remember laying my head on my mother's stomach and the feeling her voice made as she read aloud. I loved the stories she would read. Introducing me to Dr. Seuss and Curious George at this age instilled a love for fictional worlds where strange and silly things happened. During elementary school, much of my leisure time was filled with reading books. I continued reading through early high school, falling in love with biographies and historical nonfiction as I matured. Meanwhile, as I graduated elementary school, I began my complicated journey of learning to write. Writing was not as easy for me to enjoy, but eventually, I did find some joy in it. There were many things which happened between the age of 4 and 19 that made me the literate person I am today. The first time I remember learning to read was when my grandmother was reading "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Examples Of Racial Autobiography Naomi Lara GED 503 – Summer 2015 Racial Autobiography: Reflective Essay I was always really proud to be from Compton, CA. The rich racial and cultural history of the Hub City has had a major impact on many aspects of my life and is part of my identity. My mother is a Mexican–American, she was born in Tijuana and her family moved to Compton in 1962 when she was five. My dad was born in Colorado and his family settled in Compton in 1961 when he was four. My parents were in the same kindergarten class at Jefferson Elementary school and although they didn't start dating until they were in their 20's, they definitely helped each other survive the racial injustices and violence that permeated all facets of their educational experience in Compton...show more content... I always identified myself as Mexican because technically I was mostly Mexican, but I didn't speak Spanish and was never really accepted by my Spanish speaking peers. I also remember not wanting to be identified as White, I was an American but I didn't want to be called White. I idolized Martin Luther King Jr. as a young child, and I remember feeling deeply moved and fundamentally changed after seeing the first images of the civil rights movement during Black history month. Then I remember starting to wonder why I always saw the same videos and learned the same lessons each year during February and I began to question things. I remember getting so angry at my own ignorance of the history of racism in this country during my first multi–cultural history class at Cal State Long Beach. I realized how much I wasn't learning in school and that I never got an authentic version of history from any group other than the dominant White culture. It was an eye opening experience and it had a profound impact on me. I learned to embrace being an American as long as I was willing to commit to continuously questioning and challenging the current power structures in place and work to expose the institutionalized racism that continues to plague our public Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. The Reflection Of The Autobiography Of My Life Henry Ford once said," Before everything else, getting ready is the secret of success." I believe everything that happens in life happens at the time we take our first breath in the world. We typically get our greatest memories and our greatest successes at our life's milestones. Some of these milestones include, graduating high school, attending college, getting engaged, and getting married. These milestones are what shape us into the person we are today. May I present you the graduating Class of 2013...the moment our lives change, the moment we turn the page to write about the next chapters in the autobiography of our life. High School is where our lives start to shift us and molds us into the person we are today. Growing up I never really remember staying at one school an entire year. My parents got divorced when I was only five years old. When I was nine my mother remarried, her husband at the time had a job that kept us on the move year after year never really getting us to know anyone in the town we moved to. It wasn't until my junior year in high school when my mother and her husband got a divorce and my mom moved back to her home town. Knowing now I would be able to start to make friends and able to focus on a social life as well as an academic lifestyle. I was wrong being I was transferring from school to school I was behind in some of my classes and I wasn't learning as fast and effective as the other students. My mother and I was concerned being it was my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Narrative Essay Autobiographical Narrative It was the beginning of an endless summer, I did what I do every typical morning, brushed my teeth, washed my face, and turned on my computer. I reached for some snacks as I hopped on Discord, a free app for voice and text chat. All of my friends were on: Austin, Edison, Edmund. Including my brother, Kevin. They were chatting about how they missed each other and reminisced about the good old days. At that moment, I knew it wouldn't be a fun summer without my friends with me, so I decided to plan for a hangout. "The Park!" I suggested. "We should go to the park for a meetup," I added. Without a second thought, they agreed. The park it was. We were heading to the Kelloch and Velasco Park near our ...show more content... An eight year old little girl from their group, walked up and pointed at us, she talked in a hostile manner; cursing, using derogatory words, and being downright rude. I understood that she was young, which explains why she was acting so immature, but she wasn't embarrassed, nor ashamed, to talk to us like that. "Shut the f*ck up and mind your own f*cking business, idiots!" The little girl screeched. To hear that from a minor eight year old girl was extremely shocking and even more so irritating. As she continued to ramble nonsense, her older sister siding with her, the others stood back and silently watched. Then, she began to recite racist jokes about our race. "What, you don't understand what I'm saying, you should've learned some English before coming to America, or are Asians all deaf? She laughed. "N*gga, they are probably all deaf." "Can you be more mature!" "Where did you learn that from?" "You would be an awful person growing up." We fired back trying to not offend her the way she did to us. It was a two on two, but no matter how hard we argued, they would just run their mouths like a jackhammer jammed on. They continued to go off topic insulting us instead of answering our question. It was at this moment, my friend Austin came in to attempt to salvage the situation. Austin is a year older than me, he is in high school, but looks like an adult. There was a chance of winning. "Calm down, don't cause any trouble kids." Austin Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Educational Autobiography Essay My educational autobiography consists of my time from my early days in elementary school until the day I graduated from the University of Southern California. I had many great experiences as well as some dreadful ones. The experiences from my educational career will mold the teacher I will become in the future. My elementary schools years were spent at Kenter Canyon Elementary. I remember my very first teacher in Kindergarten, Mrs. G, she was very kind to all her students. Her compassion towards students who were scared to be away from their parents for the first time was extraordinary. Another memory I have at Kenter was when, Ms. Montgomery, who was in charge of the cafeteria would come to our fifth grade class to discuss her life experiences during the civil rights movement. Mr. Osay, my teacher would let her speak to us directly and I thought it was incredible that she was a few inches away from Dr. King when they marched on Washington. Mr. Osay was a great teacher, but I also recall a moment when one of the female students wrote me a note. Mr. Osay, took the note from my hand, gathered the class together, and read it aloud. I was humiliated and I did not want to go back to school. This is an experience I will remember when I am a teacher, to ensure my students feel safe and welcomed at all times in my class. My middle school years were spent at Paul Revere Middle School. My sixth grade English teacher, Ms. Schwartz, was the first teacher Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. An Autobiography Of My Cultural Identity I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. My family was catholic and so I was taught to pray and by the age of 13 I had all my sacraments. For most of my life I lived the downtown area of the main city where my mother and her family had also grown up. I considered myself very lucky because even though our economic security was not the best as I grew up, my mother always strived for me to receive the best education she could afford. As a result, I learned to speak English from a very young age and then French, I learned to play the guitar and also to paint. I also took embroidery and etiquette classes and so on. Because of the location where we lived, I also took advantage of many cultural interactions with people from other...show more content... Then, I was born in 1989, her only child. Arguably, this story was an eye opener for me from an early age. I wondered, why wasn't my uncle forced to stop his life and take care of his parents as well, after all they were both their children. Instead, my mother the female was the one who quit everything and took care of her parents. As a result I grew up thinking that gender roles were meant to favor men only, while women had to sacrifice their lives for others. Arguably, my mother is my role mother. As a single mother, she struggled to provide for me in unimaginable ways. Being a woman and a single mother in the Dominican Republic played an important factor on her decay in class and economic status. As a result, it created a sense of awareness for me, to understand that as women we have to work twice as hard than men to accomplish half of what they have. This statement was true not only in the Dominican Republic in the 90's but also today in America. Looking back at my mother's struggles I cannot say that I have overcome half as much as she did. However, I can see how being a woman has been a disadvantage and an advantage at times. A disadvantage because as women in my society, we tend to be victims of sexism and harassment. Yet, it may also be an advantage because the same society that subject's women, at times favors these in the labor market. For instance, when my mother passed away I was 16 years Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Narrative: My Autobiographical Essay My autobiographical essay resembled the training needed before an enduring run. Just like a runner's endurance needs improvement after a prolonged time of not running, my writing needed some work after not having written for a long period of time. This essay gave the impression of being straightforward and unchallenging, but by the time I finally finished my intro, my first impression was altered. When I was asked to write about something I am passionate about, I just started writing without a plan in mind. That was a major mistake. Not having my ideas organized or developed in an outline made writing the paper take more time and effort than it could have taken if I did make an outline. After peer response, I had to make some changes in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Self Autobiography Essay Looking back on my past work, a few subjects are very prominent to me now such as: the self–portrait, the autobiographical in art, performance and the body. My work is autobiographical in the sense that it's been inspired by my experiences and influenced by my environment and social surroundings. The self–portrait is a re–occurring theme and there are works that I've made where I was literally in the work, acting as the performer or artist. These are themes I spent a great deal of time researching for my thesis artwork titled: Open Studio: A Phase in Six Years of my Art Education, which was exhibited at the culmination of my MFA program in 2014. For my thesis, I started by researching theories about the mirror and the window in art history; and their relationship to the idea of self–reflection. These modern concepts of individuality and the self–conscious nature of my artistic interests led me to consider the self–portrait as a theme. But I also spent a great deal of time considering autobiography as more than a self–portrait. It presents an individual identity in a narrative or time period of their life. In a time where the borders between public and private, fictitious and real are so blurred, I was intrigued with how the presentation of one's own life in art can raise questions. Part of the challenge for me was how to present this as honestly or sincerely as possible. What is autobiographical in art can be more than a narcissistic reflection of self, it can also be a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. An Autobiographical Essay On Husson University One sunny day many years ago in the parking lot of Husson University a car comes to a sudden stop. The door swings opens and out steps a young woman named, Heather Patten. It's the first day of college and she can feel the butterflies franticly swarming around in her stomach. "Husson University is a big place especially if you don't know anyone there and have no clue where your classes are." Eventually, like any place, Heather got used to the many buildings and huge campus. She was at a great place in her life, finally she was own her own. She graduated high school 10th out of her class, and got her wish to go to a college close to home. "I didn't want to go away for college." Heather stated. At the time she lived in Glenburn, Maine so her options were limited. The only two colleges that caught her eye were Husson, because it had a physical therapy program, and the University of Maine because it was a little less expensive and she could study there to become a teacher. "I applied for both and got accepted into both of them so I decided that I would try physical therapy because it was harder but if I didn't like it I would switch and become a teacher." Another reason Heather leaned towards going to Husson and becoming a physical therapist is because when she was in high school her guidance counselor told her that she was not smart enough to go into physical therapy school. Her guidance counselor also told her even if she did she wouldn't make it into the school she wouldn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay about Cultural Autobiography Running Head: MY CULTURAL My Cultural Autobiography Nancy Domanski Sir Frances Bacon said, "If a man be gracious to strangers, it shows that he is a citizen of the world, and his heart is no island cut off from other islands, but a continent that joins them," (Jenkins, 1994). This quote represents all the core values that I cherish and to which I adhere. Personal culture doesn't have to be linked to a certain country of origin or a specific ethnicity; it can be as simple as a person's core values. The Southern way of life is a culture all in itself. Growing up south of the Mason–Dixon Line in the United States has instilled in me many values including honesty, integrity and a genuine concern for my fellow man. Most...show more content... I think it is because of how different the food is and how many choices are available. I am proud that I have continued this tradition with my children for many reasons, but manly because it opens their minds to new people and cultures. I think this tradition that my mother started was pretty progressive for her time. She never seemed to be restrained by the typical female roles of most women of her time. She somehow managed to remain true to her southern traditions while blending them into a progressive way of thinking. I think I am the same, in that I am trying to teach my daughter respect for others, especially her elders, while making sure her own thoughts are valued as well. My brother, Mike, recently reminded me of another very strong southern value that I too feel passionate about when he said, "Don't ask me for a handout, but I am always willing to give you a hand up." By this is meant, southerners are always willing to help someone better themselves or their situation. If they are hungry, feed them and show them how to feed themselves. If they need a job, teach them the skills needed to find a job–not give them money. To us, throwing money at a situation is not helping. It is demeaning to the receiver and it will most likely encourage the problem. More simply put, if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he will feed himself forever. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. The autobiographical narrative, A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer recounts the harrowing abuse he endured at the hands of a figure that should represent security and comfort–his mother. Between the ages of 4–12 Pelzer suffered mental, physical and emotional torment from his alcoholic mother, ostracizing him from his family. A dwelling that should symbolize a sanctuary for an innocent child instead became an abusive containment facility. In documenting the raw images of his scarred past, Pelzer was able to fabricate a face to an otherwise silent evil. He also represented those who experienced similar situations of anguish and despair. His ordeal embodied the ability of the human spirit to endure to its breaking point, but still...show more content... The internal and external conflict surrounding Pelzer and his mother was primarily around food and Pelzer's ability to acquire some or not. In chapter 4, "The Fight for Food", Pelzer describes his struggle to obtain and retain food. Mother established her sense of daunting authority and supremacy by controlling every morsel of food Pelzer had, many times refusing to feed him in order to justify the cruelty she condoned upon him. "On weekends, to punish me for my thefts, Mother refused to feed me" (p.49). Ironically Pelzer was able to weaken Mother's seemingly stable sense of command through the same outlet. Whenever he was able to outsmart mother, Pelzer implied that he felt a sense of clout and control over his situation. "As I held a piece of frozen pumpkin pie crust or a bit of a taco shell, I was the king, and like a king on his throne, I gazed down on my food and smiled" (p. 79). Pelzer's few victories in "The Fight for Food" foreshadowed his eventual escape from the tightening grasp of his mother, lending credence to his argument of hope during times of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Autobiographical Narratives: No Cats In America 1–My experience reading the autobiographical narratives could not be any more different. First of all, while reading "No Cats in America" I felt that a plethora of people, including me, would find the plot and overall narrative very relatable and interesting. The whole story shows the cold and candid reality every immigrant faces once they reach a new destination. The author gave us a truly deep insight of how he really felt during those difficult times at school and how he was not adjusting very well to the environment around him. He was suffering so much that he went as far as rejecting his own ethnicity and culture. Even if the reader cannot relate to the story, the writer was able to grasp the attention and take us throughout the whole Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Autobiographical Narrative In My Life Autobiographical Narrative An incident that occurred in my life was accepting Jesus into it. This to me was a great achievement, because it made me a better person. Growing up I always went to church on Sundays, it made your momma happy and kept you out of trouble for a few hours. I never payed attention, I just bowed when it was time to pray and stand when it was time to worship. As I was growing older, I had started moving away a little towards going to church and just did me. Was it my best idea, no. But at the time, I thought it was. I always got in trouble church or not. I was always a low–key kind of person. Just did me, and try not to get myself in deeper waters then I am already in. I always kept to myself unless someone wanted to...show more content... I already got money on my head, and came close to my afterlife. Right when I thought things couldn't get worse I had to take in my niece, because her daddy couldn't take care of her. Me and my momma parted ways because of the stress, so I was out on the streets. Life for me couldn't become lower, Romans 8:28 reminds us that "all things work together for good." That's an easy verse to believe when the sun is shining, but it's something else entirely in the darkness of tragedy. I was living with my friend's time to time, but I didn't want to be a burden so I just did me. At my lowest I asked God for his mercy and grace. It wouldn't hurt asking for some help from him, so I did. I started going to church, trying to get right with myself. Gaining knowledge in the Lord, and understanding the word. I reaccepted Christ into my life and started thinking positive about the bad that has happened. Suffering applies a force that either pushes us away from God or pulls us toward him. If we base our faith on the lack of sickness, your faith lives on the edge of extinction and will fall apart easily. It took me at my worst, but God knew that was the best time to show his love. God blesses us not by what we do, but by the attitude we do it with. Even David, a man after God 's own heart, was quite sinful (seduction, murder...) yet God blessed him. Why? Because David always returned to God, asking forgiveness, praising God 's mercy. God knows we are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Descriptive Autobiography It all started when I came back from football practice and was watching T.V. I was 10 at the time, and I stumbled upon a channel where these women modeled these remarkable masterpieces. It peaked my interest in creating similar fashion pieces. I scurried to my room and began drawing. Subsequently, I dashed to show my parents what I created. I expected them to be proud and supportive of me, like they always do, but this time their faces turned from smiles to complete confusion. They gasped and scolded at me. I never understood why they they were so mad. Why would my number one supporters turn against me? I'm Xander. Alexander to be exact. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with both of my parents, my sister Sammy, and my dog Buster. I have bright blue eyes which, in fact, I got from my Dad. My rich dark brown hair I clearly got from my Mom. I have been playing football ever since I could remember. I am currently the captain of Lauderdale High School's football team. This is my last year until I go off to college to major in business. Another thing is when I was a kid I was incredibly creative and deeply attracted to art. Although my Dad always pushed me to play football, ever since I was born, he was a firm believer in doing what you want to do. Plus, I was naturally physically made for the job. Anyways, both of my parents have been very supportive of me, and so has my girlfriend, Zoe. The catch is if I told my family and Zoe that I want to major in arts, they would Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Psychological Autobiography Examples 8,989 miles, that is the distance that separates me from a huge part of who i am. I was born in Zimbabwe, Africa. My dad moved to the USA when i was about four or five to have a chance of the "American Dream." He lived in the states on his own so that we would join him later. Four years later in 2009 the rest of the family joined him. We lived all together in Atlanta Georgia for a year then in 2010 we moved to Newton Kansas and have been here ever since. I have one brother, Lincoln who is seven years older than me. I just turned seventeen this late october. My dad is one of the pastors at Whitestone Mennonite Church. He is still going to school part time and working part time. My mom broke her back a few years back so she couldn't be a CNA anymore. Instead she did what she loved which was open up her clothing store, Moyo Clothing. I always said that coming to America was a curse and a blessing. • 20. Autobiography Of My Childhood In second grade, I finally figured out that something was wrong with me. There always had been, and it was only getting worse. For as long as I had been alive, I was never like other kids. As a baby, I never crawled more than a few inches. But one day, just for fun, my dad stood me up across the room from my mom. "Walk to Mama," he told me. Despite all expectations, I did. I got up and walked to Mama. I didn 't even stumble. It wasn 't that I couldn 't walk, I just hadn 't needed to. My mom carried me everywhere. It was a sign, albeit missed, of what was to come. I had also never spoken, not even baby babble. Many of my parents ' friends took this as proof that I was autistic. My parents, however, refused to believe them. I...show more content... The school tried to discourage my parents from thinking I was gifted, saying things like 'A lot of people think that about their kids,' and 'She's fine where she is.' Fortunately, my parents knew something was up. At Ms. Kafka's urging, my parents got me tested. The results came back positive. I was gifted. Very. The school resumed its rhetoric with even more force. They didn 't want me to leave. I was dragging up their test scores. My parents, however, did want me to leave, as did I. We started looking at schools. Two favorites emerged: Nova Classical Academy and Minnetonka Public Schools's Navigator program. Nova was a public charter school in Saint Paul, much closer to my house in Minneapolis, and was recommended by my IQ test proctor. The Navigator program was, unsurprisingly, in Minnetonka, and my parents had found it on their own. Due to my father's anxieties about me going to a charter, they decided to look more closely at Minnetonka. A little while later, I was pulled from my school to go to a Navigator orientation. As soon as I walked in to the classroom, I felt every pair of eyes on me. I was in the worst situation imaginable–I was the newcomer. I didn 't know anything about this strange new place, half an hour away from my school, my house, and anything and anyone I knew. Worse, in less than a year, these kids could be my classmates. I took a spot at the very back table. There was only one other student there–a blonde girl who quickly introduced herself Get more content on HelpWriting.net
